    I have a half sovereign which I found metal detecting,1859 Queen Victoria. Much more exciting finding rather than buying. I expect that there are quite a few out there which do not get sold.

    when you jingled them in your hand, it reminded me of myself doing the same. I have a handful of circulated sovs and halfs that I dont mind jingling in my hand for fun. I have the most expensive fidget toy around. I love that old scale. I have one that the two trays hang on chains like a see saw.

    Nice little stack there! I really like halfs and I collect them.
    People should stack half's especially if they can get them at a very low premium because if gold goes up, people with smaller budgets will go for the smaller more affordable coins.
    Tip for newbies: most victoria's can weigh 3,9gr because of the wear..
    Nice video once again!

    Thank you for your video. Regarding 7:53, the reverse side of the 2012 Sovereign does feature George and the Dragon. However, it is not Benedetto Pistrucci's classic design of Saint George slaying the Dragon. For those who are unfamiliar, it is instead Paul Day's modern redesign of Saint George slaying the Dragon.

    @Sovereign Saurus, I have bought a batch of Full Sovereign and I found 6 pieces which the diameter is a bit off, however the weight and the ping test are ok. The sizes are as follow:
    - 1894: 22.15 mm - 22.18 mm
    - 1912: 21.90 mm - 21.94 mm
    - 1912: 21.95 mm - 22.01 mm
    - 1914: 21.90 mm - 21.94 mm
    - 1926: 21.80 mm - 21.90 mm
    - 1929: 22.15 mm - 22.23 mm
    Do you to think those diameters are within the allowed tolerance? Thanks in advance for your help.

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for dropping in. I haven't much silver but if you search back a little there's the 1000 oz video with most of my silver stack. Recently I've not bought much silver, the VAT and high premiums kill it for me in the UK when gold is easy to buy at

    • @captainflint5614
      @captainflint5614 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SovereignSaurus thanks a lot sir for your reply. Yes the VAT and all the extra premium are extremly high but people is still purchasing silver because of the gold silver ratio. What's your opinion about that?

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@captainflint5614 The paper gold to silver ratio doesn't mean a great deal to me because I can't actually buy at those prices in the UK. People are selling around the £23 an oz range with shipping on the 2nd hand market some slightly below but not seen Brits going for much less. Gold ar £1500 delivered easily enough recently so about 65 to 1 ratio. Silver looks cheap at £15 an oz or about $18 though I'd be happy to take a sizable stack at that price

  • @KyleInTheShower
    @KyleInTheShower ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm new to coins, but can someone explain why half sovereigns are not half the cost of a sovereign? I might be thinking too hard, but wouldn't a sovereign be a better buy at the price of less than double the half ones?

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, basically the smaller pieces have higher premiums.... Not only do you have the cost of the gold in a coin but it has to be manufactured which takes a similar amount of work. For the dealers themselves they have fixed costs which would be the same on each coin, if they are paying staff it takes the same time to package a half sov as it does a 1 Oz coin for eg.
      It is better to buy a full sovereign than 2 halves usually if that is what your budget allows
