- In part 1 of Ghost of Tsushima Act 1: Rescue Lord Shimura, we play as Jin Sakai, a 13th century samurai in Sucker Punch's new game. I'm very excited to play this game, it's absolutely stunning and I'm immediately in love with Jin. He's such an interesting character.

In the late 13th century, the Mongol empire has laid waste to entire nations along their campaign to conquer the East. Tsushima Island is all that stands between mainland Japan and a massive Mongol invasion fleet led by the ruthless and cunning general, Khotun Khan. As the island burns in the wake of the first wave of the Mongol assault, samurai warrior Jin Sakai stands as one of the last surviving members of his clan. He is resolved to do whatever it takes, at any cost, to protect his people and reclaim his home. He must set aside the traditions that have shaped him as a warrior to forge a new path, the path of the Ghost, and wage an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima.

Horse name Kage isn't the pronunciation as Kaji, Jin Sakai pronounces as "Ka-gay". (I broke the word just to make it understandable, no other intentions at all)

19:55 - Shogun were the masters of the Samurai. Shogun were like community leaders and Samurai defended their lands. Ronin were Samurai that didn't serve a Shogun. There was a miniseries in the 70s or early 80s called Shogun with Richard Chamberlain that was amazing.
That's not quite right. There was only one Shogun and he was the head of the military state and by extension held the highest power in japan. While there was still an emperor, he would only have power in name while the shogun commanded the heads of the many great clans, which in turn were called Daimyo. So to stay in power he would have to keep them in line and threaten to rally the other Daimyos to keep the status quo, should one of them have desires for the position. Their power was fragile because he had to rely on the daimyos to keep them safe from the daimyos. One Daimyo alone wasn't strong enough to overthrow the shogun and an alliance would likely collapse due to infighting, as each of them wants to claim the seat. Samurai were warrior nobility and only made up about one third of a clans fighting force at most with the rest filled up by the so called ashigaru. One of the many differences between them were their equipment and the fact that only samurai were allowed to fight on a horseback. During sengoku jidai japan fell into chaos as many Daimyos wanted to contest and claim the shogun seat for themselves, which was held by the ashikaga shogunate for almost 3 centuries.

It was awesome that this came out in the same year as Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

after conquering China (I'm guessing that's why we see dragons on Khotan's robes) and Korea.
(My knowledge on this is also quiet limited, so just sharing what I know)

@@kevinnorwood8782 More like a failure for the Mongols. On 2 occasions, the Mongol's fleets were destroyed by typhoons, which also gave rise to Japan's belief and worship of the "Sacred wind" (and a deity name for it too i believe).
@@eddieguererro46 Yeah, I recently watched a couple videos by Kings And Generals on the Mongol invasions of Japan, and they were definite failures for the Mongols. I did, however, know beforehand about those typhoons that wreaked havoc on the Mongol fleets.
Is it just me that got flashbacks to the Seraphite Island scene with Lev when Jin and Yuna was running to the stables with all the buildings being on fire
Fun fact, the actor who plays Khotun Khan is also the same actor who played Attila the Hun in the Night at the Museum movies.
As someone who grew up with those movies, it's simultaneously awesome and terrifying to see him as this brutal warlord, and I'm all for it.

Has anyone else noticed that if you have the iki island dlc the flashback of Jin's father's death actually changes?, this is why I live this game just those small details.

9th grade history knowledge coming in hot: Kublai Khan was the grandson of Genghis Khan who was able to conquer China, thus creating the Yuan Dynasty (13th century). But, after failed attempts to conquer Japan (and possibly other countries I don't fully remember) his Mongol dynasty decline and his was inevitably overthrown by the Chinese.
Fun fact the voice actor of jin in japanese version is the same voice actor of zoro from one piece.

Jin Sakai dodges arrows while Kiryu (in modern day) dodges bullets, grenade launchers, missiles and so on 😂
I was thrown through a loop with R2 being the thing for collecting shit, crawling, opening doors and getting on your horse. The amount of times I've stabbed my horse is mad cos it's usually triangle to mount your horse
I hurt my horse a few times because of that too! :c

I just want to say that your playthrough of Ghost of Tsushima has probably been my favorite - it's so fun listening to your breakdowns of the characters and the turns in the plot. You really get this game and what the developers' vision was. Thank you for making these!
A little fact, when Japan was in war, the enemys were shocked by the japanese lenght because they were short, so to counter that, samouraïs started to use scary masks to put pressure on their enemys, and to also be very scary. It worked a lot.

@@gloriempaka9474 True though the game was writen in English.. The game developers gave option for a Japanese Dubb.. However its just like an English dubbed movie alot of times the voices and mouths do not match..

in the early 80s there was a series called "shogun' which portrayed a westerner who got shipwrecked on japan and then learned and ingratiated himself in the samauri culture. very good.. give it a look if you are interested

At 47:23 Yuriko says that Jin's father is the wind on his back. His father is literally the guiding wind, guiding hin to new missions and stuff. Idk how I didn't make that connection.

Yes Kota Khan, Did attack the Island of Tsushima. As for the armor the designs are right time period is kinda wrong. Jin's 1st Armor the Broken Armor, is the old Armor, Lord Adachi's armor think that might be Meaji period? Not sure but it is newer armor close to the time of gun powder? Around there I could be wrong.
I remember finding a video where a person showed what happens when you almost kill khan and...nothing happened 😂

As a mongolian hearing a mongolian in a video game for the first time feels weird but good.
I don't really know much about the detail but i'll try to explain the gist of how mongol invasion of japan went.
During the 1300s Yuan empire(Mongols) of Khubilai invaded Japan twice. Both times Mongols were hit by sea tornado called kamikaze. Although mongols were elite soldiers on the ground their experience on the ship were little to none. So when the kamikaze hit them most of the mongolians sunk with their ship. And the remaining mongols that reached japan were wiped out by samurais. So the mongol never really conquered japan.
At least that's what i learned in history class.
Also the wind that destroyed the mongolian ships is called kamikaze which translates to god's wind, because if it weren't for the kamikaze mongol might have conquered japan.

I don't know if you figured it out but if you swipe right on the touchpad you can either put away or pull out your sword and the other direction also do stuff like playing the flute and bowing to people or objects. I haven't watched the whole video cause you're past where I paused to eat dinner.

Off-topic, but I'm hoping this game does well partly so that Sucker Punch will regain the confidence they need to make an inFAMOUS spin-off.
Can we customize our sword? Or getting new sword in shop/from enemies?
So far I found another sword, but I think I picked it up when I was looting random homes/building. Gonna check out the customization in the next video (I'm just waiting to see if there's tutorial for it)
You can find cosmetic skins for your sword laying in the world and you can go to a blacksmith and upgrade the damage of your sword. so far that's all the customization I've seen there is no make your own sword or anything so far as I know

Ghost mode is more ninja like. Stealth and assassination is not the way of the samurai. I think Jin is going to have to do anything he can to survive, though.
