I'm enjoying the characterization of Katarina in this comic. She has depth, instead of being 2 dimentional "haha I'm gonna stab you" she actually has a personality now
I tend to agree that's good she's a bit more fleshed out; but she feels a bit out of character. In the end, it's OK if she is a bit edgy. You can keep some of the cheesy lines (although not all of them, probably) and give her a bit of a Tsundere vibe. Deadly, angry... but deep down she cares. I'm liking the comic very much; but Katarina's personality seem to be designed to make the plot advance. She's just this skillfull assassin who's a bit confused between two manipulative father figures, and she has this sort of light characterization that blends some action with a bit of comedy... sort of the hero of a Marvel movie. I don't think this sort of personality is bad on itself (it would 100% fit a number of champs); but it makes Katarina feel a bit bland, a bit non-descript. It blends with the visual design, which is a bit softer than I would like. I think her splash art re-design was a step forward, giving her a more non-traditional type of beauty. The comic (which is beautifully drawn, just to be clear) reverts her into this sort of Barbie-like type of face. I get the general idea: giving her more motivation and internal conflict that "I WILL STAB YOU BECAUSE I CAN" is good; but you can both give the character all that without betraying her "I WILL STAB YOU BECAUSE I CAN" essence. Otherwise you may end up watering down the character.

Breath of fresh air really. She’s an actual character and less of a moodboard now.
I absolutely adore that we get to see these interactions between Kat and Talon, they are brother and sister in a broken home, not just two assassins, and Kat seems like she really cares about him.
It makes me feel uneasy, disappointed and sick… they made such a looser from him. big talk an nothing from it. He was supposed to be elite assassin maybe even better than Katarina and now he is beaten in his pajamas and cry like a baby…
@@artemisea5287 He IS an elite assassin even before being adopted by the ducouteau family. The comic is creating depth, humanizing him and giving him more personality than "die by the blade hur durr". I hope they keep building his personality more. This was a great comic issue
I mean Swain also said that Camille was “C” and then it turned out to be Corina Veraza so I’m not sure if all his interactions are even really canon anymore. A lot changed since those interactions were written.
I think her friend is Targonian. Noxians believe in Assimilation as a means of conquest. Having a part of your original identity merged with Noxus' strength is a big part of the reason people join them. Samira is still very Shuriman, but would describe herself as Noxian. Probably the same thing here.
The only problem with this theory is the noxians are no where near targon on their path of conquest. Maybe she's sheriman and has traded for targonian goods?

As a Hemomancer she was likely one of the orphans under Vladimir, maybe after fleeing Targon she was captured in Shurima and sold off to an aforementioned Noxian Noble. Then eventually escaped as she insinuates she doesn't commonly use Hemomancy anymore, but for her friend Katarina is an exception.
Could that magical forest be a sign of a BandleCity gate? We learned in Tristanas and Lulus short story, that magical forests rise where Bandle City gates are hidden. That prismatic slug would fit in with what we saw of Bandle City inthe last few trailers.
More so that we know petricite isn't a magic dampener but an absorber, so the supposedly "lack" of magic in Demacia is a overly blown lie. And even if the magic groves grow besides the gates, the gates itself are pretty well hidden from those without special sight, so that would explain why there is one of those to close to the capital but people don't see. And most demacians are trying to NOT get close to magic.
that and the fact that Petricite Trees absorb magic could heavily impact the fauna and flora around them imagine being a bird but living in a tree that is supercharged with fire magic, that surely isnt harmless, and in legends of runeterra we know there are creatures that even share the magic absorbtion of the petricite trees
It's the walls leaking magic, like osmotic pressure, the amount of magic in their walls is alot because it keeps absorbing it from anything, but just like sylas that magic has to go somewhere. So the outside is where it leaks to.
A Talon ASU that makes him look younger and more naive would be nice. His current base splash is pretty bland. Here he actually looks a bit like SSW Talon lol

I love the characterization this comic gave to Kat, to me at least, this really emmancipated her from just being the "sexy assassin lady", now we have such a well done and surprisingly deep understanding of her ideals and personality. She has friends that are loyal to her and she is loyal to, she isn't just trying to prove she is better than others, she respects others very much especially when she sees their potential and dedication. And another great aspect of the comic... it is just a little teaser with subtle hints of what will happen in the game without needing to throw in our faces things and advancing other characters that probably will not appear in the game but are important for the overall depth of the world.
She continues to be the "sexy assassin lady", only this sexy assassin has a very well-crafted background behind it, although we still have to wait for the end of the comic to know if her iconic skills "Shunpo and Death Lotus" will be well described by responsible narrative direction!
I hope Katarina gets new voicelines after this, her personality is sooo different (and better) in this comic that it just needs to happen. Katarina has been one of my favorite characters since 2014 even when I didn't main her but she always felt a little bit bland especially compared to when they started adding new champions with very interesting voicelines and/or reworking old ones and giving them really cool voicelines. However, Katarina has always felt like the cliche, basic, cold, edgy assassin (and Talon feels the same tbf), so I hope they both get an upgrade.
Always admired Katarina as a character ever since the beginning, and now with the depth that she has it's even easier to associate with her. Great job from the story team. But don't break apart the siblings Riot!! Hoping this is a setup to a proper relationship based on trust between Kat and Talon! And also we want a reunion in the future of the siblings with Cassi and their mother!! That last part where Kat talks about her family situation is beyond sad! 😢
During the dream secuence I could only think of Zed being there because of the shadow magic or whaever and if it has a conection to nocturne being in Nightmares and stuff idk please Rito give us more lore around that.

Was really hoping they wouldn’t make talon and katarina confrontational. Always wished for the two of them to be more supportive of each other considering what Cassiopeia is like and the common ground they share. Still time for that to change but the jealousy and fighting over parental love we’ve seen before. Found family assassin siblings in a cutthroat city has a lot more potential in my eyes

I normally just watch these Necrit vids to stay up to date, but this one was thoroughly enjoyable all the way through. It had just the right blend of speculation and analysis imo, fantastic video
On the panel with kat looking at the cabinet of weapons, below the elixir or wrath looks to be the head of Riftmaker. Also the Duskblade of Draktharr might have lore implications as we know Pyke had acquired that item in The Ruined King for his secret legendary item, So either this is just a reference, Pyke having the Duskblade is non-cannon, Both, or Somehow the Duskblade left Pyke and wound up here infront of Katarina.

As a kat main. Riot really giving her story the love she needed. I love her relationship with Talon as two students but the older one learns the truth. I also love her characterization. She's so cheeky i can't help but swoon over that. She feels like a real person

im pretty sure katarinas dream was just a fever dream from being unconcious and it just kinda went weird because her subconscious noticed the whole demon ravens pecking at her to wake her up hence they seemed ''outside'' of her dream

I also just realized Talon's eye color is different in page 2 being brown at the tea house but blue elsewhere, maybe just a mistake.

I mean, it´s make sense that Demacia has a magic forest, despite their distaste for magic, Demacia was founded in magical lands, the Demacian people are magical, they face magical creatures everyday and so on, and it's kind of strange that this is never considered or brought up. The only thing putting their magic in check is the petricite, if not, Demacia would be a magic country, this is if they are not already, because Demacia uses and have a lot of magic knowledge

Imagine talon gets an asu with her and talon is using the family blade as his main weapon instead of his gauntlet blade
Perhaps a mix of both: the one that wasn't broken and his wrist-blade. Perhaps he keeps the broken blade strapped to his back?
