I hope you all enjoyed this different style of video! I probably won't do it again because it was a lot of work to make a (kinda) coherent story to go along normal gameplay. I'm hoping to go back to some more challenging challenge runs and/or softlocks in the near future that focus more on the skipping/technical side of Hollow Knight. I might also take a little break from youtube, the last couple of videos took a lot of time and energy and I think I need a little break from all that :D

Ie. A steel soul death(that deletes da save)
Actually, if a screen was loading for too long after dying to a boss while having any help whatsoever, (grimmchild, defenders crest, dreamshield, weaversong and glowing womb i think) the boss will continue taking damage, possibly die in some cases
To avoid saying 'Radience:' at the front of all subtitles, you can assign a different color/font representing each pov to make it easier to stand out without directly telling us who is saying what

If it wasn't for the bouncy mushrooms, I would have never learned that I can downslash and would have completed Hollow Knight without pogoing.

If you think about any videogame challenge run from a in world perspective, it becomes so much more amusing. A character surmounting what most would call invincible foes and impassable obstacles. Mastering movement, magic and combat, defeating Gods and Demons, Saving their village, their kingdom, their world, while handicapping themselves just to make things interesting.
this is why you dont mess with moths, if they can buy a thousand dollar lamp they can buy a 10 dollar pipebomb directly to your shell
what about if they have 1009 dollars
The part with the purple mushrooms was so funny. I've never imagined so many people got stuck there, it honestly blows my mind.
I really wish i could experience that level of true blind first hollow knight playthrough, not knowing how to pogo must be wild
this story far exceeds those of Shakespeare, William Golding, and Ray Bradbury
Great video! I can see why it took so long to make, with the radiance narrating. I understand if you don't want to do this style again, but it was fun as a one-off!
appreciate it! it was difficult coming up with a coherent story while also keeping the main focus on the actual challenge run aspect of the video. if i feel this style of video fits well with a different video idea, i may do it again :D

its honestly hilarious reading all the threads on bouncy mushrooms. they’re always worded so ironically and it makes me wonder if its some sort of inside joke im not aware of
To be fair it took me an hour to remember I could even pogo so I spent an hour figuring out how to get past them lmao (I hadnt played anything even half at challenging as hk at that point)
I was one of the people who didn't know you could pogo. I assumed it was some kind of ability like Dive or Cloak that I would unlock later. Some downward attack. So instead I got the Lantern, Dream Nail, and scouted everything on the part of the map available to me. I don't remember how I learned about pogoing, maybe friends told me, maybe I looked it up.
These mushrooms made me realize I can use nail in any direction, not just right/left. I just never tried it before. And I can tell that vengefly king with only sideslash was kinda hard. There should be some note about it in king's pass tutorial imo
I remember discovering pogoing with that spiky shell dude over acid guarding the way to fog canyon. I thought I was the shit lmao

As one of the folks who had to look up how to progress because they didnt know about pogoing the mushrooms, that section hit hard
I like the fact that's the Radiance who tell the story
funny story, when I got hollow knight, I hadn't seen any playthroughs or anything about the game other than the steam page since it was relatively new. I actually didn't know that pogos were a thing. I only swung my nail left and right for as long as I could until I was stuck at the pogo mushrooms in fungal core. I tried for so long to bounce off them just by jumping to no avail. I'm curious how people are supposed to find out about pogos if not from watching other people do it or accidentally doing it...
At that point you had wings so I don’t know how you got stuck there and no bench so save and quit

I realized I could upslash in king's pass and then it was just a matter of reasoning that if i could attack in 3 cardinal direction, i could probably slash in the fourth. Then again, I'm a veteran to metroid and you can attack in 8 directions for most of those games

I would not count it, that was only a downward nail hit not a pogo.
What makes it a pogo is the bounce, hence the term pogo

I do like the story though.
Anyone can do a speedrun but how many can make a story of it; that still meshes with the HK lore.
The White Palace looks almost easier without pogoing.

radiance can be killed with any nail related attacks, narts included
wp definitely isnt easier with pogoing, some of the skips i normally do literally aren’t possible without pogos

I've played this game since the days Hidden Dreams was the only released content pack and I still think they should have included some sort of clear indication you can attack vertically.
The problem for me wasn't knowing I can pogo. The problem was knowing I can attack in any direction other than left and right. Once I figured that out by looking it up, knowing I can pogo was an instant natural realization.
To be fair, it seems like they tried having a pogo tutorial in that little area after False Knight with the Snail Shaman (I keep forgetting its name) by making you attack platforms right below you, but problem it, horizontal slashes take care of them just fine, so they failed at teaching me and countless other people.
That being said, watching this video actually made me want to attempt this myself, but without upward attacks as well, just like the dumb me from 5 years ago played :)
There's another room in forgotten crossroads with a grub after pooing platforms with spikes on them, although it's 0ptional

In my casual playthrough I didn't know that the pogo existed so I didn't use it until the mushrooms in fungal wastes. I searched for hours and got so stumped until I accidentaly did it

The dreamers slept to lock the black egg to lock the hollow knight in which the Pale king planned to contain the Radiance so when the Little Ghost is killing the dreamers he's actually helping Radiance to escape the black egg even more.

This is one of the easiest i think because all the level design is built seeing pogo as a secret mechanic until Path of Pain. So the pogo is always a gear to make everyhing easier but never required
thats why i had to mix up this challenge with something more interesting, hence the radiance narration

I appreciate this challenge because when I first played, I had NO IDEA you could pogo! Gravity doesn't usually work like that, y'know? Got Roadblocked by the frickin' Moss knight and didn't play again for years DX Thank heavens for watching other people (who actually know what they're doing!) play on youtube!

I recently started my first playthrough, and I made it to Fungal Wastes without a single pogo. I HEARD pogo is a big thing in this game, but just didn't know how to do it until I read a Reddit post.
