This is not the typical furniture only created for one space we usually see on this channel. This is an apartment with realistic furniture many people can afford and have easy access to. It shows what you can do to a space that has a good base without stripping it completely. Maybe the nearly renter-friendly version of the other videos on this channel. 😂
I agree. Whilst I love the designs featured on this channel, they rarely feel accessible to those of us who couldn’t afford to pay for an architect/interior designer to design and construct these interiors.
I agree with the OP & @bedbug. They used furniture/ fixtures which can be bought by us "mere mortals", like IKEA upper cabinets for the kitchen, the sofa-bed looks like something from IKEA or similar, same with the bed, dining table & movable kitchen island. I liked how they all put the pieces together to create a warm & inviting space.
Thank you so much The lounge chair in the living room is designed by my husband Jeff as part of his House of Antwi African homeware collection and made in Brooklyn, and the arch chair in bedroom is locally sourced as well. Otherwise the sofa bed is from Article and dining chairs from TJ Maxx - so I would say a balance in artisanal, locally sourced furniture and some of the high street brands. 🧡🛖
@@OyinAntwi You did us bad on the Afro part sis, I was waiting to see the Nigerian engineer with such a rich heritage to come through in an amazing way. The apartment is well designed though
Yes, it does seem odd when the channel features small spaces with custom millwork x]exceeding the cost of just buying a bigger apartment in the first place.
To the @nevertoosmall team, my heart and my home is truly FULL of the love you've shown Me and Jeff over the past months putting together this beautiful video! This home seems so warm, calming, and loved. It also looks very livable, realistic, and not overly renovated/designed. I would not change a thing (except maybe add some plants to the outdoor terrace). I wish pocket doors were a standard feature in American homes. They save so much space. The furniture looks very comfy. I also adore the rounded edges and curves everywhere. They definitely soften the space. Bravo!! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

You hit it on the nail! Exactly our thought process 🧡🛖We more 'reconfigured' our condo with these renovations and design rather that structurally changed it because we want to rent it out with ease when we move to our next home.
As a lifelong resident of Brooklyn, I was excited to see an NTS filmed in my hometown! I know the layout of this kind of brownstone apartment well…and am really impressed by the homey feel Oyin and her husband have achieved.
Awww thank you so much! You KNOW it’s mixed feelings to not be able to afford a brownstone here, but thankful to be able to buy a piece of the block and bring character back into it 🙏🏾🫶🏾🛖
The classic colour palette: 'Creamy White - Light Brown - Gray' ~ You cannot go wrong with this one 👌 And the rooftop, it's the cherry of the pie, love it!! ❤
I absolutely LOVE to see designs done by the homeowner - they turn out to be such cozy, warm, livable spaces. Also, one of my hobbies is grading NTS spaces on a points system. Having a bathroom door gives you mega points. I am only a few seconds in, but I can guarantee their bathroom has a door.💕

The earth tones truly make the space a warm and serene place to be in. I really love the African stool in the corner of the living room with the flowers on top - what a solid piece of heritage to keep in your home! The only feedback I have is the Japanese coffee table. For this space, I think an end table on each side of the couch makes more sense in terms of flow and usability. The coffee table items can be redistributed to the couch end tables and the console shelf.

Very nice. Somehow failed to understand which part is the Afro style. But pleased to see that there are no wooden masks and leopard patterns. Terrazzo is in perfect colour. Love it.
Thank you dear - the idea that African home design is regarded as only maximalist, colorful art etc, when actually, being from Ghana and Nigeria, we very well know the serene side of our homeland when it comes to home design. In fact Jeff designed much of the furniture. I speak on this in detail in my TH-cam series - check it out if you're interested Xx
Very, very tasteful with great use of neutral colors and texture for a calm and inviting space. The slam dunk is that roof top patio - wow! My only struggle for two people was the bedroom closet space, but I don't see a solution for that. It's called minimalism for a reason. Love it, such a great job.
Haha! Thank you so much - and yes the extra outdoor space was a big negotiation for us when we were purchasing this condo and we're so grateful we fought for it! 🧡🛖 And LOL - is my Ikea 'hers' closet build out and the corner 'his' built in closet for him not enough? hahaha
Very cozy. Perfect for a couple in the city, especially with the added rooftop space for entertaining. If it were mine, I would remove the work desk in the bedroom and work from the dining-room or kitchen table just to keep work out of my mind when I am trying to get to sleep. Again, as NTS usually does, the lights are _described_ as 'warm,' but we don't get to see them lit, which I understand is probably an issue when filming, but I think in some cases would help flesh out the spaces shown and how they look at night.
This is lovely! Beautifully thought out and well put together. Everything that's good about small-space living is right here! I love the light, airy feel, lack of clutter and good proportions.

this is soo peaceful. Like it is not pretending to be what it is not. Like a lot of tiny house owners try to make it look more open than it is not, and for that they have to cut corners here and there. This, however you can tell that yes it IS small. There is not a lot of floor room, however this house does not bothers me with that at all like most others would. Everything is so soft either to see or to touch. So even with less room to walk around, this does not feel cluttered or overwhelming.
Our goal! A welcoming, unpretentious, but quality designed space that pays an ode to artisanal design. Something that hugs you after a bustling day in the city 🧡🛖 thank you dear xx
I love the way they designed this place, but yeah I agree with you. The woods and the light fixtures and maybe the terracotta, other than that I don't really see much of a African vibe. Even the wood, African woods are hard and dark and these woods are more bright, which work very well for a small space. There's more Japanese-Scandinavian, but even still, not enough to title it Afro-Japandi.
The furniture style is definitely Japandi. Though normally it involves more muted colors, or if there is brighter color it involves cooler colors, hence the description of Afro-Japandi. To me at least, it makes perfect sense, and it's a great fusion of styles.
Beautiful apartment! I love the addition of wood panels to add warmth and help reduce echos. I agree with other commentators that this is ‘rental-friendly’ inspiration. Lots of ideas that wouldn’t require major renovation.

And we're proud to have squeezed a very functional flow of entranceway, converted coat and storage closet, kitchen island, living area, dining area, bedroom, corner office area, and his& hers closet in 640 sqft + terrace LOL We find it quite optimized for us. That's the beauty of designing for your own lifestyle 🧡🛖
@@ruhtraeely’all just like to whine about something. My flat is nowhere near as beautiful as the ones shown on this channel, but it’s nice and it is always spotless clean and organized. Something you would probably call “cleaned up to the point it looks like no one lives there”. I do live here am just not a bum. Everyone isn’t a bum.
Interesting design. Finally working space by the window and not in the darkest corner. I would change light bulbs into round or long glass Edison style bulbs. That would make those light fixtures more mushroom-like, more home feeling.
Such a warm space - I really love all the choices that went into making it feel so comfortable as well as sleek. I am not at all good at this sort of elegant minimalism, but I do crave the warmth so that was lovely to see! I also love the double wardrobe ❤
Thank you dear 🧡 And I think over the years growing up in major cities (Me first in Lagos, Nigeria then London, UK and Jeff here in NYC) there’s kind of this two paths you take: complete hoarding and chaos from acquiring all the knick knacks you can score locally from living in such density and having access to everything at your fingertips 😅, or you forcibly become a minimalist, or what I like to call “intentional use of your resources” so you can live a bit more intentionally, sustainably, and stylishly in the choices of items you buy and keep at home. I’m blessed to have met a partner with a similar mindset 😌🙏🏾
@@OyinAntwi Such a list of cities! I completely understand the need to keep things to a level where what you have is what you need. I am just so used to seeing minimalism that is cold or cool, even with woods. Your place is much more inspirational because I love warmth, and I think what struck me is that you do have things where it is important. For example in your kitchen cupboard use - so many! Lovely things kept, but not intruding. I hope you and your partner continue to be happy and like minded. ❤️
640 sq feet is a penthouse by the Never too Small channel standards. haha I LOVE this space! I think it is a design style that appeals to a lot of people and is relatable and achievable.
Hahaha! Thank you for making us feel better about what we can afford to purchase as millennials living in NYC 🧡🛖 And I agree, as someone who grew up in London as a child, 640 sqft is acctually quite big to me - I would've made it a 2 bedroom if I was the original builders, but the best we could do was reconfigure it.
The ochra, mustard colour touch reminds me of Africa indeed, with all that sand and obviously the tree looks very tropical, hard to have such a healthy looking plant in the UK, unless you keep your heating on full blast all the time.
Seriously, dude. Were you thinking there ought to be animal prints and vibrant colours all over? There are many different styles of "Afro" as there are different countries and distinct peoples with their own customs and language in Africa. North Africa is as different from Southern African nations as night and day. 😄
There is something wrong with the dimensions of this apartment. It looks like they included the terrace dimensions here, the apartment itself is no more than 40 square meters.
So beautiful! Loved the way space was divided and functional, soothing choice of colours and materials, really gorgeous! The use of curves as repeating feature really adds to the sense of tranquility as does the natural light. I'm realising how much clutter adds to the subtle sense of chaos in my home! 😂
Really nice space, especially the main living / dining area. Genius to use the bat window for the table. Excellent use of warm wood in the feature wall and as accents in furniture. The warm and earthy colours and the natural looking fabrics would be what I would link to a West African inspired approach-with the clean lines of Japanese design and the appeal to light and white of Scandinavian. This design found the point where those 3 influences can successfully converge.
I still can’t get over that Bedford-Stuyvesant is a nice neighborhood these days. When I was in my late teens and early twenties it was not too unusual to hear gunshots at night. I’m very glad people are making it a wonderful neighborhood to live in and this is a terrific example of that (as mind-bending as it is for me).
So my husband Jeff was born here in BedStuy and raised in NYC and he talks my ear off about this 😅 I do the same about Peckham in London - like man, these neighborhoods have changed!! But now living in Brooklyn for the last 13 years myself since Grad School, I realize it boils down to the block associations and local governments that ‘change’ the neighborhoods. Even in my 13 years here (let alone you, who remember it from teenagehood) I am incredibly proud to see the positive safety, urban planning, and community engagement initiatives that come from joining your block association. I am a proud member of mine and always promote it, especially if you’re buying in Brooklyn 🙏🏾🧡
I learned about it in the early 80s listening to Billy Joel's "You May Be Right." ("I walked through Bedford-Stuy alone...You may be right... I may be crazy.")
This house goes to show not a lot of change is required to make it more functional. And definitely a small home where you can sit, sleep and enjoy comfortably :D
Since the space is small and there is already a dining table, there is no need for a coffee table. There would be more space to move around if the coffee table wasn't there. I love the apartment. Good job making it a home.
This is just a Japandi inspired pad. You can easily blend Afro and Japandi with importing furniture from African artisans. It would also make the place feel a little more expensive. The roof top is magical though - such a dream to have in NYC
Beautiful apartment - I love the curved section dividing the kitchen from the living area and also the full sized couch, which can easily fit three people. Personally, for me I would definitely add plants - both in the apartment and on the rooftop terrace. However, I appreciate that looking after plants is not everyone`s cup of tea!
Thank you dear! The dropped arch ceiling was something I’ve always wanted to do to divide these open space layouts NYC tends to have for apartments and it was finally my chance to invest in it for our condo. We want to rent this place out in the future and I think anyone would appreciate the added character! Also more plants have been added (slowly lol) to our terrace and space. Checkout my TH-cam episodes 😌🌿🧡🛖
I'd hang the mirror that is leaning against the wall in the bedroom and add plants in big pots in your rooftop lounge area. Other than that, great job!!
This is exquisite and creative.Nice colours, and finish touch, the arch and everything. The feeling is indeed cosy and warm. However the African touch is not easy to detect, besides the earth colors maybe.More of a Japan style than African one and it is okay.
The comment was not passive at all. For me it is one of the worst NTS videos. There is no African influence nor Japanese… just bad taste that will be outdated in 2 years.
@@zackadesina that's just what I felt like saying the first time I saw the video. Sorry if anyone felt offended. I'm used to seeing custom made pieces to fit small homes in creative ways, and this is a trendy one bedroom. I'm just not inspired by this one 🤷🏻♂️
@@misterosc You know, custom-made pieces are fairly expensive. They could have a certain budget in mind and so long as they got what they wanted and were happy with it, I think that is all that matters.
@OyinAntwi , I'm familiar with Bed Stuy, so it heartens my heart to see Brownstone renovations. Truly one of the treasures of Brooklyn. As an old Prattie (designer), you and your partner did a great job. Good luck to you both.
@@rolandcharriez7631 yes! Mixed feelings and my husband I talk about this often - growing up in London and now living Brooklyn, there’s this dichotomy of feelings I have where I’ve seen these traditionally working class and oftentimes historically black and brown neighborhoods with beautiful brownstones, limestones, and row homes being affordable now only to the super wealthy and oftentimes white homebuyers. As you know, these row homes in Bed Stuy now go for upwards of $2million and may STILL need renos, and only they really are able to afford the restoration of the original architecture and design. While the supply and demand issue for the working class is leading to developers converting one row home to a 4-6unit condo building where we now can only afford a piece of the pie and do our best with it to add character and design. So thank you for knowing this is worth recognizing how we can still bring beautiful designs even in these smaller footprints of what was 🧡🛖

Although the pocket door change for the bedroom was very smart
I think it might be because they cleaned it up to the point of not looking lived in
@@ruhtraeely’all just like to whine about something. My flat is nowhere near as beautiful as the ones shown on this channel, but it’s nice and it is always spotless clean and organized. Something you would probably call “cleaned up to the point it looks like no one lives there”. I do live here am just not a bum. Everyone isn’t a bum.
@@juancarlosgallegos3902I was just about to say that but you beat me to it. So clever!
Beautiful design. Calming and serene. Kudos to this lovely couple!
Interesting design. Finally working space by the window and not in the darkest corner. I would change light bulbs into round or long glass Edison style bulbs. That would make those light fixtures more mushroom-like, more home feeling.
was thinking the same! Maybe they will after reading this :-)
Thank you for the suggestion! Our home is constantly evolving and will definitely try this out 🧡🛖
they look like bedpans to me lol
Bravo! Extremely well done!! I want an Afro-Japandii home now!!! ❤
I love how everything in this appartment has been thought to be beautiful AND practical. Well done.
so beautiful. this place seems so nice to live
Literally sitting by the bay windows watching this episode and replying to you all like I don’t live here 😂😂😂 thank you dear 🧡🫶🏾
I love this. As a Jamaican that have lived in Sweden and enjoy Japanese culture, I'd love this concept in my new apartment.
I love everything about this condo! Amazing job with the design and use of the small space.
640 sq feet is a penthouse by the Never too Small channel standards. haha
I LOVE this space!
@@OyinAntwibut you were able to make the sofa a sofa bed to provide a sleeping spot for visitors. ❤
@@michelestapleton yes, and with the cost of nyc hotels, family are friends are QUICK to book the Antwi home sofa bed 😂🙏🏾
Beautiful style. I do love the colour concept that exhales peace, lightness and serenity.
A rooftop deck in NYC!! lottery!!
It’s clever usage of the available room. I love the bedroom
Didn’t really pick up the “Afro” bit of “Afro-Japandi”, feels more just Japandi but it’s a nice space
Unless she considers herself to be a furniture piece
@@jjandorliadul That too :D 🧡🛖
The ochra, mustard colour touch reminds me of Africa indeed, with all that sand and obviously the tree looks very tropical, hard to have such a healthy looking plant in the UK, unless you keep your heating on full blast all the time.
Seriously, dude. Were you thinking there ought to be animal prints and vibrant colours all over? There are many different styles of "Afro" as there are different countries and distinct peoples with their own customs and language in Africa. North Africa is as different from Southern African nations as night and day. 😄
how do you define "Afro" bit? or you are just ignorant?
Seems like a warm, peaceful space. Well done from one brooklynite to another
Love this designer and this space!
Love this one! Beautifully done and so well presented. Oyin Antwi - you should have your own TH-cam channel - you're a natural on camera.
Gorgeous and welcoming home. Well done!
There is something wrong with the dimensions of this apartment. It looks like they included the terrace dimensions here, the apartment itself is no more than 40 square meters.
Agree.. everything looks too small. For 50 sqm, I expect 2 bedroom or 1 bedroom with spacious living space.
I love this unit, the color scheme and furniture were all well-thought off. Great design!
I love this! And I would say it doesn't look like NYC at all... They are really authentic ❤
So beautiful! Loved the way space was divided and functional, soothing choice of colours and materials, really gorgeous! The use of curves as repeating feature really adds to the sense of tranquility as does the natural light. I'm realising how much clutter adds to the subtle sense of chaos in my home! 😂
Thank you for noticing the details!! Really warms my heart 🧡🛖
Such a lovely space. Every detail is perfection. 💗
BEAUTIFUL HOME!!! 💖✨
This house goes to show not a lot of change is required to make it more functional. And definitely a small home where you can sit, sleep and enjoy comfortably :D
Exactlyyyy 😌 Creating a ‘home’ has less to do with size and more to do with intention 🧡🛖
Love your home.! So pleasant and welcoming ! Not cluttered at all ! Beautiful neighborhood you are blessed enjoy your home
They've made their home a beautiful, relaxing place to live. I live alone, in 600 sq ft home and find it perfect for me, too.
Since the space is small and there is already a dining table, there is no need for a coffee table.
There would be more space to move around if the coffee table wasn't there.
I love the apartment.
Good job making it a home.
so many clever details! very stunning design
Itd be great to see more of these videos which are about houses people actually live in, designed in a practical, but gorgeous way
Lovely design. Serene, functional and cozy. Bravo! :)
This is just a Japandi inspired pad. You can easily blend Afro and Japandi with importing furniture from African artisans. It would also make the place feel a little more expensive. The roof top is magical though - such a dream to have in NYC
My husband designed the furniture and he's African :) Checkout House of Antwi
Another inspiring place i watched thanks to never too small❤
Beautiful my friend!🥰
Beautiful! We been saying so many times during the video wow and so pretty! So realistic and greatly presented too! Congratulations 🎉
Thank you @OyinAntwi. I’m sure your place is even more gorgeous with plants!
I think this is my favorite one. And yay for Brooklyn!
This is really beautiful!
I love that home! 🧡 Great design, colors, layout! 😊❤❤❤
Beautiful design 👏
Wow! Love this so much. 😍
I'd hang the mirror that is leaning against the wall in the bedroom and add plants in big pots in your rooftop lounge area. Other than that, great job!!
This is gorgeous and so calming. Thanks for sharing your space ❤
Thank you so much dear 🧡
This is exquisite and creative.Nice colours, and finish touch, the arch and everything. The feeling is indeed cosy and warm. However the African touch is not easy to detect, besides the earth colors maybe.More of a Japan style than African one and it is okay.
Is the Afro-Japandi style in the room with us?
It doesn't look bad but honestly 95% of your decor can be found in H&M home
What is the point of your passive-aggressive comment? I presume it is just that - to be passive-aggressive.
The comment was not passive at all. For me it is one of the worst NTS videos. There is no African influence nor Japanese… just bad taste that will be outdated in 2 years.
@@Sanchez.rr00 Yes, you are right - it was not passive at all. It was simply aggressive, as is your comment.
Such a beautiful home.
This is amazing. I love every inch of this.
Lovely space! Congratulations!
Thank you dear 🧡🛖 NYC purchasing, renovations, and living is no easy stretch but so thankFULL we pushed through for a piece of the pie
Beautiful, so tranquil :)
A beautiful episode ❤❤❤
Great job! thanks for sharing! May you have many happy years living in Brooklyn!
Beautifully done ❤
Love Oyin and Via Asha Design!
Sweet!! Beautifully done.
Thank you so much 🥹🧡🛖
@OyinAntwi , I'm familiar with Bed Stuy, so it heartens my heart to see Brownstone renovations.
So thank you for knowing this is worth recognizing how we can still bring beautiful designs even in these smaller footprints of what was 🧡🛖
Beautiful great Job love it ❤❤❤❤
This is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND INSPIRING!!!!!!
Beautiful space with comfy colores, love it
It's refreshing to see people of color on never too small
There’s Asians ALL THE TIME on never too small. Just say black people next time 🤡
