I don't think he was underrated, the problem he had was Paul. George was always obliterated by McCharmy as John called Paul. Why? Maybe because he wanted to be The Beatles' boss. After he went solo, this triple All Things Must Pass came out. He'd been writing several songs of this album with the Beatles.
Joel Espedal, your remark was so incredibly witty: short, sweet, creative, concisely worded, and from a humourous point of view that is wasted on so many Sheeple. I just want for you to know that you just made a spectacular ending to a mundane day.
C F What ? Its just opinions, your and mine, - but Devils Radio and it’s knock on “gossip” throughout the song are masterful lyrics ! George Harrison is still one of the best lyricists of pop music and till this day ; he is without a doubt the Best Slide Guitarist, missed dearly by family & fans, and unmatched by anyone.else.
To love a friend is: - convince a friend who doesn't like to play live, to go on tour - put your band at his disposal - stay six feet behind him, in the dark, playing your guitar just to back him up. :)
To also love a friend is - To agree to his plans, despite having not toured in 16 years, because you want to help that friend who has just suffered the tragic death of his infant son and you know that performing music will help him during that hard time.
Thank you for this. I remember making my parents watch this so that I could impress upon them how much I wanted the surfers choice album for Christmas. I got it. Dick Dale truly was the king of Southern California at the time.
Zecom7, during the height of Beatlemania, George Harrison was always my favorite Beatle. He is unique of Spirit. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to to see him perform on three occasions: with The Beatles at DC Stadium; then, at both concerts For the People of Bangaladesh. What a beautiful Spirit! I was blessed to see George Harrison perform live on three momentous occasions. The absolute thrill of my life!
Why wasn't this a huge hit? I guess because it was the '80s and there was great music everywhere. I've always loved this song from Cloud 9! What a rocker!
ThinWhiteAxe I beg to differ. His early live vocal work with The Beatles was great. Listen to him opening the Beatles with Roll Over Beethoven. Great singing and playing at the same time
George is my favorite Beatle, and favorite artist! Thank you, so much for releasing more footage, so we can keep George's memory alive in our he 💗rts, while remembering & enjoying his artistry!! 💗 to you George, Olivia and Dhani!
I love this better than the studio version as well thanks to Eric’s backup singers, and Eric’s guitar playing I like a lot better than the studio version.
George always made sure his great friend and brother Clapton played a major role in everything they did together. Great love between these two guitarists. Harrison was one of the most self-deprecating and humble people in entertainment.
What I like about Eric Clapton is he never tried to show up George. He actually liked being a backup player. Something that probably sat well with George. I see why that was one of the reason's they got along so good. Apart from them being Husband in laws.
@Anthony Pecora. Yes, he has had his share, that's for sure. I know he gave George his Red Gibson Les Paul, which George kept in his collection. Quite the guy to do that since he did love that guitar but he loved Georges friendship way more than a guitar. He also bought Jimi Hendrix a left handed Stratocaster for his birthday but Jimi died before he could give it to him. Classy guy. I heard that Clapton never really liked being a front-man & it took years before he felt ok with using his name, hence Derick & the Dominoes.
Devil's Radio issued on Cloud Nine is a futuristic song about what it was, what it is and what is going to be the gossip around the planet. Very important song written by George which make us meditate about Evil and Good. Thank you, George. Love you forever..! And thanks to all those great performers joining him in this magnificent Tour in Japan..! George will never die; I'm sure he's still on at the Heavenly Musicians' Organization (HMO)...
It's nice to watch the 2 best friends and great musicians play. This is Eric's lead. Eric is the blue master and George is the slide mastercrafstman. I've heard many imitate Clapton. Harrison on slide? Good luck! I've been trying 41 years.
I love every aspect of his growth as a songwriter. Melodies that are stunningly beautiful and lyrics that are so meaningful, funny and insightful. I remember buying 33 1/3 as a 14 year old in 1977. I loved every track on that LP.
George Harrison: to sum George up, he is surely a man of The Spirit... Still. The Spirit never dies, thus George Harrison lives on, and on, and on eternally. I only hope to be the best person that I can be; just like George Harrison. Perhaps, one day, I will have the privilege of thanking him for his positive influence. But, for now, George, rest in peace. Eighteen years is just a blink of an eye to not be earthbound, but it feels so long a time; yet I know that you are always here in Spirit that is ever palpable, George. Thank you for being George Harrison!
I love this song. It is the truth. Gossiping can do so much damage. It can ruin lives., especially if it isn't true. George is so cool to write a song about it. I am still jealous of that blond flirting with my true love.
I was 17 when the album "Cloud Nine" came out. It was the first one I bought with my own money (on vinyl!) and I listened to it so much. I heard "Got my mind set on you" on the radio and went to get the record right away. Now I don't even have a turntable to listen to it! :)
I was 17, also. It was great, because at that time I already loved him and have all his solo albums. And "Cloud Nine" was a sort of reinvention. "When We Was Fab" still gets me going...
I love George Harrison he was so handsome and he has such beautiful brown eyes and that smile of his could melt your heart love and miss you sweet george Harrison you are loved and missed tears are streaming down my face rest in peace

The problem with most music critics…never wrote or recorded one song. George’s biggest contribution was to allow John & Paul to contain him for the duration of The Beatles albums.

Nice to see Andy Fairweather who's led quite an unusual career from front man in a very successful 60's band, then solo performer and sometimes side man with people like Eric Clapton.
Bless you, George. The world is a better place because you lived in it.
The message of this song is even louder in the 21st century…
I think everybody was happy to play with George
Especially Clapton
I would loved to have played and sang with George. ❤️🌹❤️
I have to agree...
A very underrated member of the Beatles but his solo career really corrected that. Thank you for the music George. 😎🎸🎵

the whole concert should be uploaded, or remastered and released on dvd, bluray, vinyl, cd, cassette, all formats!.
George wasn't flashy but his melodic chords made it special.
George and Eric - one of the best combos ever!
You betcha, Rick Keogh!

Why wasn't this a huge hit? I guess because it was the '80s and there was great music everywhere. I've always loved this song from Cloud 9! What a rocker!
It was overshadowed by Got My Mind Set On You and When We Was Fab, which got most of the radio attention from Cloud Nine.
I definitely heard this song on the radio back when Cloud 9 was released.
George is the KING of guitar forever!
Seeing George and Eric together is a real example of forgiveness. After all that's what we are supposed display. Miss you, George.
George at his finest. This is a very underrated song.
Band sounds tight, George sounds amazing... he wasn't the strongest singer live, but he's in top form here.

Many great singers smoked a lot
George had problems during his Dark Horse tour but he had a great voice both live and in the studio.
Imagine suffering from heavy smoking and later dying of cancer...

CLOUD NINE. Incredible music.
What a tune! Melody and lyrics spot on. I miss you George.
If George was here to see he'd have some choice words to say about it and the world may be the better for it
George was around for a lot of the internet, just not TH-cam. He did an online chat in 2000/2001.
@Janetta Martin - True. He was around for the birth of social media, just not the abuse of it.
@Janetta Martin and MySpace?
Great performance of a great song - bandmembers were really enjoying themselves performing this number - RIP Georgie
You can tell he is as humble as man can be just by looking at his face.
His vocal was in wonderful shape here! Love the singing!
Just a perfect underrated song by a perfect underrated artist
I was waiting for the "underrated" word to pop up.
George always made sure his great friend and brother Clapton played a major role in everything they did together. Great love between these two guitarists. Harrison was one of the most self-deprecating and humble people in entertainment.
Well said, and very true!
Yeah he gave his wife also
Then why didn't George choose him to be a Traveling Wilbury?
@ Eric had his own stuff going, and never signed on to be a part of everything Harrison was doing . . . and vice versa.
@ The Wilbury’s just fell together. Serendipity, a happy accident. Unplanned. It wouldn’t’ have worked if they’d gone out recruiting.
"Magnificent". RIP George Harrison.
George’s last 2 Albums were Brilliant! He was at the top of his game. Of course ATMP was off the charts as well.
What I like about Eric Clapton is he never tried to show up George. He actually liked being a backup player. Something that probably sat well with George. I see why that was one of the reason's they got along so good. Apart from them being Husband in laws.
I would think it's great fun for EC to just be in the background and add solo's and fills like this. Lord knows he's had his share of the spotlight.

He said the title was how his mum used to refer to gossip, so it's not only futuristic but past too.
In the interview I read back in 1987 he said he got the idea from a billboard he saw once in America: "Gossip is the devil's radio."
