Sparta a bad faction? Sure, the lack of unit variety is a bit boring, but A.I vs Pike Phalanx is broken as hell. You can take over Europe with nothing but pikemen and slingers.
Any faction that has pikes becomes easy to play in campaign. He said you simply cant win whith epirus in the early campaign when honestly all you have to do is have 8 pikes and ur city is unconquerable , and take advantage when ur enemies are distracted.
Eduardo Borges Spartan Pikemen are better though. And Epirus is easy to beat so long as you force them to attack you. As long as you're defending, Epirus can't beat you.
Is there a hard campaign for Rome 2 though? Seriously asking because the most fun I get is playing Rome because it's the easiest because slightly challenging enough to be obnoxious isn't entertaining.
+NochalNTTS Yeah but cav units tend to have less soldiers per unit than non cav units. 60 missile cav where you might get 90 per infantry. Also, can they even build siege stuff? I don't remember how that works.
Epirus _is_ extremely difficult *unless* you take Athens immediately. Taking Athens sounds difficult, but all you need to do is: 1) use a spy on an Athenian supporting army to nullify its ability to reinforce, 2) then recruit as many mercenaries as you can afford, 3) attack Athens with a supporting army in reinforcement range* *you'll need to do the battle as an auto sim will have you losing. Once you've taken Athens, Sparta isn't too difficult, then take Rome (helps to ally factions north and south of Rome). After taking Rome, it is a pretty easy campaign :)
Epirus was easy for me. I became allies with the Illyrian tribes without even paying for the alliances. Sparta and Athens became allies and went to war with Macedon, so I became allies with Macedon. I took out Sparta, Macedon was taken out by tyllis, and then I took out Athens. Rhodos, Pergamon, and Knossos all became my client states.
+striker161 I Kick ass with Epirus in my campaign I Allied with all of Africa .. you have two different ways of going about it knock off Macedon or head for Rome.. because all of Greece hates you.. these two fraction will help you ally with those who hate them.. you need a walled city best to forget Athens as Sparta is likely coming.. go for a quick kill to a major fraction..
Cant agree with Pergamon being on this list. At turn 2 take Sardes. You now have -25% consturction cost, -10% from wonder and -10%+ from marble. From turn 3 you have half price for buildings. Open trade with egypt (as you are in war with seleucid anyway) and macedon + knossos. Dont ally with Rhodos as you want full province fast. Their Agema spears are a great holdout unit. As for units. Pike front. Theuros spears on your sides. Archers + artillery behind. Support with cav + peltast to flank. The +4 town growth is also very, very good early game. Pergamon has one of the best starting positions in the game netting you +20% industry, +4 growth, -50% building cost, easy trade partners, +10% trade income and more from turn 5-10 (I'm talking legendary difficulty here). Pergamon should not even remotely be on this list.
I think the video itself it's quite clueless, since mixes up campaign with unit roster. As I understand it a "worst factions list" It should only go for unit roster. Pergamon's roster is awful, impossible to make it competitive in MP. Their position is quite interesting for campaign though, as you pointed out. I think I'd subjugate some factions whose unit roster might complement Pergamon's. For instance, Galatia for swordsmen. Actually, I think this should be the way for every nation in campaign, both for fun and perfection. In my Macedon's campaign, I'm looking for an Oathsworn source at the moment. It would be awesome to see such awesome unit fighting for the Argead Star.
I agree, and maybe the campaign seems difficult, you can take on rome because you will find many allies against them. For multiplayer they are not the worst, let's not forget about the cheap axe units, they can deliver the AP damage you need, on the flank they will stay alive. Against sword the illyrian hoplites do better than greek ones. There are also thueros spears for skirmishing.
@PYRRHUS ok, but campaign wise epirus is terrible, all its neighbors wanna kill them. Combined with the worst starting position and a horrible economy, they are the worst greek state in the campaign.
you know whats stupid? i always see people who complain that they cant play as every fraction and then when they can play as fractions such as pergamon etc they complain that the unit roster is poor and there isn't enough selection with it. Well maybe because those nations are so small an insignificant they didn't have a massive capabilities that Rome and such had.
I have no problem with certain factions being weaker. You know what IS a huge problem though? Being charged $10 to play as a new faction only to find out it's dog shit. If you're gonna make me pay for faction DLCs, UPDATE THE FUCKIN ROSTER. That's what people are complaining about - don't let Creative Assembly hide behind this preconceived notion that "well Rome wiped them out in real life, so they should be bad in the game."
yp by all means :P Pls do this list also. Top 5 Factions that were Not Added in Attila. 5.Frissi tribe 4.The Heruli tribe - Odoaker was from the heruli tribe. 3.The White Huns - they runsacked the Sassanids in Baktria. 2.The Red Huns - they runsacked the Sassanids in Baktria. If they were in the Game the Sassanid Campaign would have been Fun.In vannila righ now you got only ERE 1.The Bulgarians - they were the main allies of the huns since 370s
Carthage is shite as well. They have a fucking terrible starting position in campaign with settlements spread across half the Mediterranean, they're famously a trading faction but get no resources (while Rome gets 2, as does your vassal Nova Carthago -_-) and worst of all you literally can't recruit anything other than 5 unit types until you get to tier 3 barracks. You're stuck with just 3 unit types with tier 1 barracks and need both types of tier 2 to get the other 2 units. Recruiting mercenaries can help, but your economic situation is completely fucked for the first 10-20 turns. Also, every one of your settlements have serious approval problems and non-faction religions, except for Carthage itself. Taking Syracuse is possible, but if Rome declares on you then they'll march their stacks in and your depleted units won't stand a chance, unless you get lucky and Rome declares late rather than early. Really, really, really hate what they did to Carthage in Rome 2.
+BucksheeRounds also the fact that you start out with literally no infrastructure apart from the military wharf in carthage, AND 3 of the 4 african settlements are owned by libya rather than you. i would gladly give up the settlements in spain for the rest of africa
Yup I reloaded many times but finally the Barcids crushed Rome,Spain,Gaul, Africa and Greece. Now waves of Carthaginian armies pouring in Crimea and in the Middle East.On of the most interesting and challenging campaigns. But you have a lot of variety in units and Elephants make the early game. Then you gotta rush to African pikemen which really turn the tide.
I'd have to disagree with Pergamon being a bad faction. If you know how to play them right you can do very well. They have cheap early sword and pike units that I have conquered such vast territories in early campaign that almost no other power except for maybe Rome and late game Parthia would have anything I couldnt take on. That includes the seleucids and egypt actually because if you know how to quickly counter their phalanxes with other units and leave them to fight your own you can take them down rather fast as well. You just need some tact but it is a very balanced faction. Not too strong in any areas but above average units in almost all and that's perfect for my play style.
Top 5 weakest factions? More like Top 5 greekest factions! Am I right guys? But seriously though all these factions are pretty much neighbouring each other, funny how they're all on this list.
Not a Spartan fanboy or anything, but the Spartan campaign is extremely easy given that it only has to fight Epirus with very good hoplites. It also has imo a great position on the very edge of Greece, and makes it a very easy place to defend (if you aren't already conquering the entire Greece with excellent hoplites already). They also have the best pikes for their price, and Thorax swords or Legionaries can't even kill my Spartan hoplites. In Multiplayer they are not the best, but they are pretty good even against sword factions. I only truly have problems with horse archers, but I'm already getting used to it. So all in all, Sparta shouldn't be on this list. It's (imo) one of the easiest Greek factions to play as (certainly easier than Macedon and Egypt) in campaign, and in Multiplayer it actually fairs really well. Does lacking sword units basically make a faction crap in multiplayer when it already has excellent infantry (aside from the helots and perioikoi)? The only problem I have with Sparta is its lack of good cav units (which I was never good at anyway), but I think Tarantines are okay. Just my two cents on this. Cheers mate:) Continue making great videos!
Plus, the Odrysian Kingdom is only difficult if you're not used to their play style. It has the best peltasts, access to decent hoplites, good melee units and decent cav.
+SoupofCan try to siege Macedon as odrysian kingdom lol.your siege towers will help you but thracian nobles and warriors are only good on the charge .they are a shock infantry .in prolonged fights they will lose
nonsense, just use catapults to destroy walls+towers, and plenty of archers/javs to pick off best soldiers on walls. even better, target wall sections with archers using your catapults, especially those with enemy archers+jav, and then use your own archers+jav to whittle down enemy.
Top 5 Factions that were Not Added in Attila. 5.Frissi tribe 4.The Heruli tribe - Odoaker was from the heruli tribe. 3.The White Huns - the runsacked the Sassanids in Baktria. 2.The Red Huns - the runsacked the Sassanids in Baktria. 1.The Bulgarians - they were the main allies of the huns since 370s
5. Would be excessive ( given the 8 preexisting germanic tribes ) 4. Actually Odoacer was from the Scrii tribe, but led a coalition of Herulians and Rugians against what was left of Rome. 3. What? White Huns? WTF? 2: Again, WTF? 1. Would have loved the Bulgars as a playable faction, so long as they were not given a nomadic roster...
+Frozenmenss1 lol im from Bulgaria and almost nobody mentions my country anywhere so its strange seeing some1 mention it but wouldnt that be interesting? to have them as a faction :) i never played RTW 2 and i dont have it cuz i hear reviewers say there are tons of glitches and its not that great of a game so currently i only play RTW 1 single player but eventually when the game gets better i might get it at least graphic wise and being realistic the game looks good
NEXT EPISODE: "The Top 5 BEST MISSILE UNITS in Total War: ATTILA!" (including missile cavalry) Which unit should definitely be in the list? Reply to this comment for a chance to be in these videos.
I disagree with Sparta being on there for a couple of reasons, first Spartas campaign is super easy and you are able to expand quickly, also in multi-player battles Sparta is one of if not the best defensive faction in the game, also dont can't complain about Spartas support units too much since their hoplites are already overpowered and at a good price for their quality, they can hold their own, their skirmishers are ok and citizen cav can keep enemy cav at bay til the Spartan hoplites break through, I'm not saying Sparta is by any means the best faction I just dont think it should be on this list, and this is coming from my experience
After beating the game as King of Epirus on legendary diffiuclty without any mods or smt, I saw there is no such thing "worst factions". Ever. There is only more challange. If a unit rooster lacks cav. or missile inf. or any side on the unit rooster, grow a solid economy and get the proper technology and use finest mercenaries, create satrapies, client states with more different cultures, not one or two, but 5 or 10, feed them, give them money, make them happy, grow your diplomatic cunning and force to join your cause. Get more variety of troops from them. See, that is a challenge and totally worth it.
I guess I can kind of understand the ardei as number one and thracians as number two but whoever says either of those factions sucks in multiplayer is not using them the correct way
Id like to point out MASSILA they got access to probably the smallest unit roster in the game, and nothing with any real kick. Its fun to play in campaign but their is NO real variation
As Royal Scythia, the only other factions I had trouble fighting were other nomadic horse lords. It would just come down to numbers. What I would do when conquering was take all of the villages first since my cav could walk right in. Then, I'd park my army and lay siege to the provincial walled city until they sallied forth or capitulated.. Anything I didn't plan to conquer I'd raid every so often for extra money. The Germanic and Celtic factions were the easiest to fight due to the low armor of their infantry.
I don't know why you would put the nomadic factions as honorable mention. They are awesome to play and very fun too. The campaign start is messy and hard, but that is half the fun and when dealing with heavy infantry and siege battles you have to be flexible which makes you a better player. Besides the map speed of cavalry only armies is OP. The mix between dirt cheep archer cavalry to wipe enemy horse and range units, plus few heavy lancers to hammer and encircle the broken enemy lines is great, even though hard to use, and the elite archer cavalry has the benefits of both. Also the Royal cavalry of Scitia might just be the best heavy cavalry in the game.
I like Massagetae Saka Catahpract+Catahpract Archers to torn enemies army apart. Nomadic factions horse Archer is very OP, Royal Sythians have Noblewomen Horse Archers have well armoured and have longer rangers firing, Massagetae have Saka Catahpract. I their gameplay is relied on aggressive and offensive style fighting, one my favourite things about Nomadic faction like how you play Huns and Hephtalites in Total War Attila
When you say bad factions I think of bad unit rosters not bad starting position. Starting position only really matters if you're playing at the wrong difficulty level based on your skills. Even the hardest starts can be easily overcome by bad players if they play on normal/easy, it's when bad players try to play hard starts on very hard/legendary that they run into problems, and that's their fault for picking the wrong difficulty not the faction with a hard start being weak.
When I first picked up Rome 2 Total War I also got all the faction packs and stuff. The first faction I played was the Ardei(?), the apparently worst faction on this list. But in this list you only take into account their land units. But their sea units are much more powerful in the beginning of the game, so much so I conquered two other settlements in the first five turns. By that time I had researched some good land unit techs, making my land units more powerful so then I could take the capital city of my province. It took two armies, almost completely stacked (20/20 and 17/20 I think) but we managed to take it. At that point in the game I just settled down so I could further improve both my army and fleet, so much so I was able to rival Rome but managed to secure a peace treaty and alliance shortly after (I nick named this playthrough the Ocean Romans)
I agree, the Ardiaei are tricky but good diplomacy with neighbour states like the greek ones and taking Apolonia from Epirus gives a good boost. However, I failed to resist Rome since they had completely taken over Carthage and the rest of enemies... Took too long for me to get a good economy
Pergamon for campaign is actually OP! That building bonus allows you to build your buildings fast as hell. Allowing you to get garrison and easily defendable settlements. This mixed with proper diplomacy with fellow Greeks allows a straight shot at Anatolia. Actually had my fastest campaign win with this faction maybe 50 turns.
Something I would agree about Boromir Total War is one does not simply charge into pikes, the best you can do it simply walk into it if you wanna hold them in the place.
Don't remind me of Rome 2. More attila videos! :P JK, good video! Your editing's getting way better! Like way way better. Since Darren's gone, I'd say you're the best quality channel on youtube, along with Maximus Decimus Meridius
SPLegoStudios This is the gate to Attila top 5's! haha. Thanks for the kind words! :) (Don't forget about THFE though, and it depends on what you want to watch haha)
RainTheRobloxian They make Let's Plays and online battles respectively, not exactly what i prefer. Quality for me is edited HD videos that teach you things and provide the most entertainment for me time. However preferences change from person to person :)
0:47 for sure not the way its shown on the video. U just keep the siege and wait till defenders attack. The otger way is to use artillery to destroy the walls first. Dont discredit factions that u just cant play. Nomads in fact are extremly strong because of horse archers.
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but what's the music track in this video called? Some of it sounds a lot like the music played during the World Wonders cinematics in Rome 1.
Hey TWZ, could you explain to a noob what the difference between sword and axe units are? I had always just assumed axe units were (typically) weaker sword units.
+Justin S Yes! Damage inflicted by sword units is mostly base non-armour piercing damage. Axe Infantry however deals a lot more armour piercing damage, making them very good against heavily armoured targets. Axe units usually kill quicker because of this, but often have lower defence or other stats.
Lusitani Good thought Even you want a real hard fight on the enemies the morale of the units is too damn high like a legionnaire with a superior cavalry
alexww180 really? Sparta is a really easy campagin. Rome basicly are at war with literally everybody, go conquer greece, the turn westward. Take magna gracia first assuming rome has taken sicilly and cut them in half. Left one army for defense and use your navy with another army and conquer sicilly. With spartan hoplite and pikemen, its very easy.
In my game of Rome the Ardiaei managed to conquer all of Greece, (but they did loose there capital to Sparta, and most of the factions in Greece were destroyed by wars with factions to the north and Sparta, so when the Ardiaei took over Greece) only a few turns later, they faced a civil war and they were conquered by Me (Rome) in 5 turns
Royal Syachian in campign you use young axe as infranty and back them up with cav is op. and then at city battle rush gate then rush all ur cav boy in and finish the city
Got into this game about 6 months ago. Started playing as Sparta (Finished WoS and started a Grand Campaign) and found that they are pretty OP even when playing on Very Hard difficulty. Yes, no swords is a bit bad, but that's what cavalry is for.
i dont think it matters if a faction is shit... makes the game even harder and if you can play good tactics and still conquer the entire map... then you my friend are a true leader.... i get tired of being good factons, hence why i like playing with a weaker faction, the odds are stacked against you but if your not good enough then might aswell just stay with the strongest faction.... think of it like battlefield if your shit, then why you even playing the game but if your amazing and can do some insane shit you get called a hacker... none of the campaigns are impossible.. all about being smart and putting time and effort in, knowing how to overcome enemys and cities at a time whilst defending your lands from rebels its really simple
I think if you only have cav units to seige a wall you must have a altillary to break through the walls or you could seige until they surrender their base. For me, this is what I can think of the easiest way to destroy a fortifide castle. The disadvabtage of this is if the enemy have reserves that will be a reiforcement to the main army.
Yeah, I've hardly played campaigns as anything other than Rome, but all of these guys are folks I easily steamrolled every time so, I'd say this is a fair list.
I enjoy playing as Cyprus. It's definitely a challenge, but I love their Royal Infantry which will help you out greatly in the late game when Egypt or the Seleucids come over to play.
I play Epirus for the "This is total war" achievement seems as though Pyhrus would be the type to declare war on everyone. He did fight Romans, Carthaginians, Greeks settled in Scilly, Spartans, Macedonians. Shame how he died though knocked off his horse by a women throwing a roof tile.
Hey, can I ask what mod you used for the rome 2? It looks like the graphics look excellent, much better than mine, although I also have the ultra setting. Or I am assuming you were using some best monitor, can we have some information on that? Thanks.
***** Thanks for your instant reply. So I guess it maybe the reason of monitor. Can I ask which brand and model of monitor you were using for gaming and recording?
***** Just went to test my game, still not so good in graphics. Anyway, thanks so much for your answer. Really like your total war videos. Subscribed already. Looking forward to more going on about attila.
Spartans weren't the super soldiers legend painted them to be. In fact, history teaches us, that they were better politicians than they were soldiers. Spartans were an average army with decent military training, and while they had their own traditions, they didn't rise to prominence until after Thermopylae. After Thermopylae, they turned their Valiant Defeat around, and rewrote it as a victory, using political cunning to paint themselves as an all powerful force- requiring hundreds of thousands, just to take on 300, when it was terrain that saved them from being swamped in the battles opening. Eventually, due to them selling this idea that they were Super Soldiers, they increased their martial prowess and training, trying to come close to what we see in comics and movies. Basically, our idea of Spartans is extremely over-exaggerated by Myth, Legends, and History being written by the Victor. Before long, Spartans became Pariahs and Sparta became a place where rich and powerful Romans would visit, to vacation and watch 'Super Soldiers' train. Their downfall was their own legend. This isn't to say that Spartans did not have a rich culture, and weren't well trained in maintaining a Phalanx. They were just not that great. Especially when you compare them to the Roman Army
Funfact: Epirus legendary was the shortest legendary campaign I ever played. Win after 76 turns. Simply conquered Thrakia and the lands around, boosted my economy and bought the win by buying military alliances with all the greek factions. Only played legendary Ardiaei with DeI mod, was relatively easy, but then the "AI" doesnt know how to do shit in this game so everything is pretty easy as long as you dont play vs other players.
I was expecting the Helvetii to go down easy...They killed 3 generals and took a city (my best generals) and the worst part is every time they would throw their general at me who was an oaths worth and they'd take down 100 attackers each time I had them surrounded with nearly 400 troops (about 200 were skirmishers that ran out of ammo [it was a seige and getting in was hard]) and they still managed to make 3 units route and the rest nearly unusable.
So we're going to ignore the fleet based units and the factions' affects in the campaign that help make them be "good"? That's just my thoughts and that may be just me, but I'm just saying.
ardiaei are hard to play , but they are not the worst faction ... pergamon is ... ardiaei has great noble hoplites ( you can field 5 or 6 in multiplayer battle : on standard 11 700 funds ) , they have great and cheap illyrian thureos spears (with cav counter tactics , precursor javellines and square formation for only 360) and they have axemen (those guys can do a ton of damage if you know how to use them : when they act as a support shock unit for noble hoplites thats a deadly combo) shure their cav is crap but i dont bring more then 2 units ... and im not sending them to fight enemy cav ... i save them for later to kill slingers or archers , or cheap skirmishers they struggle against better peltasts so i just use thureos or some other cheap unit to chase those of)
Ardiaei aren't that bad. Combining their hoplites with their marines is a pretty good strategy. The hoplites nullify any charge your opponents have with their expert charge defense and hoplite wall. The enemies will usually outflank the hoplites, allowing the marines to loose their javelins and help the hoplites. They have some decently cost effective cavalry in the form of mercenary tarantines which can keep factions with more heavy cavalry busy.
I do know this video is 6 years old but I still have to say when I start as Rome I attack aridaei because they are weak and with auxiliary camp you can get raiders to get more money on raiding and you can use them in land battles to ambush enemy
The fact that all you have is cavalry doesnt mean you can't siege a city? While they do have very powerful infantry it is entirely possible to siege a city as The Huns with only cavalry units in Attila total war and I have done so many times.
Have you seen Lionhearts odrysian campaign. One of the best Rome II campaigns I've ever seen and you actually became attached to the charactars and generals
Eoin Meenaghan Yep, the fact that a faction is bad doesn't mean that you can't have fun with it! His playtrough was also pre-patch and he used a unit mod.
I disagree with Ardeiea being number 1 choice sure they have bad cav and melee but multiplayer wise Noble hoplites are one of the most cost effective hoplite units in game and win battles. They have celtic warriors which are the best low tier sword units in the game and they have Illryian marines and Illyrian thureos spears which are very decent peltast/spear hybreeds. So from a multiplayer perspective i dont think they are that bad but i would have to agree with their campaign beibg shit unless you use mods
Very biased... Just because you cannot develop a playstyle for a faction doesn't make it a bad faction. Full cavalry armies can be amazingly versatile... An army that is 2/3 (or indeed full) mounted archers can easily beat an army two or three times its size if you micro your units. Also you seem to dislike using hoplite/phalanx focused armies, that doesn't make them bad objectively. Sparta is a bit too specialised, but Epirus and Pergamon are some of the more balanced and versatile Greek factions in that compared to most other Hellenics they have much more access to decent unit types outside of phallanx infantry. This more than makes up for weak starting position.
“Spears can’t win battles”
*autoresolve*

Lol with sparta i conquered the whole Greece, destroy Athens and the Macedonia.
Is there a hard campaign for Rome 2 though? Seriously asking because the most fun I get is playing Rome because it's the easiest because slightly challenging enough to be obnoxious isn't entertaining.
Ben Wall try colchis. everyone hates you and hoplites cost a lot so you have to make things with eastern spearmen and slingers
Here is how you take the walls with cav only factions. Unmount your units...
NochalNTTS nope
Why not?
+NochalNTTS "one does not simply dismount their units"
+Steely Eyes Make 20 unit card stacks and auto resolve everything
+NochalNTTS Yeah but cav units tend to have less soldiers per unit than non cav units. 60 missile cav where you might get 90 per infantry. Also, can they even build siege stuff? I don't remember how that works.
Epirus _is_ extremely difficult *unless* you take Athens immediately. Taking Athens sounds difficult, but all you need to do is:

I'll try that.
Ouroboros612 It's an Opinion but I agree.

ardaei navy is amazing. you can build OP ships in the first turns have extra raiding income. I just raid in the Adriatic sea any get stacks. it's fun

Ardiaei have good hopliters and i have taken over the balkan and more with ardiaei
What's funny is that most of these so called "worst" factions are greek factions
Yeah but the guy doesn't like spears so it makes sense he'd target those.
All of my best campaigns were with the Greeks.
tophholland lol same here i kicked good ass as Sparta.
+Santiago Gutierrez my main faction in multiplayer is epirus
@PYRRHUS ok, but campaign wise epirus is terrible, all its neighbors wanna kill them. Combined with the worst starting position and a horrible economy, they are the worst greek state in the campaign.

@F Con it's like a tax for being a freak and got laughed at. I've just bought the Black Sea Colonies (at a key code web) and I feel scammed.

Top 5 Factions that were Not Added in Attila.
5.Frissi tribe
4.The Heruli tribe - Odoaker was from the heruli tribe.
3.The White Huns - they runsacked the Sassanids in Baktria.
2.The Red Huns - they runsacked the Sassanids in Baktria.
If they were in the Game the Sassanid Campaign would have been Fun.In vannila righ now you got only ERE
1.The Bulgarians - they were the main allies of the huns since 370s
i think the best missile unit in attila are the Germanic archers, they are the best in my opinion
yep, please make similar one for the attila if you have some time. Thanks
Love this series!
I think Sparta is great I took all of Greece so quickly as them
Same here their campaign is easy
+William Newton Every campaign in Rome 2 is easy, haha.
Haha true
Also pikes and hoplites are better than people say
+Ajgurms Gurman hoplites are good, pikes not, pikes=garbage
For me Rome got rekt by Carthage in my campaign.
Lord Shiteblast use cheat engine to booat economy. . lol
Play with DeI mod and they are great. Well, to be fair, whole game is a lot better with DeI.
+NERD IT UP This includes multiplayer (battles) I believe. Pergamon *usually* (
Arctic022 ah maybe multiplayer I can see that. In campaign they are solid.
NERD IT UP
Agreed, they are extremely balanced in campaign and have (in my opinion) a great starting location.
+Arctic022 мдаа война с селевкидами галатией мало войск на выбор😤😡😾
NERD IT UP pergamon gets destroyed on multilayer tho
Epirus?! They're a good faction! All that was is a bad case of "Get good".
Same with Sparta. They have good units and good starting position. They just need to hoplite better lol
Oof.
Actually the bad starting posititon doesn't make the faction worse.
Epirus is the most balanced greek faction
they dont have that good of swords, cause the royal peltasts are just wierd
No macedon
nonsense, just use catapults to destroy walls+towers, and plenty of archers/javs to pick off best soldiers on walls.
even better, target wall sections with archers using your catapults, especially those with enemy archers+jav, and then use your own archers+jav to whittle down enemy.
TheMasterpinki Makedon is the best greek faction, very good mix of elite troops
@@dimi2187 macedon sucks.

5. Would be excessive ( given the 8 preexisting germanic tribes )

NEXT EPISODE: "The Top 5 BEST MISSILE UNITS in Total War: ATTILA!" (including missile cavalry)
Which unit should definitely be in the list? Reply to this comment for a chance to be in these videos.
Elite Ballistari. Like a machine gun nest when being charged and equipped with Heavy Shot.
Ravenna elite ballistari
One of the most powerful missile in the game, can punch through anything
***** Persian Archers, very spammable, great range, decent damage.
Barbed skirmishes. If you want the top 3 best skirmish units in the game all you have to do is look to the Burgundians.
Thomas Edwards I'm playing a Burgundian campaign myself so I know what you mean. ^^
Epirus is only hard initially. Once you've grown your roots with them it's easy because there army is so good!
Massilia ? They got some celtic units and greco-celtic ones. I actually enjoy to wreck Rome with them.
Horse Archers hit n run goes bbbrrrr
YES!!!!
I think the only way for me to win a Rome II battle is to play as a nomad. I love Horse Archers!
bruh i conquered entire map with roxolani 2 times, their cavarly is so good. for the cities that are surrounded by walls you can just do autoresolve
I was looking this video while hearing "Viking Gods" and on 0:21 of the video there was a snowstorm and the song was saying "Rise in the storm".
CK2 feels.
Sparta in quick match is really good with the set up I got going... haven't lost while using it yet... and I love the campaign for them too :/
lol Sparta was the easiest campaign, even quicker than Rome
Sparta is a amazing for defense it holds like a stone wall
I played with Epirus 2 months and I finally win.
These are all the factions that control the late game in my Rome play through.
Yeah. Pergamon has become one of the biggest A.I. factions in the head-to-head MP game I've been playing.
Sparta is a great faction I conquerd rome athens macedonia and epirus with just my Pikemen
I play sparta alot, u just have to slowly push ahead with ur hoplites and use the helot archers for support

JK, good video!
***** Yeah i forgot about him - his videos are really good quality too, however I'm not too into the online battles, don't watch him much anymore :)
what about lionheartx10 and Prince_of_Macedon :L
RainTheRobloxian They make Let's Plays and online battles respectively, not exactly what i prefer. Quality for me is edited HD videos that teach you things and provide the most entertainment for me time. However preferences change from person to person :)
0:47 for sure not the way its shown on the video. U just keep the siege and wait till defenders attack. The otger way is to use artillery to destroy the walls first. Dont discredit factions that u just cant play. Nomads in fact are extremly strong because of horse archers.
Man how do i get the additional factions in total war rome 2 such as pergamon, odrysian Kingdom etc 2020?
Buy the DLCs.
Beimg surrounded by enemies needn't be a problem. It can mean quick early expansion if you play skillfully.
Derpamon?
I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but what's the music track in this video called? Some of it sounds a lot like the music played during the World Wonders cinematics in Rome 1.
Rome: Total War- Contemplation
use merceneries for sparta for good support
sparta is good in the grand campaign imo. once you win battles you just put all your army points and general abilities into spear damage
the next historical title needs 6+ player campaign playing head to head with multiple people would be amazing.
Sparta? Just recruit 20 hops and victory is yours!
The dutch accent is strong in this one
lol :D
the ca mede the ardiei too weak, without swordsman carring sicas and missile troops. I don't really know why
No such ting in a total war game Worst or Good:Faction, Units,Starting Position, every Nation , Units have Strengths and Weaknesses
Ye but se have to little strength and to many weakness
Hey TWZ, could you explain to a noob what the difference between sword and axe units are? I had always just assumed axe units were (typically) weaker sword units.
+Justin S Yes! Damage inflicted by sword units is mostly base non-armour piercing damage. Axe Infantry however deals a lot more armour piercing damage, making them very good against heavily armoured targets. Axe units usually kill quicker because of this, but often have lower defence or other stats.
+Total War Zone Wow, I had it totally wrong. What roles do swordsmen have advantage over axemen then? Thanks for the info!
Lusitani Good thought Even you want a real hard fight on the enemies the morale of the units is too damn high like a legionnaire with a superior cavalry
I took all of Europe with Sparta, on Legendary
Csanad121 wow those are some skills doe
i barely conquered italy with rome after 100 turns
alexww180 really?
Royal Syachian in campign you use young axe as infranty and back them up with cav is op. and then at city battle rush gate then rush all ur cav boy in and finish the city
how die you make that with Sparta in campaign?
Got into this game about 6 months ago. Started playing as Sparta (Finished WoS and started a Grand Campaign) and found that they are pretty OP even when playing on Very Hard difficulty.
Yes, no swords is a bit bad, but that's what cavalry is for.
I've beaten an expensive roman army with praetorians as the Ardiae, sometimes it's the brain controlling the units, not the units themselves.
i dont think it matters if a faction is shit... makes the game even harder and if you can play good tactics and still conquer the entire map... then you my friend are a true leader.... i get tired of being good factons, hence why i like playing with a weaker faction, the odds are stacked against you but if your not good enough then might aswell just stay with the strongest faction.... think of it like battlefield if your shit, then why you even playing the game but if your amazing and can do some insane shit you get called a hacker... none of the campaigns are impossible.. all about being smart and putting time and effort in, knowing how to overcome enemys and cities at a time whilst defending your lands from rebels its really simple
How about a shitload of ballistas, And archer cavalry for royal scythia?
I enjoy playing as Cyprus. It's definitely a challenge, but I love their Royal Infantry which will help you out greatly in the late game when Egypt or the Seleucids come over to play.
Can you play as Cyprus?Or you got them from the mod
@@luciusartoriuscastus3960 I got them from Nordo's Faction Unlocker mod. It unlocks all non-dlc factions for play.
@@dr.faraday6447 Ιs this mod only available on Steam?Because i have Rome 2 cracked..
How can you be With Pergamon? Or Massilia or cimmeria? You cant play With them in Emperor Edition
grand campaign? (not augustus campaign)
Thanks.
Ricky Chen I'm not sure. I am not using any mods in this video, unit details are on extreme, same goes for anti-alias and textures.
***** Thanks for your instant reply. So I guess it maybe the reason of monitor. Can I ask which brand and model of monitor you were using for gaming and recording?
Ricky Chen Sure, I'm using a LG 23EN43, pretty standard stuff tbh :p
***** Just went to test my game, still not so good in graphics. Anyway, thanks so much for your answer. Really like your total war videos. Subscribed already. Looking forward to more going on about attila.

Theres a difference between “worst factions” and hard factions just because a faction is hard to play as doesn’t mean theyre the worst
I think if you upgrade sparta and take the right lands they become really powerful
Eli Sorrells yeah same
Funfact: Epirus legendary was the shortest legendary campaign I ever played.
What's sad is that the Ardieis soldiers look super cool, with the spiraled chest plates and the blue and gold theme, but they just aren't that good.
As a Total War Attila players, using Calvary to takes fortified settlement is not a big issue
So we're going to ignore the fleet based units and the factions' affects in the campaign that help make them be "good"? That's just my thoughts and that may be just me, but I'm just saying.
dutch accent?
+Jesper te Riet Yes yes very nice
The most Dutch English accent I ever heard 😁
That was dutch? I thought he has middle eastern
ardiaei are hard to play , but they are not the worst faction ... pergamon is ...
ardiaei has great noble hoplites ( you can field 5 or 6 in multiplayer battle : on standard 11 700 funds ) ,
they have great and cheap illyrian thureos spears (with cav counter tactics , precursor javellines and square formation for only 360)
and they have axemen (those guys can do a ton of damage if you know how to use them : when they act as a support shock unit for noble hoplites thats a deadly combo)
shure their cav is crap but i dont bring more then 2 units ... and im not sending them to fight enemy cav ... i save them for later to kill slingers or archers , or cheap skirmishers
they struggle against better peltasts so i just use thureos or some other cheap unit to chase those of)
Ardiaei aren't that bad.
Te nomads uses infantry in campain :/
When your faction flag is on the thumbnail
what are your graphical settings? your gameplay looks pretty smooth and i have problems with stuttering. very nice video btw :)
+Razzie HKS Thanks, Radeon HD 7970 3GB, 8 GB Ram, Intel i5 3470.
The fact that all you have is cavalry doesnt mean you can't siege a city? While they do have very powerful infantry it is entirely possible to siege a city as The Huns with only cavalry units in Attila total war and I have done so many times.
You can also turn it around, "Top 5 factions to play if you whant a challange" ;) I prefere Epirus.

***** I wasn't complaining about its selection in the top5 but just mentioning! :)
How do you play half of these factions
I disagree with Ardeiea being number 1 choice sure they have bad cav and melee but multiplayer wise Noble hoplites are one of the most cost effective hoplite units in game and win battles. They have celtic warriors which are the best low tier sword units in the game and they have Illryian marines and Illyrian thureos spears which are very decent peltast/spear hybreeds. So from a multiplayer perspective i dont think they are that bad but i would have to agree with their campaign beibg shit unless you use mods
how did u unlock all faction
Saba should be in the top 5 worst factions in rome 2
On defense, sparta is amazing
Funny thing is that spartans used short sword in their engagements..
Some factions in Rome 2 probably will make people think overhaul or if they have enough money Mercenary Armies if the mercenaries are available
I like Epirus just for the challenge but at the same time having a decent roster and a good variety of units
Ummmm Sparta is a weak faction? Are you insane the hoplites are probably one of the most powerful units in the game if you use the phalanx effectively
Won twice with Epirus (campaigns)...
