- Denny gets down and gets funky in a 1972 Lincoln Continental Mark IV driving around Palm Springs and checking out some of the amazing 70s architecture
(The car color is Pastel Lime )
TechSpec Correction: The car is 6.6 Feet wide or 2.1 Meters , the graphics are wrong - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
I have always enjoyed this show. My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting Denny at the Palm Springs Convention Center during Modernism Week.
Thank you for watching and commenting ! Denny is very active in events and a home tour during Modernism week
Great episode! I really enjoyed the combination of architecture and petrol head. 😊 This brings back such memories as my grandmother had one of these and I spent lots of time peering out those opera windows in the back. She drove it like it was a sports car - foot to the floor and one hand on top of the wheel. I guess I come by it naturally. 😂
God bless her! That’s an awesome memory to have
Fantastic memories glad you enjoyed reliving them , and thank you for watching and commenting !
So much fun to see beautiful vintage cars in beautiful Palm Springs! I truly appreciate the information you present on the architectural history. Thanks! 😎
Great that you enjoy the show and thank you for watching and commenting !
The Mark lV is stunning as of course is Palm Springs!!! Thanks for sharing another fun video!!! 👍👍🙂
Both were stunning and hot , It Was already in the 90s at 6AM when we shot this ! Thanks for watching and commenting !
Great video! Packed full of style with a classy vintage vehicle. I’m all about the Continental life 🤩
You can definitely stay classy in a Continental, thanks for watching and commenting !
Brilliant video. Love, love, love that car!!!! Very educational and interesting Thank you
Thank you for watching ! It was an amazing and awesome car to shoot, huge but still quick and fun , cheers !
Great video of a great car. My grandfather bought one in 1972 and I ended up with it in 1978 when I turned 16. It was a massive car but I loved driving it. I was that rare teenager that buckled up both the lap and shoulder belts when I drove and I am glad to see you buckled up your belts. I always thought the car actually drove and handled better with the belts buckled. Have fun with the car.
Wow that is a massive car for a 16 year old but safe for sure , thanks for watching !
@@thecarsofpalmsprings I think that was the point. Let a 16 year old drive an army tank and hope for the best.
🙂
I like the styling of the cars and the contemporary buildings of palm springs to match. Nice touch.
Thank you for watching and commenting , more great cars and architecture coming soon !
Love the disco retro music soundtrack. Reminds me of Saturday night fever. This car and especially the disco-esque 70s color is the perfect candidate. Thabks for the review.
Yep this car does the Hustle , thanks for watching and commenting !
As a kid, and at $385, it is no wonder I didn't buy the HP-35 hand calculator in 1972.
The fun part was spelling naughty words with the numbers upside down like 5318008 or 1134
@@thecarsofpalmsprings ; You are more of a nerd than I.
Don't let it go to your head.
Another awesome video !
Thanks for watching and the kind words !
There have been some questions about the color, it is Pastel Lime, and a correction for the TechSpec the Width is 6.6 feet or 2.1 Meters, the graphics are wrong and show it based on 70.9 inches not the actual 79 Inch width
Great stuff Denny!
So glad I came across your channel!
Subbed
Thank you for the kind words, and for watching and subscribing !
1972 was the best styled Mk IV before the big bumpers.
Indeed a truly striking car , thanks for watching and commenting !
Neat 1970's way to make your sedan look like a coupe...2 six foot long doors instead of 4 three foot long doors.
😆
Genevieve's "15 minutes"!! Though not quite.
Nice music you are plaing in the clip. Who is playing? 🥰
This was a fun episode to score ! All of the music comes from a licensing library called Artlist artlist.io , you might be able to download some of the mpgs on a free trial or find them on soundcloud. Let us know the time in the video of the tracks you enjoyed and we can try to find the artist and name . Thanks for watching !
Is that Mark yellow or green?
We used 3 different camera systems each has a bit different profile. Combine that with the intensely bright Palm Springs sunlight and the color can change quite a bit scene to scene - Thanks for watching !
I believe Lincoln class it pastel lime
Two comments:
I thought brutalist was Soviet architecture.
If you fasten that shoulder belt you cannot reach anything but the steering wheel, the gear shifter and the door opener.
A quick search and Wiki says it actually started in the UK ! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brutalist_architecture. Though it does certainly seem like it was Soviet inspired it seems to be an international time period style vs a nationality style. Yeah those early 3 point seat belt systems were something to be desired, one of the first was in the 1964 Volvo 1800 and it does limit movement for sure , thanks fro watching and commenting !
@@thecarsofpalmsprings I have never seen a Mark in that color combination. Striking.
I like it, but like the MK III"s better.
The 72' Thunderbird was beter looking in my book (but not by that much), and the 68' Landau FORDOR Thunderbird is the absolute best looking vehicle for 1968, unless you want a 2 door
T- Bird, which has a shorter wheelbase and corresponding shorter length.
The 68'-69' MK III's are heavier than 68'-69' Thunderbirds with suicide doors, but by how much, I do not no.
The MK III's may be as much as 500 pounds heavier then that of the shorter wheelbase 2 door Thunderbird, with it's short stroke 429 ThunderJet and wrapped up in a smaller package.
The 460 was assembled using hand selected fits for the first two years, which gave it noticibly more power than advertised. I wouldn't be surprised if the same was true for the 429, as the 68' 429 Bird was noticibly more powerful than the 67' 428 ThunderJet in the same damn vehicle.
All of the Marks where great, thanks for watching and commenting !
How can 79,8 inches be converted into 1,8 meters!?
Hi thanks for watching . It is 2.1 meters as noted in the correction in the description of the video many months ago
Why do they call it the "Brutalist Style?"
Never heard of it, but that mean nothing.
It's kind of square and rectangular, and science fiction looking.
Did I answer my own question?,.......... or is it just the architectual critics talking?
I guess because it is so raw and basic, found this: The term Brutalism is derived from the French word for rough concrete or “beton brut”. Brutalist structures have a heavy mass and scale. And their highly sculptural blocky shapes are often stacked together in various ways, creating an unbalanced look. Thanks for watching and commenting !
@@thecarsofpalmsprings ; Architects, good people.
I'M A HUGE 72 MARK IV LINCOLN FAN, HOWEVER, WHY THE HELL OF ALL COLORS DID YOU HAVE TO PICK A PISS YELLOW MARK IV OF ALL WTF...
It is actually a factory color Pastel Lime but the harsh sun in PS often makes it hard to catch the true colors on camera. Here is the actual color but out in the bright sun it does tend to pop a lot more ! Thanks for watching !
