    I showed this video to some one yesterday, and they said "he's just gay." They got slapped. And not just by me.

      @@alonzokincaid1362 honey this was 4 years ago. i was a dumb kid just starting highschool. this was also a made up story i said just to try to get attention, as i had a bad habit of doing that; nobody got slapped, though i do recall someone said that and got told off by a LOT of people. next time look at the date a comment was made before you reply. i was about to say i hope you have a lovely day, but i realized you're being a bigot. i do hope you rethink your life choices and find god in your life. I don't worship god myself, but i know they promote love and acceptance for everybody.

    Thank you! I think lately I've realized I might be genderqueer because I've never been fully confident in identifying myself as female. I've always struggled... The problem has probably been that I've confused these feeling of thinking I was a gay female. But I am def attracted to men lol... I just feel most comfortable being androgyn (not female/not male). Videos and vloggers like you help alot to try to accept and understand myself :)

      Male and female are identified by the genitalia they have shee even look you refer to yourself as a female so that means you're a female just because you're a little confused does it mean your gender has to be altered it is the state of mind that you're in your body will never be confused if it's a male or female look down and see how destructive this pathway is full of destruction misery then eventually self-destruction become comfortable and happy with yourself and no matter what you will always be super happy so you know you don't have to change your gender it was never our choice to begin with or is a choice now

    When you were brought up you were taught that there is boys and there are girls. Then you grew up and realised that it wasn't true?
    Well, it still is true. Either you are male or you are female. Some disorders blur out the lines, but they have disorders. And I am talking about physical disorders.
    What you must be talking about is gender-roles, and who cares about what role other people feels is right for them? I have never asked myself, "Who are those genderqueer people anyway?". What other people do is none of my business, and as long as they don't break the law or stomp on kittens I am fine with them, no matter if a man wanna wear lipstick and skirts or a female wants to wear a bowtie. She can wear a bowtie on her head for all i care.

    I didn't really know much about this subject, but it's good to inform myself and learn new things. People shouldn't be afraid, instead, everybody should be eager to learn more about the things they don't know. Great video, this is a very brave young person, sometimes it's really hard to be yourself, especially when people are ignorant.

  • @thescoon1
    @thescoon1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Be free to be yourself, by all means. Regardless of your sex, you should be free to express yourself however you want.
    The part I get confused by is the labelling, as I can't see how viewing the words 'men' and 'women' as being identical to 'masculine' and 'feminine' is a good thing. In fact, I think this is what produces sexism. The word 'man' or 'male' has always related to biology. We call male chimps male because they are the ones that produce sperm and have a specific anatomy; identity isn't a condition to being male, only your biology is. None of that has anything to do with who you are as a person, nor should it. Thus, if you view being male or female as a performative exercise, you are being sexist, as you're inviting those socialised norms of 'females are feminine' and 'males are masculine' more rigidly into your life.
    Again, you can wear whatever you like, do whatever you like, but as soon as you say 'I don't identify with being male because I like feminine things' that is *you* saying that being male means you have to be a certain way, and I think that's where the problems appear for me, as someone who is opposed to sexism the way no doubt many people here are.

    Thank you so much for this. I will say that I really like wearing women's clothing and make-up but hate wearing wigs. I realize now after watching this video that not being able to place someone in category A or B can feel very strange. Letting go of preconceived notions is very difficult, even for myself. I currently crossdress and enjoy just wearing a dress and perfume or a bit of make-up. It can really make me feel good. I know most men would never find a guy that does women's shit attractive, but if that's the case, I'd almost rather be alone. To me, it's much easier to be true to one's self and be without love than be loved for who I am not.

    • @travisr6959
      @travisr6959 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The truth, in fact, lies in my sense of fantasy. It is this sense of fantasy that makes me an imaginative person, and by indulging this, I'm indulging my true self. Most fantasies are tied to stereotypes. If you look hard, you will see that everyone's fantasies are full of preconceived notions as without those preconceptions, our imaginations would be empty. My intent, therefore, is not to reinforce gender stereotypes, which are arguably reinforced by women every time many of them go out on a date. It is to be myself in a different light and feel the luxury of the soft feel of the dress, the tightness of a stocking and the height of a spiked heel.

    I don't understand how personality has anything to do with a gender. Anyone with a touch of common sense knows that personality traits are not specific to one gender. Just like Make-up, skirts, or the color pink don't make you any more female than a bow-tie, shaved head, or the color blue make you more male. Your natural physical features are what make you a male or female, not the items or styles you choose to adorn yourself with.
    You want to destroy the societal stereotypes of male and female yet you perpetuate it by saying something like this "when someone's trying to embrace their gender for the first time and their femininity...".

    • @juniperfox1064
      @juniperfox1064 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Kyle Gilbert Masculinity and femininity are set terms that people do not argue with. We just want to stop boys from feeling like if they are feminine they deserve to get beat up, ect. People who identify with a more masculine gender like to wear traditionally masculine things in order to feel more connected to other people like them and to be accepted by people. Yes, women can be masculine and men can be feminine. Just because that is true does not mean that genderqueer identities aren't valid.

  • @cloudambient
    @cloudambient 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I don't know. I don't think outward appearance is what makes who we are. I think it's shallow. Gender obviously means SOMETHING if you're wanting to identify as the opposite than the one you were assigned to at birth, or if you're trying to mix qualities of both. I kind of don't buy this. "I'm more authentic when I wear fabricated items" I fully support LGBTQ rights, I'm gay, I fully support anyone who's going to/has/or is in the middle of transitioning, but sometimes I think this whole "gender queer"/"gender fluidity" is fairly self centered, and that people are thinking waaaay too much about themselves ("how do I want to be viewed") rather than just ... being. I'm sorry, but scientifically speaking, there are only two genders (three if you're counting hermaphrodites). Gender fluid people one day want to be identified as male and will scoff at you for calling them Miss, and then the next day will want to be identified as a woman and scoff at you for calling them "man" like ... really? Be realistic, some people have way bigger fish to fry than your ego and vanity in appearances and identity. Everyone should be loved and respected, but everyone also needs to think a little less about themselves in this ego centric, selfie-generation, narcissist world.

      +accompanist603 I agree and disagree with you on a lot of points. For the most part, I do think a lot of these people who want to be identified as genderqueer, or more specifically as genderfluid, are taking it far too seriously. I do believe genderneutral and genderfluid work as ideas of presenting yourself, but the concept of constantly shifting gender to the point of being a boy one week, a girl the next and both/neither the week after does seem a little farfetched.
      However, gender IS a culturally specific concept. SEX only exists in a binary, and the presence of people who are born intersex even call into question that idea. You were raised in a world where it is boy or girl (and as of late, something between or beyond), but in many cultures their were genders which cover pretty much anything inbetween - the Hijras of India (male-born, living similar to women, explained within their culture), the five genders of the Bugis people, and even the genders within Judaism and two-spirit people with indigenous tribes.
      What differs however is how they're explained - many of these genders are still based on the concept of some fusion of male and female, and sometimes when translated to OUR system, it could basically lump certain types of trans people with gay men and women.
      TL;DR I agree with your sentiment but trust me gender is a fucking mess

      @@buuzzsawtouchedme194 So what you're saying is that you dont like seeing acceptance and tolerance in the world. Also, no gender is defined as a mental illness. Gendee is defined as a perception and identity which can be changed, nonbinary, is limitless, and is valid as long as the individual actually precieves themselves to be said gender. What it is not defined as is a mental illness. Gender dysphoria or body dismorphia are mental illnesses even though they kind of shouldnt be, but those do not go hand in hand with what your gender is.

    Quick clarification:
    Just because you denounce or choose to act like or dress like another gender does not mean you can classify as a new gender. You can definitely *identify* as gender queer, go ahead, but in no way does that make you a new type of gender. There are only two genders: Male and Female (No, non-binary is not a gender it is the absence of one). Also for those who may bring up the point that sex and gender are two different things, they are not, just different words that mean exactly the same thing, search it up on the dictionary. If you really please to say that you are "gender-queer" or any other gender Tumblr fed to you, go ahead, but Gender is classified by sex organs, so if you desire to switch from male to female you have to switch those out (A quite simple procedure). You can easily identify as anything you want, but when it comes to gender, you have only two choices. Thank you and have a nice day.

      Last time I checked, Jeans were stereotypicaly Manly, but you can wear them and not be judged.
      You can wear Shirts (male Shirts), you can wear boots, in fact name a Male type of clothing and you can wear it.
      In fact the majority of Men tend to find it cool when Woman dress like them, so you really have no argument.
      On the other hand If I worse a Dress, I'd not only be a laughing stock, but many people will refer to me as a pervert (as most man gain sexual arousal from wearing Female clothing).

    There was an entire video that I found just bashing all of this, and bashing genderqueer people. That made me so furious how the world is honestly so non-accepting. I'm not actually genderqueer, so I can't say I've had to experience any of this, but I'm bisexual, and so AS A PART OF THE LGBTQ PPLZ, I WAS EXTREMELY DEFENSIVE xD
    I have a bunch of genderqueer friends aswell so to listen to some guy talk shit about all of it made me really upset. Everybody deserves love, and to be respected for whatever decisions they make, and it doesn't matter if other people 'agree' with them, or not. I didn't wanna contribute to the hate too much, so I left a (slightly rude) comment and disliked the vid, then came here. EVERYBODY HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY//NIGHT

    I've been assuming that trans is just an umbrella term for anyone who isn't cis (or intersex), so saying trans would include agender/bigender/genderfluid/etc, is that correct, or does it only apply when a person identifies as the gender opposite of what they were assigned at birth?

    • @TheTwigCrackedAnd
      @TheTwigCrackedAnd 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Magic Penguin It's correct. However... language is weird! and people use it differently! therefore, some people will not define themselves as trans even if they are agender, etc. So if you are refering to a group, i think it's okay to use trans to mean anything under that umbrella; if refering to a specific person (particularly those outside binary) maybe check with that first?

    • @TheTwigCrackedAnd
      @TheTwigCrackedAnd 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Magic Penguin just to add- "trans" comes from greek or latin (cant remember :/) and means going across from one thing to another, as opposed to 'cis' which means staying the same. so for me, at least, trans works for all peeps who don't align with gender they were assigned at birth

  • @anna-mariahjorth6527
    @anna-mariahjorth6527 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A lot of these hate comments seem to confuse sex and gender. No, having a different gender identity won't suddenly change your body -- however, we're all entitled to our identity and way of defining ourselves. People whose assigned gender at birth doesn't match their gender identity would only make other people happy by saying they're the gender "they were born into". I think for most of us, it's been a long struggle starting from childhood or adolescence where we've felt like something is up and however much we've tried to fit into the gender box, it's made us unhappy and others happy. So at the end of the day, whether you believe it or not, it's a real thing and that should be enough for you to at least respect it even if you don't share these emotions of dysphoria or unhappiness yourself. To me, saying genderqueer isn't a thing is like telling a muslim or a bisexual man that they can either be Christian or atheist, straight or gay.. I understand that what you're saying is coming from a place of not understanding or being able to relate to these emotions, but fact of the matter is most of us would rather identify with the gender binary instead of feeling this way in this era of non-acceptance so that we didn't have to get beat up in the street or fear for our lives. However that comes at the cost of unhappiness, depression, and an inauthentic life experience. To live not being yourself isn't really living.

    My only problem with all of this gender stuff is that I never know how to refer to these people. If I saw this person in the video on the street and wanted to compliment him/her (SEE!?) what the fuck do I say? If In a sentence I needed to use a he/she pronoun what should I use? If you expect us not to care what gender or level of transsexuals you are then you can't expect us to care whether or not you would prefer male or female pronouns. Because immediately you've just put the burden on others to consider your feelings by expressing your gender fluidity.
    I speak from experience. I've had 2 instances where I used the wrong pronouns toward someone (worked as a cashier) and the dude/gal flipped their shit on me. This one person literally just looked like a guy with long hair. I looked up, saw a guy, said 'sir'. Fuck off. I was so pissed they got angry at me.

    • @TheTwigCrackedAnd
      @TheTwigCrackedAnd 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +ricochet188 Hey, i get that it's frustrating. But think about it from their perspective: they're not dressing like that to make you confused, but just to feel okay in their own body. and they probably have people use the wrong pronouns, question and harass them pretty regularly, which can be really difficult!
      i'd advise going with 'they' if you don't know and can't ask, otherwise it's totally acceptable to ask "which pronouns would you like me to use?"
      and it's okay to make a mistake and apologise! most androgynous-looking people will be cool with that.

      +ricochet188 If you don't know how to refer to someone, the best thing to do is ask. So long as you're polite about it, they won't mind. In fact, it's becoming common practice in LGBT spaces to ask what pronouns people prefer upon meeting them, even if they seem obviously female or obviously male (because you never know).

    • @ricochet188
      @ricochet188 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yeah I don't have a problem asking, Though sometimes asking, in it's self, can insult someone who you may *think* is trying to come off as trans/whatever but they really aren't. Aside from that, I'm specifically refering to scenerios where you're in a situation with someone where either there isn't time or you're literally only meaning to say one or two words to someone, say, as you're passing a stranger on the street: you don't want to stop them and spend time asking how they'd like to be addressed, you just want to say, "Hey man, I like your shoes" or use even less words than that. You know? There have been times where I'd have said something to someone who was obviously trans or something other than the typical cis male or female, in passing but chose not to because I had no idea how to address them and wasn't about to awkwardly stop them to find out.
