    I went away from my hometown for 9 years, studying and then continue working in my country capital city, Kuala Lumpur. As a village girl that live out my childhood in rural village (almost far end of my district border, Tawau) living in big city has its very specific excitement ( i still love going window shopping at big malls aimlessly or going to movies) but eventually my heart always came back to my childhood’s comfort. I came back to my hometown, to my parents last year, and the longer I’m here, the more feminine I reverted back. I wear skirt and vintage clothes back. I’m back to bundle/thrift shopping for sustainability ( the only thing I insisted to buy is boots/shoes/slippers and Uniqlo heat-less tees) I’m happier and eventho I do missed the hustle bustle of big city, I have bigger responsibilities to work in our own land and vegetables farm here. I’m stil far from happy, but for now, I’m content. Sorry for the long rant, its been hard having no bestfriend around me physically currently. Seeing all the cottagecore aesthetics calmed me down more.

    • @jemi_
      @jemi_  3 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      Yeah pretty much haha! It's very contradictory to most cottagecore fashion, which is usually fast fashion or high-end clothing that costs a fortune (unless you make it yourself or thrift it which is preferred), especially now that a lot of influencers are into cottagecore. I know there are some that make their own clothes, but most do promote either fast fashion or very expensive clothing, which is quite the opposite of what the aesthetic itself wishes to promote/focus on.

    • @dlm4708
      @dlm4708 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@jemi_ ^^^ this. It's very much what the individual does with it. There is thrifted furniture, which people learn how to fix and replace parts of, to keep it out of landfills and keep using real wood items... and then there is buying brand-new items and refinishing them with wallpaper or stick-on liners from IKEA.
      There are people like me, with piles of old hand towels and linens from the 70s or so that no one wanted, who makes old fabric and clothing into different items or composts all-natural fabrics eventually... But now they are showing up everywhere in Jo-Ann Fabrics stores and Target stores as pillows and cotton shower curtains! Augh! For $50 each! But they're the same worn-out, muted over-washed colours of the ones I have. hahaha
      Haven't low-income Americans been using these worn crochet blankets as things like shower curtains and resewing handkerchiefs into pillows for 80 years?! And I should be happy to spend over a DAY'S worth of 8-hour income after taxes on.... ONE pillow at Target?! "Sustainable" my foot! I can't sustain an electric bill at that rate!
      It'll be whatever you make of it. With time, knowledge, and skill-building. Don't feel bad if you don't have certain skills or not enough time. I sure as hell didn't have the time or skills ten years ago. It takes time to get that.

    I don't think many people knew this but cottagecore/farmcore was actually super popular in china in the late 2000s to mid 2010s, especially in video games. But it was mostly furniture / interior decoration, not so much about fashion or lifestyle. Common visuals include a straw hat, french dress (chiffon), basket, windmill, lavender field, rose garden, light beige wooden furniture, cushions in vintage patterns, and plants in hanging pots. Well, that's all I could remember. Btw- it was called tianyuan feng (田园风). Oh, mori kei is popular too, but the chinese version looks completely different.

      Hi, have you looked into aesthetics that mix fairycore with another aesthetic like academia (I have a video including it)? I also cannot fully commit myself to fairycore even though I adore it, so I usually try to mix it with something like academia (fairy academia) or the soft girl aesthetic. That way it doesn't feel overwhelming or too "out of place" if you're not used to dressing in that style or don't want to fully commit to it.

I know how to forage as me and my family do it quite often especially in the winter when we forage for slows, and winter berries to make juices! And wines. We and my family have our own allotment where we grow our own vegetables and fruits to eat through the year, as we grow a variety of things that grow all throughout the year! Which means we’re always getting enough fibre and vitamins which we need for each month! I’m very appreciative that I live in such a beautiful area, and that my aesthetic is cottagecore! As it makes it very easy for me to pursue this aesthetic in future! And for those of you who live in the city! I'm 100% dark cottagecore, I like how it's dark but still soft. I feel like it represents me better. Though I am myself pretty cheerful and energetic, the dark makes me calm and soothes me. I've been living like this already for a while, hobbies and all, so seeing it in a video is great to see that my take on cottagecore is a bit more widespread than I thought!
    Just know that you don't just hop into an aesthetic and change your life overnight, it's not a realistic thing to do. I made my space a dark cottagecore space over years of curating only a few items and redecorating with what I already owned. In terms of clothing, I slowly incorporated cottagecore in my closet over time as I needed new clothing, not just because I wanted clothing. Don't overconsume, thrift when possible, search for curated items and be creative!

    • @jemi_
      @jemi_  ปีที่แล้ว

      I 100% agree with this. Curating personal style, whether in home decor, fashion or other areas of our lives takes time and money. It will take me a very long time to reach a point where I'll have the things I want for my aesthetics, and it's really about patience. A lot of my cottagecore items are thrifted too :)

    I went to a school that was in a Victorian manor, well half of it, rest was in a brutalist block building, but around it was fields (with sheep), the main road, a railway line that hasn't seen service in over 50 years (now a public path) and trees

      Hi there, I just wanted to say, that I hope you can someday get the courage to wear the clothes you want! I know exactly what you're talking about, I'm from Finland and there's usually an unwritten rule about how you should dress. Anything outside of mainstream is judged immediately. It took me a lot of experimentation in a safe space and a supportive group of friends to finally come out of my shell. Now, every time I go back to my hometown, people will still stare, but I choose to not care, since it's not about them. I talk more about this in my "discover your aesthetic" video if you want to have a look. I hope one day you'll find the confidence/courage to dress how you want 💙

    You forgot to mention, Coastal cottagecore. Male/female strawhats, overalls, faded denim, late victorianesc.. swimsuits, short knitted shoulder caps for women, flatcaps hats for men, pleated pants for men. Muted floral dresses to ankles for women. This aesthetic has been around for awhile.

    • @jemi_

    I literally just got into core aesthetics yesterday and WOW!
    It's really interesting.
    And that's coming from a guy.
    My favorite one out of the one you mentioned is Goblincore, I really adore it.
    I'd actually consider to base some stuff around one aesthetic, but I haven't found the right one yet... I need something with nature, snow, mountains and tones of grey.
    Mixing would be an option, I guess, but I haven't found any aesthetic linked to Snow yet :/

    • @jemi_
      @jemi_  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you may have a mix of the winter aesthetic (unfortunately I haven't found a more specific aesthetic tied to snow) + dark academia/cottagecore (depending if you like to dress more upscale or not) + goblincore. There may be a more specific aesthetic linked to snow, but so far I haven't found any.
      I hope this helps a little bit, I know it can be frustrating when your aesthetic isn't as obvious as it is for some. I personally am building up a pinterest board for my aesthetic because I don't really belong into any one aesthetic.
      I'm glad you've enjoyed looking into aesthetics though, and I'll be constantly making more videos like this!😊

    Omg this reminds me of the extremely popular Rustic Style I grew up with in China. However, head scarves and milkmaid tops were not part of the look. It was more of a beachy version with lace tops, chiffon blouses, short pants, t-shirts layered under a floral mini dress, denim jackets, wedges, and a must-have straw hat. 😩😩😩 I still remember that clothing store I had in a Qzone video game. But nowadays it's watered down to only French floral and corset/apron dresses (idk what they're called) so RIP to this style 😭

    • @jemi_
