I watched too many golf videos in the past 5 years. I rate Danny Maude as the topmost golf video personality for teaching all the fundamental body mechanics for a good swing (especially for a senior like me who started playing golf late in life). Danny also has great personality, energy and love of golf. It shows. Thank you so much, Danny.

I’ve watched many of your videos. After playing golf for 30 years, having gone to GOLFTEC, worked with top PGA professionals, I believe you are one of the most entertaining and pragmatic teachers I’ve seen. I truly enjoy you them and this is the first time ever I’ve written a comment on TH-cam. Great work!

Danny, this video is a few years old, but thanks so much for it. I worked with a Jimmy Ballard instructor for a long time when I lived in the states, and this is all totally consistent with the old Ballard drills of putting the club shaft on your trail hip (I’m left handed) and practicing turning to the target, plus using simple athletic motions like tossing a ball to a target to groove the exact release you are talking about. I am off 14.3 but watched your video before playing Salgados in Portugal yesterday and shot an 81 with a silly three-putt double bogey at the last. The feeling of “unscrewing the jar” is just magic and all clubs with added power and consistency just by freely releasing to the target as if tossing a ball. Thanks so much and will be sure to follow more of your instruction!

    Danny,
I really love how inventive and simple you make things. I struggle getting up on my left side. I've been trying to slide forward and down and rotate my hips. Result is sore hips. Using the pressure in the feet and allowing the body to move in reaction is brilliant. I really like the idea of incorporating a waggle type swing starter emphasizing a feeling you want to get to as a finish and focusing on the target not the ball. Thanks for trying so many ways to connect with us. Rich - handicap 12 USA

Absolutely the best video for duffers that I have ever seen. I have struggled to open my hips (unsuccessfully), hitting 200-300 balls a day in my simulator. Frustration doesn't begin to describe how I feel. Finally an explanation that makes sense. And yes, my swing is MUCH better when I have a target than when I try to do the range "as far as I can" routine. I am now encouraged. Sure wish Mr. Maude lived in Canada !

If you’re near him, Shawn Clements is in Ontario. He has his students focus on the target too. Different approach to instruction, but same goal. Might be more technical than you want - Danny Maude is perhaps more a simple direct how-to approach.

Hi Danny, this is my first post to any of your video clips. Like all golf fanatics I search for ways to improve my swing. I have been a subscriber to various TH-cam golf instructors looking for the secret, but have made little, if any, improvement. Until I started watching you instructional videos I thought I was drowning in inconsistent detail. What I enjoy most about your teaching method is the consistency of your coaching message, at least to me. Width, take away, impact, follow though, power all stemming from a freedom of movement driven from the ground up. That message comes across to me in all the videos I have watched, it just seems to make sense to me. I look forward to following your TH-cam channel in the future.

I didn't know who Matthew Wolff is, but thanks to you, now I do. What an interesting swing. I think his pre-swing ditty is more of a set up trigger, rather than a hip turn drill. What impressed me the most was how much he lifts his left foot (heel), and all his body motion. When I do this, my golf mates scold me. I get much more hip turn when I do it correctly - and that's the rub. I tend to sway and lose my spine angle. When I do it correctly, resetting my left heel is the trigger for sequencing. I also noticed that Matt bends his left arm, which increases his back swing. This is something else I've worked on. When I do it correctly, my left arm straightens at impact, and the club face is square again.
I like your jar lid analogy, but for me the best analogy to understand Matt's body motion is coiling and uncoiling a spring. When the spring coils, it gets shorter. Matt has a lot of knee bending that allow him to coil his body more in the backswing, causing him to squat. And when the wound-up spring is suddenly released, it briefly gets longer than the spring at rest before it snaps back to the starting position (law of physics about opposite and equal reaction). As Matt uncoils, he practically jumps off the ground. These are my first impressions after watching videos of him, but it's definitely worth more study. For someone athletic, it can add tremendous power. But even for someone old and stiff (like me), it can add more flexibility when done correctly - again, that's the rub. Thanks for another great lesson, Danny. Enjoy the holidays, and all the best for the coming year.

Danny, Tried opening the hips on their own in the past - very weak motion. Tried your Jam Jar approach and it really works well - a lot more power starting from the feet and feels like I can get my whole body into the shot. Also like the suggestion to concentrate more on the target instead of fixating on the ball. Helluva good instructional video - Thank You !!
