    Last year I thought I lost my keys to my Scion TC and had a new key made by a locksmith. After finding my old key a week later, I was carrying two keys (one to lock/unlock the car remotely, one to start it). With the help of your video, I was able to program my old key to my car again so now I only need my one original key! Thanks a ton for creating this video!

    I cut the spare key for like 5 bucks at the Locksmith, followed the steps perfectly, worked without flaw for my 2010 4dr toyota yaris. Great stuff! Saved me hundreds

    Thank you so much the procedure worked very well. I used both videos to program my new key. but ACE wanted $176 to cut the blank key. I end up paying $80 to cut the key.

    When I inherited my deceased dads car he had a plain metal key that would fit locks but wouldn't start the car (immobiliser). He had the key-remote with buttons that unlocked doors but had a broken blade, and a concierge key with no buttons that started the car but made me think the boot lock was broken for the longest time. For 6 years I've used a plain metal key, but I have to first hold the door remote (with the snapped off blade) up to the ignition barrel after insertion to disable the immobiliser. I've been meaning to buy a new blank master key and transplant the electronics from the broken one. But I'd still only have one proper key. Inspired by this video I've found a similar procedure for my Corolla - now to see if there's a similar key for sale :-) Will be nice piece of mind having two keys. Thanks for sharing.

    thank you, thank you, thank you... I was able to program the key right away. I am gonna have it cut probably this next saturday (1/30/21) but I am gonna go to a locksmith. I don't know if I would trust home depot to do it for me. I will let you know how the locking/unlocking programming works after that. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you...!
    I did purchase my key using amazon and it costed me $31.08 and it got delivered in 2 days...! My buddy told me he paid around $90.00 to go to a locksmith and have them find the right key and programmed it for him. (different vehicle though) by the way I owned a scion Tc 2007

    That is price gouging on a whole other level. I'm aware some 3rd party keys use sub-standard metal that bend or twist easily, but come on, even the real deal shouldn't be anywhere near $200. And then trying to charge you to program it on top is utter greed. I don't begrudge a dealership workshop wanting to be profitable, but this is the reason people call them the stealership. In the past they've gotten away with this monopolistic price gouging.

    • @chocolate_squiggle
      @chocolate_squiggle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      TL;DR ---> It sounds like you have a 'concierge' key and not a master key.
      Long version: I have a NZ 2002 Corolla (always referred to as 2003-2008 in the US for some reason) - the master key with the door buttons does everything - ignition, doors, and rear boot (trunk). But I have a second key like you describe, grey not black, no buttons at all. It's a rather large, permanently moulded one-piece grip around a metal blade. It has the proximity electrics inside that disables the immobiliser and allows the car to start, and the blade will manually open the drivers door too. But it will NOT unlock the rear boot. The owners manual refers to this as the 'concierge' key. It's a bit dumb because there is a boot opening latch in the drivers footwell that any concierge could use anyway - I don't know what they were thinking.
      But my point is that this key, which I think you have, does not have any buttons for keyless entry, and does not take any battery to operate the transmitter that would be required for keyless entry. So I don't think it's a master key capable of being used for programming other keys for keyless entry, and that's likely your problem. I don't have a Scion or I'd try enter programming mode with both types keys for you.
      Check your owners manual, or try to look one up online for your exact car - mine has a whole section on keys. And believe me I needed it :-)

    • @thekeyman2372
      @thekeyman2372 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@chocolate_squiggle I finally solved my issue. I had a valet key. Also, the previous owner had lost so many sets of keys the immobilizer wouldn’t allow any more to be programmed. So I had to erase immobilizer (all keys lost) and start fresh.
      However this is best thing that could have happened. It has gotten me into automotive locksmithing and in process of starting a business! So thanks lady who can’t keep up with her keys lol

    People please don’t be fooled that a 14.00 key will always work as well as factory part. I’m not saying it can’t work but we deal with so many aftermarket key issues that we gave up on them. For a professional shop to say this is a normal way of doing things is just plain wrong. And if you do enough volume it will bite you in the rear. Just read the reviews on amazon and you will see all the stories...

    • @jeff5279
      @jeff5279 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Those several hundred dollar keys that the dealer sell you are less than $20 in materials. Dealer's are THIEVES so telling me that I have to, enter that den of thieves and, take out a second mortgage on my house to buy a replacement for the key the tow-truck driver lost is unconscionable. Btw, you can call Toyota and get a customer service technician to walk you thru this very procedure. This shop owner didn't just pull this procedure out of his ass. I'll trust this guy any day before I'll trust a new or used car dealer. Oh, and regarding reviews on Amazon here's just one of my Amazon review stories. My wife bought me a smoker off of Amazon. Nice unit, well made. I read every single review of that smoker. One guy from New York complained vehemently about how he had to use some sort of high temperature seal to keep the smoke from leaking out. For the record, if the smoke doesn't escape it will displace all of the oxygen inside the grill/smoker/firebox and choke out your fire. You can't cook without heat so choking out your fire will leave you with raw meat. My point, and his isn't the only absurd review that I have read on Amazon, is that there are a lot of peope who buy from Amazon. It seems that more than a few of them are dumbasses who follow their purchase up with reviews that shine an embarassing light on their own stupidity. So, Amazon reviews isn't always a good barometer of the quality of a product. As always, do your own research and make an informed decision.
