What modern christmas traditions are found in the bible?
Christmas is a holiday that has been celebrated for centuries, but its origins are widely debated. While some Christians celebrate the holiday as the birth of Jesus Christ, there is no mention of Christmas in the Bible. In fact, there is no evidence to suggest that Jesus was born on December 25th. Historical records indicate that Christmas was originally a pagan holiday to celebrate the winter solstice and various other gods and goddesses. The Bible does not mention any of the traditions associated with Christmas, such as the Christmas tree, decorations, and gift-giving. The Bible does mention other holidays, such as the Jewish festivals of Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. These holidays were celebrated in the time of Jesus and may have been the inspiration for few of the traditions of Christmas. The celebration of Christmas as we know it today is largely an adaptation of pagan rituals and traditions.

What kind of question is this?
Indeed. In fact, did you know that out of all the appearances made by angels in the Bible, the Birth-of-Christ story is the only one where they appeared in a great multitude giving praise and glory to God in the presence of humans? For even in the accounts of Christ’s resurrection, only two angels appeared to the women to give the Good News, and even then, oddly enough, they said nothing about giving praise and worship. We can further observe that in all other accounts of angelic appearances to humans (not counting prophetic visions and dreams), the angel either appeared by himself or came with only one other, and they likewise never made praises to God. So when seeing how Christ’s birth is seemingly the only event which the angels made a big splashy production out of, should we not follow their example and celebrate the event likewise? Now some critics may respond to this by arguing that if God wanted us to celebrate the events surrounding Christ’s birth, lavishly or otherwise, He should have clearly spelled it out for us somewhere in the scriptures. Well please forgive my bluntness, but are they really so dense that they can’t read between the lines of a passage like Luke 2:7-20 and see that we shouldn’t need to have something like this spelled out for us? In fact, I might go as far as to say that we ought to feel insulted if God felt the need to spell out something like this more clearly. Merry Christmas, y'all!

@residue junkie Regarding the topic of birthdays in scripture, did you know that the children of Job, who was one of the godliest men in the Bible, celebrated their birthdays with grand feasts? See Job 1:4 which says that “his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day, and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.” For evidence that the phrase “his day” in Job 1:4 is indeed referring to the day of one’s birth, observe the use of the same phrase in Job 3:1 (KJV) and the speech that follows. Also, in verse 3:4 of that speech, we can get the impression that God Himself had been regarding the birthday of Job up to this point. If God was against the celebration of birthdays, then you’d think Job would have known this and taught his children that too. Are you now going to argue that Job was a bad father?
Now some critics of course might attempt to refute the above argument by recalling how Job made burnt offerings to God following these birthday feasts just in case any of the children sinned during the celebrations (Job 1:5). This, however, is a very weak argument if trying to claim that birthday celebrations are bad. For if Job actually felt that way, then why would he allow his children to celebrate their birthdays at all? Further, since every member of the human race practically sins every day, the odds of sinning during someone’s birthday party aren’t much different from the odds of sinning during a religious feast like Passover.
@residue junkie In your response to my referencing birthdays in the book of Job, you claimed that this book also refers to “unicorns” and "men with breasts full of milk" too and thus can’t be trusted. Regarding the “breast” comment, the only relatable verse I can find is Job 21:24 which refers to GOD having “breast full of milk” (a symbolic metaphor perhaps), but I find nothing that talks about regular men having this. As for the “unicorn” issue, the Bible verses that mention this animal are not referring to the mythical one-horned horse, but rather to a *rhinoceros* which is another beast that usually has only one-horn. Next time, you might want to do your homework first and then double-check it before posting such replies. Merry Christmas.

I’m just curious. I’m a Southern Baptist, but I love my Catholic, Orthodox, Non-denom, and other Protestant brothers and sisters, and I learn so much from their perspectives.
I think he’s Protestant of some sorts, but I don’t think he’s confirmed anything specific.
I'm a Christian who does not affiliate with any denomination and it's because I tend to agree with all of them on some things and disagree on others .

I'm an advocate for keeping (and bringing back) Christ in Christmas. I disagree with the comercialization of it. This is not a cash grab for multibillionaire companies. Keep Christ in Christmas and limit, the frosty the snowman, the little green toymakers and the Rudolph nonsance. On the flip side, kids do love Christmas and a touch of Santa Claus isn't gonna corrupt them. Also, A Charlie Brown Christmas special is very Wholesome and Linus at the end of the show gives the best explanation on the True Meaning of Christmas. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I get pulled into these things sometimes because satan really does steal things and most around us celebrate "Christmas" with no recognition of Christ. That makes me sometimes get mad at how the world ruins things. This video was a good reminder to never let satan steal anything. It's where our hearts are focused, period!

Where does the Bible tell us to celebrate Christmas? If this was important to do, why do we not have this Birth date or tradition examples to follow in the Bible? We are told how to live, how to worship, how to act, etc., yet Christmas celebration is no where to be found.

There are multiple passages concerning this. Where is the passage stating we are to celebrate Christmas or even to celebrate the birth of Jesus? The importance of celebrations and Praise of multiple times are written. Christmas is not one of them.

Praise and worship, treat others with kindness, find that extra bit of joy and forgiveness, fill your home with that sense of warmth and comfort, and attribute all of this to Jesus daily. If you can add things to your life, such as communion with family, prayer, giving thanks, and remembering Jesus is the reason for the season just because it's December, maybe rethink every other month of the year to Praise and worship with Joy and gratitude just as it were December.

Instead, it tells the story of the birth of John the Baptist and the announcement of Jesus' birth. While Luke chapter 1 is a significant part of the Christian tradition, it is not meant to be interpreted as an endorsement of Christmas celebrations. Christmas is a holiday that has been developed over time and is not EVER explicitly mentioned in the bible. Also, the passage does not explicitly tell us to celebrate it, much less to celebrate it using pagan traditions.

@@stephengray1344 Indeed. The problem is that there are accounts of alleged "rational" atheists, pagans, (or whatever, even Christians) whose best display of intellectually is repeating and widespread the same lies again and again. And those are the ones promoted on internet, I am afraid.
I always thought Santa Claus has gotten a little ridiculous. I grew up in the 1950s and knew nothing about Christ, but Christmas was about Santa Claus, same for Easter. I never knew that that Easter was about the Resurrection of Christ I thought it was about rabbits and eggs. It wasn't until I became a Christian before I discovered those were Christian holidays. So much for living in a Christian nation, I was 18 years old before I'd heard the Gospel in a way I understood what it was about.
I always find it funny that the Japanese celebrate both Christmas and St Valentine Day; both literally Christian feast days.

@@methodius--9405 I'm afraid judging by my experience growing up 60+ years ago most Americans probably think they're holidays for kids, especially Easter. At least Christmas has Christ in the name, but I literally was a Christian for several months before I discovered Easter was a celebration about the Resurrection of Christ and I thought what's all this nonsense about?
They may not be pagan holidays, but the meaning of the Holy days is hidden from the culture at large when full grown adults living in the culture have no idea what it is all about. Santa has magic powers like God and I still have no idea what the rabbits and eggs are supposed to teach about the Risen Lord, but I never did.
Go ask young people randomly what Easter is about and only kids that went to Catechism would know generally.
I would say the world took the Holy days back and buried them in all those things that are not pagan, but they are not Christian either. I actually didn't think much about it until now.

Those countries you speak of are inherently Atheistic. In actual Christian countries (even if they are only cultural at first) don’t have those problems. You have Greece where butchers close up shop because so many people fast during Lent and Nativity, they don’t bother selling meat in those months. Same thing in the Middle East, Africa and some Slavic counties.
Japan and America? They are inherently Atheist and Commercialism.

It’s simple really. If you don’t have the time to search through the history here is something simple you can do. You can ask a simple question.
Did the MESSIAH do it? Did Yahusha celebrate Christmas or anything close to it? If he didn’t then the safest bet would be to mimic him.
The messiah kept the biblical feast days and observed and lived a sinless life!

Water is only water if it has 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen. If anything is taken away or added then it is no longer water! That is a (law). It is unchanging because he is unchanging.

Are we realistically going to our children a car and not teach them how to drive? A stove and not teach them how to safely use it? Clothing and not teach them how to wear them? You get the point.
The creator has a specific way he wants those that are submitted to him to worship him. He has specific “HOLIDAYS” that gives him glory. Is Christmas one of them?
Or did he set apart.. Passover, Unleavened Bread, Atonement.. etc
The only way we can give the CREATOR WHAT HE WANTS is by submitting our understanding and will to him reading his word and doing things HIS way.

The truth is that we all to some degree have been deceived by the enemy and we all have operated in his understanding and his ways willing. Regardless of ignorance we have.
Some of those things have brought happiness and a level of unity, but that doesn’t mean that it pleases the father.
Videos like this are made to justify people not wanting to examine there relation to the Creator and Word (Yahusha) and to give up that which is not aligned.
We are creatures that like to be comfortable. Find your comfort in The simplicity of the Creators word. Not man’s complex opinions. I promise you he doesn’t desire to deceive you by being overly complex 😂.

There is no mention of Christmas in the Bible. It is all about us and it was created by man and God gets nothing out of it by people celebrating it. It's not something he wants or tells us we need to do. So, I don't worry about it. No condemnation if I do celebrate it or if I don't celebrate it.

Putting the pagan thing to one side, I'm thinking of the bible verse that talks about worshipping God in 'spirit and truth'. Given that 25th of December is not scripturally the birth of Jesus then how are we worshipping the one true living God in 'spirit and truth'? If Christians are, indeed, to celebrate Christ's birth then why not celebrate it in the month that the scriptures point towards? (the shepherd's were out tending their flock, for example so it was not winter/December). The fact that Jesus said that we were to be separate from the world whilst still in it, indicates to me, that whatever the world celebrates/observes is not what Christians should join in doing themselves. Should we not stand out as being different to the world and its traditions and so called 'religious' practices?

Sermon was good. The impact of Christ being above all and victorious above all other "gods" was important and im glad you ended on that. Im not sure it came accross with as much weight. The sermon felt information heavy and little to hold onto.
I personally like this form of talk/sermon but i dont think the majority attach themselves with the call to know this and worship God by telling and loving others with and through this knowledge.

Many people abandoned the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, but there were also those who continued to believe that the Savior would come.
A ninety-year-old elder, the scribe and teacher Eleazar, was brought to trial for his faithfulness to the Mosaic Law. He suffered tortures and died at Jerusalem.
The disciples of Saint Eleazar, the seven Maccabee brothers and their mother Solomonia, also displayed great courage. They were brought to trial in Antioch by King Antiochus Epiphanes. Various Fathers of the Church preached sermons on the seven Maccabees, including Saint Cyprian of Carthage, Saint Ambrose of Milan, Saint Gregory Nazianzus and Saint John Chrysostom.
If you dig into the Bible you will realize that Christ was not born during December or the winter. Also, you notice no celebrations of his birth before or after the resurrection. But if you dig into how Christmas became a holiday, you will realize it has nothing to do with Jesus. What you choose to do with that is between you and God.

You should judge somebody's ability to preach based on the way they handle the scripture(s) they are preaching on. In this video Michael isn't preaching from scripture, so you really shouldn't use it to judge his ability to preach.
That said, Michael's videos where he does handle scripture show that he's competent at interpretation. Though I don't think I've ever seen him do anything akin to the application part of a sermon.

It comes down to why you celebrate. If Christ is the center of your holiday celebration, weather the holiday had any influence from paganism or not becomes irrelevant if you don't partake in worshipping pagan deities/spirits.
I mean, the word "Thursday" used to be "Thor's-day", a day named after the Norse deity Thor. We don't see Fundamentalists freaking out when we use "Thursday" on the calendar.
I agree with some of your points. However, you said that in the early church that there was this belief that a prophet should die on the same day he was conceived. I decided to do some research on this and it appears to be nothing more then a apologetics myth. Some good scholarly articles debunking this idea, as there is no evidence that the early church believed this.
I did find some notion of this in Judaism, at least that righteous people die on their birthdays, but this is from a 18th century rabbi and is not a common belief. The rabbi was inspired by a passage in the Talmud which might imply that Moses died on his birthday, but this is open to interpretation. There was also a couple of rabbis who died in the same month (not day) that they were born, which was ascribed to their righteousness.

What I have heard and read in the Law of Moses (Exodus 12:1-7 📖 Leviticus 23:5 📖) is that the spotless lamb dies at 1 year of age, 2 week into the first month of Nisan/Abib on Passover.

The story of the Christmas tree begins in England, where the very young Winfrid decided to enter a Benedictine monastery over the objections of his parents. Winfrid grew in holiness and piety but yearned to leave the monastery and bring the light of Christ to the pagan Germans just as the monks had brought the Faith to England a century earlier.

Do People (including Christians) worship the One True God at Christmas - or do they worship turkeys, tinsel and trees? Idolatry is in the heart. Ask yourself - how much time do you spend on Christmas Day (and all the rest of December for that matter) worshipping the One True God? And how much time do you spend buying presents, writing Christmas cards, buying food, cooking food, eating food, decorating trees, drinking, travelling to meet other people, watching television, lounging around, and recovering from all this excess? Can you truly say you are celebrating the Saviour's Birthday or enjoying just another pagan festival?

I am not against people celebrating Christ's Mass - if that is what they want to do (and keep it modest) - but I thought it was a good thing to consider the hours we choose to waste in proportion to the actual hours we choose to spend in "worship." Hours that we will never regain. Are we not told to "redeem the time"? I spent my first Christmas as a Christian traipsing around the shops to find a "perfect" tree, then carrying it home, and up three flights of stairs to my flat. Then hunting in the loft for decorations, de-tangling the lights, decorating the tree.. Then three weeks later I had to take the decorations down, pack them away in the loft, find a saw, cut up the tree, bag it, and take it down stairs, round the back of my property, and then clean my flat. Can I honestly say I was redeeming the time the good Lord had given to me?
I was not saved until I was 37 years old - and I was so looking forward to my first Christmas Day - as I imagined it was going to be the most exciting day of the year. When I got to church I was so disappointed when I discovered the service had been truncated to about 30 minutes. "Why?" I asked the pastor. "So that everyone can get home to cook the turkey" he replied.
We must remember, that many things done in the name of the Almighty are not in the least honouring to His name.

Well said - God owns all things and all days for they ultimately were made by Him, and were made good. The kinds of things those often quoted passages by the anti-Christmas crowd are talking about are when we do acts that corrupt, abuse, or destroy the good - like temple prostitution and human sacrifice.
Supposing that the trappings or date of some holiday were rooted in a pagan culture, that wouldn't matter a lick unless they preserved, in tact, a rite or belief from paganism that is contrary to Christianity. Paul and the rest of the apostles didn't give up their Jewish culture when they became Christians, and they didn't demand it of Greeks, Romans, or the rest of the world. Even if Santa Claus was Odin (which he isn't), the key question should be does he convert and worship Christ with us, or does he still demand we worship him, like the old days.

I haven’t heard anything about the dating of Jesus’ birth being done by 9 months before the day he died. I always say March 25 as the date of the annunciation of Mary and considering that the day he was conceived

Also, when you say no major holiday tradition goes back to paganism, what do you say to possibility that the celebration of the anniversary of one's birth comes from outside the Judeo-Christian Biblical tradition? That is, not the day of birth but every birthday after?
