  • so the time has come! we finally are harvesting the corn with the old combine. this is a pretty cool experience and m so happy it worked out. the 1975 John Deere combine eats the corn and makes our harvest!

    When working under the header (corn head) Put the cylinder lock out DOWN. If a hydraulic hose blew on the the header lift cylinders. Your dead. at 1:16 it is up. Great videos.

    Hey I live on a farm and we have a combine almost identical to that just it’s the bigger version I can tell from the sound when your in the cab your driving to fast you can hear the sound of grain falling on steel it’s similar to the sound when you start with an empty bin but it comes from underneath your feet this sound indicates you are sending grain through your return elevator meaning you are feeding material through your combine twice this can cause loss out the back try slowing your variable speed to 2 once you learn the sound you can play with your variable speed across the field to maximize efficiency I hope this helps and makes sense to you have fun and be safe

    we had those combines on the farm in the uk. Those combines had real handles to get things started, not just buttons. New ones are more comfortable and much faster -but the old ones have a charm

    Pretty sweet getting to go out and try something different. I like seeing that old combine brought back to life. Any combine around here that looks like that usually ends up at a demolition derby! I got to do some farming myself this week so the video is very relatable.

    My god, I love this video. He's funny and lighthearted. He also explains some stuff about combines and how to check how they are doing (I've check the row behind them for seeds, adjusted sieves, adjusted fan speeds and cylinder speeds), and then has to deal with a dang zit on his face, poor guy. My experience was more with Masseys of this era (760, 750, 850), an identical John Deere 4400, but in wheat, and Gleaner L2s -- all in wheat.

  • @JT-ee1ii
    @JT-ee1ii 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I had a 4400 with a three row head and it's main problem it was severely underpowered, I can imagine a 4 row in decent corn. Remember, about 3 or 4 kernels in a square foot equates to about a bushel an acre loss. Enjoyed your video!

    • @countrygent4
      @countrygent4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have 4400 Diesel with the 329 engine you can add a turbo from a 301 cubic inch Allis Chalmers 190XT, 200, 7000, 7010, or 7020. Turn the pump up 10% and the two together will add 20% power and performance.

    Some of the corn loss is from cob loss at the header. From cobs hitting the row dividers... that means you are having ears snapping off the stalks and hitting the header with some shatter.
