    The issue with intel chips in laptops for me isn't their performance as much as their wattage. Especially the higher ones draw quite a lot of power for their performance, draining your battery unless you undervolt them (which kinda defeats the purpose of getting a higher end chip). This is why I prefer the mid-tier Ryzen or indeed a dedicated ARM chip over Intel for laptops these days.

    • @e21big
      @e21big 4 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      undervolting wouldn't hurt your performance actually, the whole concept of undervolting is to find the spot where undervolt is stable and doesn't hurt your performance

    • @gotyaloot2125
      @gotyaloot2125 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      1 undervolt does not hurt performance 2 when you do some heavy work load stuff like gaming or video editing, you should always use charger, if you are using battery the machine will not run at full power

    • @HardwareCanucks
      @HardwareCanucks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Well there's a reason wattage is an issue. They needed to push their manufacturing process REALLY far to achieve higher clock speeds and remain competitive. AMD had to do the same thing with endless 32nm refreshes back in the day.

    3:40 I'd definitely prefer having the Numpad
    4:23 why would I take note of how accurate the colors are, I wouldn't see it anyway because it's on the back of the display. It's very nice of you to notice these details, though.
    8:50 I think that RAID0 is very reasonable when SSDs can write hundreds of Terabytes before failing
    Also, it would be really nice to have a Ryzen option as it would benefit greatly from the great cooling design of this laptop

    • @ambilijohn6846
      @ambilijohn6846 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But if you want more performance, buy intel as they have rtx 2080 and according to my research, adding a high end gpu increases the performance by more than 200% whereas a cpu upgrade doesnot and also remember that now more and more performance applications utilize gpu for much more performance...

    • @YAAMW
      @YAAMW 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ambilijohn6846 Ryzen 4000 is now faster than Intel at a MUCH cheaper price. The only problem is that NO ONE thought Ryzen would succeed like that and that means that Ryzen's laptop designs aren't as mature because properly designing a laptop costs A LOT of money. Intel basically has a miniscule lead that will only benefit tbe pro gamers. For us mere mortals though 144 is indistinguishable from 160. As games begin to utilize more cores with the new console generation, Intel'sead will erode even further

    I have some questions.
    1. Is the lid metal or plastic?
    2. Can you open the lid with 1 hand or finger?
    3. What is the weight of the laptop with and without the power brick? Is it too heavy?
    4. Can the usb c can be used for charging?
    To answer your question about number pad. Yes it is very useful.
    Even if you are not an accountant, using the numpad for shortcuts (alt + numbers) could come in handy sometimes. Typing numbers using the number pad is also faster. This just my opinion and my preference could differ from you.

There’s an option in the laptop to disable it, and you can still manage the lighting. If you uninstall the software you lose the ability to configure the lights.

    I know it's been a couple of months since this video came out, but as for the numpad -- it's essential for me. It's not just for accounting (which I never did, at least not professionally), but practically every time when I need to enter numbers. I could live if the numrow were removed, but not the numpad. The only time I'm willing to even only consider a laptop without numpad is when it's physically too small to support one, i.e. smaller than 15".

    Great review guys. I love the legion and have got the 7i with the RTX 2060 after seeing your review. I recently noticed a electrical noise more like a coil whine noise from the PC. It is not audible when you use it but when you are in a very quite room and you put your ears closer to the keyboard, you hear this noise. Is it common to have this noise. I suspect it is the GPU but this sound is there even during a non-gaming use.

    Love your videos man. I was going to buy a ROG Strix G15 with an RTX 2060, Gen 10 I7 but I dragged my feet on the deal (Bank Holiday) and the deal has now gone. However it is a lot of money to pay out and I want it to be right and last at least 5 years. I have come across a Legion 7i with Gen 10 i7 and RTX 2060, for £100 more than the ROG I was looking at, but your video has convinced me to pull the trigger and buy it :) I have read the Legion 7i is an all round better machine than the ROG (cooling, display, keyboard) so, I think the extra £100 is worth it. Yes I can finally play MS Flight Sim 2020 :)
