  • CC’ing your heads is half of the equation to determining your compression ratio for your AirCooled Classic Volkswagen Beetle and other AirCooled engines. This is a simple process that only takes a few minutes.
These heads are from AA Performance, large valve heads with HD valve springs.

Those heads look like they have built in steps. When you cc's the heads with steps you need smaller plates to fit inside the step. The step is part of the cylinder, add to the deck height. I didn't know that either, until I read about in the thesamba.

Romeo I thought the same thing man, but I took an old cylinder without the piston installed and it fit where the step was.... if the step was removed it would make for less combustion chamber area.

Not do disagree...but if you're measuring CCs to figure compression you MUST include the step area. Measuring inside the step will not give you an accurate compression calculation

Do you need to do that for each side of the head or just one side and it’s good

It’s best to check every cylinder, do all 4 to ensure they’re all the same.

@@VWJawbreaker I followed you’re video which are awesome by the way. My CCs are 50, 85.5 pistons, 69 bore displacement is 1585. Haven’t set my deck height yet and im wondering if I can set it at 8.1 for my compression ratio or should I choose a different compression ratio. Im in Ca and will use 87 or 89 octane gas.

@@MrTodo6969 you can usually see it behind the oil pump.
      If it’s a stock cam, I wouldn’t go 8.0, I’d keep it closer to 7.25-7.5 max.
