I was Blessed to see Roy live two times.. Including his last ever concert... yes.. so effortless , beautiful voice... I grew up listening to him.. incomparable.. God rest his soul
The miracle of this is that it came about via friendship. One night George discovered he had to write a song...one thing lead swiftly to the next and the next day ALL of these legends gathered in a garden and wrote the song, basically to help out, recording it in a garage. In one incredible day!
Roy had been through a decades-long dark period when this came along. What these guys gave him right before he died was an understanding of his rightful place...he was a great among the greats.
Roy had a lot of hardships and heartaches in his life. It was great to see him at the top again before he passed. One of the greatest singers who ever lived. Truly the voice of an angel.
B Miller ......an astute (and perfectly accurate) observation and a lovely comment. I’m old enough to remember Roy’s personal tragedies, he said his music helped him “cope”. Even throughout Roy’s musically “lean” years, the man was *always* loved in Australia and toured here often. Despite not having released new material much less enjoyed a “Hit” song in many years, his concerts invariably sold out and I think that speaks volumes.

George Harrison is the Beatle, Bob Dylan is the Nobel Prize winner, and Roy Orbison was declared the best voice by Elvis… Tom Petty is obviously Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne from ELO (who was also in this group) was great too!!
Whenever I think about the Traveling Wilburys, I think about the warm voices of George Harrison and Jeff Lynne, the warbling harmonies of Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, and of Roy Orbison’s voice hovering over all of theirs like an angel’s.
I kinda knew at the time how rare and magical and fortunate that grouping of insanely talented musicians was. I savor every minute of these songs, still. Just a totally unique, peak-of-a-lifetime musical experience.
my dad was 20 and he was like ugh all of these guys are so old and dated maybe this is desperate. Now he’s 5 years older than Roy was when he died lmao
@@milocibelli5391 lol I believe you. Now, imagine growing up in the 80's and hearing about this new band where George, Tom Perry and Bob Dylan were, plus the Electric Light Orchestra guy and the "Pretty Woman" guy from the 50's. That was trippy. And then realizing that all the songs on the record were top and you had no money to buy the record unless you don't buy food at school for a week.
The more I look at these artists together here for their first hit single, the more I have trouble understanding and believing it happened. Almost incomprehensible. Superb. Thank you.
The way this band was formed was so organic. It was just three of them chilling ( Harrison, Lynne and Orbison ) around a meal, then they go to Bob Dylan's studio because George was going to record a song there, but suddenly he remembers his guitar is at Tom Petty's house so he goes there and while he picks it up he invites Tom over. Over time George Harrison has become my favorite Beatle. He was a silent force within the legendary band and he brought people together like no one else.
Throwing fits ...walking out of a recording session, sleeping with a band members wife. These are not behaviors of a legendary force but those of an undisciplined and immature man. The legendary force for my money is Paul McCartney for both his musicianship and his self discipline.
For everything George had to endure being in the others shadow, it was usually him that brought everyone together to keep the band recording. Like bringing in Eric Clapton when the others wouldn’t get their act together on while my guitar gently weeps, or bringing in Billy Preston to the Let it Be sessions to get the guys to stop messing around and get back to making music. He meant so much to the Beatles.
I like that video! Five dudes (okay, five very famous dudes) stand around a microphone, strumming their guitars and singing - it's so simple and so great all in once! Only sad point is that there are only two of them still here today.
I don't think so I know Jeff Lynne, of ELO fame one of my favorite bands, don't even start me on Tom Petty, which he definitely produced the lovely Tom Petty and Heartbreakers greatest hits album. 👍🏾
The story of how this band came together and this song was written and recorded is incredible. All done in 2 days through George's friendships and musical genius.
Got to see jeff Lynnes ELO a couple years ago in Toronto and it was so Fantastic! Best part though? Was was when Dahni Harrison came out and did his dad's part of handle me with care.
The music and memories of my life and my loves. From teenage adulation to adult understanding. Weddings, births, deaths and a Bee Gee song to make every event unforgettable. Losing them is like losing a piece of my heart 💕
Perfect observation. No ego, no ulterior motives just having a good time and doing what they do best. Amazing how aura and feelings just drip right into the music, always amazed by that after over 50 years. When I listen to the Traveling Wilburys it brings back so many memories unlike any other "group". Talk about a super combination, WOW.
I cannot confirm it as fact, but I believe Elvis was once interviewed and asked, what it felt like having the greatest singing voice ever? Elvis relied... "I am not sure. Go and ask, Roy Orbison". Southern class and incredibly humble. I am 100% sure Elvis would have jumped in on this little sing along. " Without a song. The day will never end" My time will come to meet them. I hope!!
I agree with you but the R&R HOF has become a joke. When you have 5 rap stars in the Hall but ELP and Jethro Tull aren't, it's meaningless. Look how long it took the Moody Blues to be inducted (2018)).

This has got to be one of the best recordings ever made. The music. The lyrics, but above all the sound of those great voices. When Roy Orbison comes in, I just think you'll never hear a voice like his again, then shortly after when the rest join in, that harmony is beautiful. @@topaloco George carried Lennon and McCartney to a large degree, especially Lennon as Paul was admittedly pretty dang talented too. Who do you think taught John Lennon to play guitar? Had they treated him better the Beatles may never have broken up.
@@joshlight6892 George was a fantastic guitarist and musician, and while he was certainly taken for granted somewhat by his bandmates (and the fans) in the 1960s, he's pretty highly regarded in retrospect and admired universally. He's got a handful of amazing tunes that rank among the very best of all the Beatles (though he was really just beginning to hit his songwriting stride as the band was breaking up); however, it's patently absurd to suggest that he "carried" Paul and/or John, particularly in their early-to-mid-career, when Lennon was both the primary songwriter and unequivocal band leader, and George was clearly third fiddle in every respect. Let's give George his due, but take care not to so wildly overstate your case that you end up sounding simply ridiculous.
@@topaloco John Lennon had a bombastic personality and was certainly a great songwriter. And he learned a lot on the job instrumentally as well. But I don't believe the Beatles would have been as big as they were without George Harrison, and it was in large part because of issues with him they wound up breaking up. He was the one who had them ahead of their time instrumentally. It was only public perception that had him third fiddle. I will revise my statement somewhat though, I do think both Harrison and McCartney helped take Lennon to another level. Paul had enough range with instruments to carry his own weight similar to George. But I don't think Paul and John alone could have carried the Beatles, without George in my opinion they would have been another Monkeys type of band or Status Quo. It was Harrison that elevated them to a level above bands like that. And I do maintain my position that they treated him unfairly. At one point they even wanted to replace him with Eric Clapton, which from a sheer talent standpoint I can't blame them, Clapton may be one of the few people who would have been an upgrade over George, and that's saying a lot. In short, I'm not saying Lennon and McCartney were without talent, but I don't think anyone in the Traveling Wilburys takes a back seat to them, and George deserved as much credit for the success of the Beatles as they did and didn't deserve to be a third fiddle.
what a priceless group. Five of the best performers in music history standing together and smiling at each other, no ego problems just enjoying making beautiful music.

The best ensemble over the last century... an unforgettable quintet of the my favourites voices, singers and music-players !! My uncoditioned tribute to Roy Orbison,George Harrison, Tom Petty,Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan....in order of my score about voice quality !
I have a female soprano voice that can sing a huge range and I tried to sing along to Roy's songs and even with female soprano voice, his high notes at the end of songs ling Crying and Only The Lonely and Blue Bayou were a bit of an effort to reach comfortable, but he does these notes so smoothly, effortlessly. They just float,so naturally. I don't normally go for the male tenor voice, especially singing modern stuff, though don't mind it for classical music. But his is so fine, so lofty and yet oh so masculine powerful, too. Incredible voice. Love it!
I was Blessed to have seen him Live ,, Including his very last performance... I cried because of the beauty of his voice... incredible ... (I grew up listening to him from the age of 11)
Jeff Lynn is far and away the most under-rated Rock-God in the history of rock and roll. Roy Orbison and George Harrison had the best voices in the group
Thing about Jeff is that he's spent more of his time in the production room (same with Alan Parsons) than they have on the other side of the microphone. Yes, he's very much underrated by the listening public but, like Parsons and a lot of "lost" artists (even going back to Jackie DeShannon) the singer/songwriters know exactly where they are and how to get hold of them.
The only two singers out of this group that can sing good and have a nice voice are ROY ORBISON and JEFF LYNNE. The rest...George Harrison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan have horrible voices....especially, Bob Dylan. I don't know how Bob Dylan even made it big...he has the most horrible voice! And, George Harrison and Tom Petty...UGH!!!! Their voices are so ANNOYING! John Lennon had the best voice out of the Fab-4.
@@GeeB1 Bob made it because he's an amazing poet. You don't have to be a good singer to be a good musician. Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, etc. are in the same boat.
Hard to believe that Jeff Lynn and Bob Dylan are the only members of the TW's who are still with us. Harrison, Orbison, and Petty left us much too soon. This kind of 'patchwork quilt' of musicians was highly underrated, yet it was comprised of some of the most talented musicians that this world has ever seen, or ever will see. I hope these 'absent friends' are playing music together, wherever they may be. Long life to Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynn. Rock on!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Imagine how hard emotionally it has to be for them to watch those they likely shared the best creative happy fun times of their life with...pass away. Gotta be heart wrenching!
Roy suffered so much during his lifetime, I'm glad he got to make a comeback both as a solo artist and playing in a band. He looks like he is having a blast. Wish he stuck around longer
I'm so glad that Roy got to enjoy these moments before his passing. It's ironic that Roy toured with the Beatles in the early '60's, and they actually listened to him working on "Pretty Woman" in the back of the tour bus. Roy was with George at the beginning of George's career, and George was with Roy at the end of Roy's career.
Secret Treasure Path - Roy was a big influence on John Lennon, as well. When the Beatles recorded Please Please Me, Lennon later admitted it was an attempt to sound like Roy.
@@laserluver1 He definitely influenced a lot of people, and had a lot of admirer's of his work. His silky angelic voice was so rightfully heralded. Even stars were in awe of Roy.
All the more poignant, listening to, watching, this now, knowing George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty are gone… What a gorgeous group of folk/pop/rock royalty who gathered to create such sweet music together under one name - a rarity, indeed! I still marvel at the surreal planetary alignment that resulted in this, even twenty and thirty years later…

True right hand s down .
Whenever I think about the Traveling Wilburys, I think about the warm voices of George Harrison and Jeff Lynne, the warbling harmonies of Tom Petty and Bob Dylan, and of Roy Orbison’s voice hovering over all of theirs like an angel’s.
What a beautiful comment! Says it all. ❤

Funny, I always heard Roys voice as a bit Angelic as well but i suppose alot folks did. This song really brings their harmonies together.

At the time, we didn't realize how lucky we were to have these five great legends together. It will never happen again. RIP Roy, George and Tom.
So true. So sad how they passed but thank God we have their records and what good music it is
I kinda knew at the time how rare and magical and fortunate that grouping of insanely talented musicians was. I savor every minute of these songs, still. Just a totally unique, peak-of-a-lifetime musical experience.

Roy, George, and Tom we lost way too soon!

No bruce
The more I look at these artists together here for their first hit single, the more I have trouble understanding and believing it happened. Almost incomprehensible. Superb. Thank you.

@@dan4345 Oh, dear! Another one loose from the nut house? jk lol ;)
Not 2 worry they will all B back 💋
The way this band was formed was so organic.
George loved being part of a Band, this was just a pleasant unplanned group of awesome dudes making music
Throwing fits ...walking out of a recording session, sleeping with a band members wife. These are not behaviors of a legendary force but those of an undisciplined and immature man. The legendary force for my money is Paul McCartney for both his musicianship and his self discipline.
@@julies.reiner7571 Whatever you say lol.
He was sometimes referred to as the unsung hero of the Beatles.
Imagine being in the studio the day this song was recorded. So many legends in one space... the melding of genius minds

Jeff Lynne definitely a genius.

The story of how this band came together and this song was written and recorded is incredible. All done in 2 days through George's friendships and musical genius.

Roy’s voice really does give you chills listening to it eh..
The members..

All a masterpiece 👌
Yeah, and Roy smiled several times times during the song. So he had fun.
Absolutely Craig there will never be another band assembled like Traveling Wilburys, so much talent.
I personally think Roy has the best voice in all of modern music. The guy's voice was so well controlled and he had such an amazing range.
Got to see jeff Lynnes ELO a couple years ago in Toronto and it was so Fantastic! Best part though? Was was when Dahni Harrison came out and did his dad's part of handle me with care.
I miss George Harrison too so underated.

Roy Orbison's voice is "The Greatest voice I ever heard"

Rip
heard a similar comment about Roy. Elvis said he was the best singer (voice) in the room unless Roy Orbison was there.
I agree, 66+ here, heard them all, roy is untouchable in his purity....
It is true sorry Elvis Presley 😔😔
Elvis, also James Brown said, Orbinson "is on another planet, he has more talent than any of us put together"
The music and memories of my life and my loves. From teenage adulation to adult understanding. Weddings, births, deaths and a Bee Gee song to make every event unforgettable. Losing them is like losing a piece of my heart 💕
When you have 5 legends all playing together and there’s not an ounce of ego in the room, you get this amazing music.
Agree!!! so cool!
To be honest, it's kinda shit when you consider how good these guys are in their respective acts.
And goosebumps
Just supreme
Roy orbison's voice was simply off this planet!!!
Elvis would never appear on the same stage as Orbison, he was that good.
The day will never end"
My time will come to meet them. I hope!!

You'll never have a more iconic group then George Harrison, Jeff Lynn, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. Such talent
Lennon and McCartney might disagree.
Jeff Lynne is the 6th Beatle.
Georges voice developed so well as he matured. His voice makes this song.
i agree, they're all great musicians but george and roy's voices stand out
"End Of Line" is divided so much into parts for everyone. Somehow I never noticed before how much this one is George's song.

Patrick J ......many decades ago, Elvis said the same of Roy. George Harrison is documented as saying when performing alongside Roy, he found it “difficult to concentrate” and that Roy’s voice “gave him chills”. High praise indeed but then Roy was truly magnificent.
George’s vocals, his tone, nothing like it. Outstanding.
Indeed! too bad we've lost him, Tom, & Roy... hopefully they are still jamming somewhere

@@Cruiserweight190 Nope, not if you believe the Bible:
Ecc 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
Ecc 9:6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
No jamming either--this is notwithstanding either the first or second resurrection--the second means eternal death--the first means eternal life in the new earth. Roy's voice makes the hairs on my arm stand up! Such a powerful voice!!
Just asking. But did Roy have a ponytail? It sure looked like it at the end. Thanks
@@davidhenry8983 Yep, he had one. But he hid it well :D
Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne's voice blend well together in the background vocals
You can tell he was blind, he doesn't realize how goofy ass he looks.
truly awesome voice
Roy had the most beautiful voice. We were lucky to have him.
Everybody else in this band is/was a giant, but Roy's voice has always sounded like it came straight from Heaven.
@@jamesmcdermott9275 Forget that noise. You're fine.
I am 75 now; over the years I have come to believe that his voice really did come from heaven.
and he never looked like he was working hard. he would just stand at a mike and put out those high notes like it was nothing hard just amazing
Couldn’t agree more, his voice is so pure and original , I don’t think it can even be imitated.
These guys left their ego's at the door and brought you some of the best music ever made. The world will never see a gathering of pure talent like this again.
Ego is low mindedness... these guys were high minded... We synthesize and we analyze... and you were never told about it!!! Why? How is the education system so delinquent? Analysis is known as the 'dim' light for a reason.
@@elcid451 Are you in some kind of a cult?
@@ej2659 Looks like you are one of the uneducated.. So you don't know about our states of mind! Your comment was low minded and that's ego driven. BTW How did you suspect I'm in the "Cult of The UnGodless"...
@@elcid451 Did the spaceship drop you on your head as a baby?
Yes and their collective genius shows in the music.
Was 19 years old when this song was released. I'm 56 now. Still sounds great after all these years. Thanks Wilburys, for making the 80's fun for me. 😊 💙💙💙💙💙 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I totally missed it back when it came out... didn't realize the wilburrys formed that long ago🤤
Happenstance, Serendipity.
Your math is a little off.
The Traveling Wilburys formed in 1988. George Harrison was the initiator. They didn't come into prominence, though, until the early 2000s. You can read about it on the googles. Yet again; 19 + 12 + 23 = 53. So Mr Walsh, you're still a young man at 54!😀
@@laurenrowell9251 I recall that Jeff Lynne from ELO was the guy who formed the band. Maybe that's just my assumption due to the fact that so many Travelling Wilburys songs have such an ELO groove to them. Like this one.
After a little googling it seems that Lynne was producing a George Harrison album and the two came up with the idea for the Travelling Wilburys during this project.
0:41 That moment when Georgie fades and Roy approaches the mic. Good Lord the shivers
George and Roy's vocals are wonderful. Full of Soul and integrity.
No kidding. George's voice is so strong, vital, and fun. Roy's voice is that of an angel.
My dad and I both loved this song growing up. We always turned it up and went dead silent. If we did speak, it was to sing along badly. He died Jan 1st 2020. Thank you for the memories.
we all have the life.
I feel like it's impossible to get tired of this song, can't stop listening to it.
I said totally agree with this song it's a classic
So true. Bitter sweet watching and listening, knowing that three of them have passed.
Same here🎶
100% agree with this. I must have watched this video 100 times, but if anything it gets better each time.
Always come back to it..
No one today comes close imo. So glad to have lived with the music of my generation, just the best EVER. ❤ 74 yrs young..
That statement altho Ive heard it alot from the baby boomers, never gets old. I wanta raise my fist and cheer when i hear it because its so true.
Music today sucks bronco balls
I can't memorize lyrics, carry a tune, or play ANY kind of instrument. But I know what beautiful music is and thank God for giving them a gift all of us can enjoy.
So true. Well said, sir.
It's never too late to learn, however I started playing drums then went to sax, electric bass and guitar. Never regretted it ever!
People will say there will never be another Freddie or another Bowie. They're right. And there will never be another Roy. How lucky that we have his music to remember him by.
Well said Devin my friend.
Best male vocalist there's ever been.
And there'll never be another George Harrison, either... Unbelievably under-rated as one of the Fab Four... but time has shown him to be an incomparable member of the Liverpool lads who changed the world...
So true!
Future will have plenty of monumental talent.
Five people in awe of each other who didn't want to let their idols down. It will never be better than this
I love that Jeff basically was a fanboy of Roy's! I love it when stars are starstruck!
And Jim Keltner
Im glad my Grandpa told me about the Wilburys, This band is awesome, and their songs are great. Greatest Band Lineup ever.
