They should’ve called it something else… Black AF was not a good title for that show. It represented a niche section of the Black Community… Should’ve been called Kinda Black… I think ppl were not happy with it because it felt like yet another leeching off of black culture without even understanding it and yes, I understand the irony in that.
Why should it be called kinda black? Kenya is a black man his wife is half black they have all black children just because they lightskin it can't be called black af? So if they were dark-skinned it would of been better?
The show was not funny. Had no replay value. Most people didn’t notice when it never came back. The name is off-putting. There was nothing “black af” about it. The kids weren’t funny. I don’t even remember who was funny on that show. Shows like this make the black experience seem so superficial and insignificant. It should never be that way.
Nah, we should be able to do all types of shows. Every black show shouldn’t be responsible for the progression of the entire African American community. Let’s relax on that

Let mixed race people have their identities instead of using their optics to 'lighten up' black family shows to make them palatable to white audiences whilst doing away with the reflected images that black people could do with right now.
Hate that unc got to this point in his thought process. I feel sitcom consumers really let Mr. Barris down. The meta-commentary on himself and the genre was excellent. Blackaf a multilayered subversion of expectation that requires black people to evaluate the tv families that resonate with them. It addressed critics of the redundancy exhibited in Barris’s material directly, and was capped off by a harrowing speech by Tyler Perry about serving the community that feeds you. It also combatted the idea that black people are a monolith that even black people perpetuate. Blackaf demonstrated that the black experience is experienced black people, not a certain type of black people. My hopes are that the show receives a revival of sorts or at least becomes a cult classic for creatives. For me, the show deserves so much praise for masterfully weaving conversations meant for the black people, non-black consumers of black entertainment, and the industry as a whole into a genuinely entertaining first season. Before Blackaf, I casually semi-enjoyed the work of Barris at best. Now, this show will always be a work that I go to bat for against criticism.
I like the family reunion episode and the one when they tried to buy drugs..I think it was just that the kids were not funny like on Blackish and were just picked cause they looked the part
The show was dope ah i still watch it for laughs it was like curb your enthusiasm but what hurt the show is that the dynamic was exactly like blackish just rated r which was dope but in some ways ppl just looked at it as blackish, I dont get why people expect him to cast a dark skin womne to play his wife when his wife is mixed just because the family is mixed or lights kin doesn't mean they can't be black af

BlackAf was a great series. I think people have a hard time seeing black families with money be realistic. 🤷🏽♂️ I love it.
