My tip, dont quit a match early just because you're losing. Ive seen some of the greatest come backs in this game so its never over till the very end. Leaving early screws over any team mates and generally makes everyone else feel that you were wasting their time. Its also ok to lose, its the best way to learn and get better.
My full army was 3/10 chance of winning against the enemies coastal town defense. They crushed my Perioikoi phalanx lines due to their insane amount of archers but their archers used most of their ammo and they only had a shit ton of full militia infantry and archer mobs. My last unit was a full general Royal spartans and I was completely circled. Still was victorious and verbal survived.
@@derk3933 i understand the logic and I know rule breakers fucking suck, but honestly I've found rule breakers usually just are bad at the game hence why they break rules and are still easy to beat. Makes it more satisfying to defeat them anyways lol
Tip for artillery crews : When you select your Artillery, hold ALT, the game will give you an exact AOE of where the rocks/boulders will land, helping you better aim for choke points and big blobs. That one trick almost doubled the amount of kills my artillery gets per battle, its insane.
My tip is to always use Balista ships in your navy. If you manually aim them, you are usually garunteed to win battles even with massive odds. Best for dealing with armies at sea as they have big, unarmoured boats.
Exactly. Most of the ships ballistas in the back, few of velites and infantry in the front to be the wall and to taran enemies. Total horse of death to transport ships
Bit late, but a whole ballista stack fleet with manual aiming will win over a two enemy fleets. Unless they are all heavy ships which I haven't encountered yet, from AI at least. When they reach you about 2/3 or 3/4 of their ships are gone, and the rest of them are easily destroyed by ramming.
I have 750 hours on Rome 2 and i Always hated fighting in the forests because of the f4cking trees. This control F trick saved my Life. Thank You Brother, from Italy❤🇮🇹
My tip is to install a stat mod that shows all the hidden stats of units so anything subtle like falxmen ignoring shield armour or cataphract armour being weak to missiles gets shown. I don't play Rome 2 multiplayer myself but knowing all the quirks have helped me in other games.
I actually didn't know that but the falx does make sense that was one of the reasons the falx was designed that way, to go around or more preferably over the shield and punching into the old brain pan, this actually made the Romans increase their helmet standards.
Does it show speed stat as well? In a tactical battlefield sim, i find it crazy that speed is not shown in base game. Its honestly shockingly bad, considering how important it can be
Be alert to this and use the classic bait and switch if you have two cav units use one to trick them firing at your bait cav which you can pull away for the javs to miss and land in the ground. While you use the other with a slight delay to commit to the charge while the enemy rank “reload their jav”. Alternatively if you see that they can punish you for making a frontal charge better to move around and go for a rear charge. Just make sure you can win the cav fight.
Good way to fix that is using elevation but I agree frontal charges are never good even with the best cav units and the cheapest of levy can wreck them sometimes if formed correctly. Best to just use elevation so they cannot get fire at will javelins off
My tip to everyone is to most of the time take out the formation from units like hoplites or legionaries in open battles when you want kills and not to defence
Yeah exactly they will slowly envelope an enemy unit if formationed wider than them or if the enemy unit is in formation attack and you aren’t your units can get flanking values on one singular unit or again envelope them. Well said man
The hold formation is for defence, you put every unit out of formation when you want them to actually kill the enemy unit rather than hold ground. This is pretty basic function of TW.
Towers can't reveal troops. When using guerillia units (e.g. illyrian raiders) in a siege of a walled city, get them inside the city. This way you can capture points and towers as long as they are hidden (cheers to silly AI)... already won battles mainly by just moving 4 guys to the main plaza, picking out the general and just wait until timer runs out.
*My tip* If your playing a strong missile faction like Seleucid, Cimmeria, Kush or even Scythia (vanilla Scythia is shit unless you have mods), make sure you shoot at a spear or sword units on their *Sword Side,* (right hands) it deals much more damage compared to shooting their *Shield Side* (left hands).
I have a theory about why horses go through your own men easy when facing each other....because the infantry can see them coming so they obviously politely step left / right to let them pass.....but if your cavalry go through them from behind, the men advancing on foot can't see them so horsemen have to slow down and say "excuse me, excuse me, pardon me, coming through," and the infantry obviously can't see them from behind so take longer to make way for them
Also the time Where they are passing is shorter when they have opposite directions. Its like on a highway, which car will pass you faster. The one in faster lane overtaking you or the one in opposite direction at the same speed
fun tip for custom battling with your friends: if you load a setup with a different faction and atleast 1 empty unit slot and spam click a unit on your screen from the faction you are currently and it will select that unit into your new setup right before it loads in.
This also works for bringing field artillery on defense. In the lobby start on attacking team, click switch teams then spam click the field arty quick before it switches you and then you get field arty on defense.
As for my life hack the regular shot on the bigger arty is insane against cav like 1 shot kills 5 or more riders thats many times more damage than what you could do to infantry. The camera thing is not cheesy everyone does it in warhammer and there are many guides on how to do it simply a case of something that people did not realize in the past but then quickly picked up. The spaghetti lines are mostly so powerful because you can still form multiple ranks behind each other but when cavalry hits them the units at the back will continue throwing their pila and obliterate the cav it also makes it easier to charge thru such a thin line with your cav. They are still much weaker than what they used to be because you can only do them with legionary type units and they dont have high charge bonus which was the main thing why everyone used them since a wider unit means more dudes can hit with the charge bonus still active. Don't use dogs a competent enemy will just put a infantry unit or a melee cav inbetween the horse skirmishers and the dogs and you wont get your money back.
Hey man, i just recently started playing total war and your vids has teached me a LOT thank you . This was a very helpfull video aswell thanky you agian. Im so sorry to hear about your dog. May she rest in peace.
My tip is , in siege battles when u are in defensive and the enemy have siege towers is to abandon the walls and just protect the places from where the enemy will come down, reason 1 is u will keep the machine gun like tower to help u kill the enemy faster and u will keep many enemy troops in the walls just using 1 unit , reason number 2 since the IA is kinda noob it will try to protect its troops from the tower fire facing it with their shield leaving their flank without shield and since they are in side of the wall without cover and they are a mass off enemies is easy win kill for u archers :D
When moving a unit into an enemy's flank, disable the "formation attack" button (it looks like a square with an X through it) so that your units will crowd in and attack unimpeded by where they were in the formation.
So sorry for your dog bro :( She looks so sweet! I bet she's in dog heaven now getting lots of treats (horse archers) :( Thanks for the tips! I've played rome for like 1000 hours but most of it was campaign. I keep getting clapped in mp. I'm trying to improve and these tips are great!
Pikes go through walls and barricades, so in encampment stance, block the entrance with the barricades and put pikes behind it, as well as behind wooden walls. This way you can kill a lot of units while barely losing anything.

A língua foi uma grande barreira. Mas ainda sou Noob. Mas não me importo, total war é um grande escape para os problemas do cotidiano, me ajuda a relaxar e me diverte muito.
My tip is when invading from sea and you have artillery ships, don’t waste ammo on a pre invasion barrage, instead use it as a creeping barrage placing them behind your infantry units you are sending to disembark, that way you have a wall of artillery between the enemy and your beach head, just be careful if enemy charges through it not to bombard friendlies
My tip is in a siege battle on attack, make sure your area is clear and then move your army forward as one and keep a steady supply of troops going forward
When using shock cavalry, they are strong when they charge and hit, but then they should fall back.. is there a way to avoid lots of them being held back by any enemy soldier? Cus honestly unless is cataphract.. I lose 20/30% in every charge. But if I leave the shock cavalry in there just fighting hand to hand they get more kills and survive more. (For archers and light units I just use light cavalry)

Wouldnt it be a good tactic to push forward and with double click the enemy back (with hoplites in hoplite wall) and then if they created a gap (or the enemy starts to run in your back trough the gap) you just rush trough the gap with your cav and in the back OR rush with your cav in the back from the enemys that tried to attack you in the back since you pushed other units forward and created the gap. You know what i mean? 😂
If you want your pikes to not die to ranged, simply move another unit on top of them. This is called pike stacking and is often used in competitive. Also play gallic rome for easy wins
I have used that tactic in Attila with visigothic pikemen, with warriors just before them, beetween the pikes. It works quite well, and locking them as formation is also an interesting option
