    I currently have an iPad 9th Gen and I bought an Apple Pencil and a case that is designed to hold the pencil. I’ve had them about a year now and I think I’ve used the pencil twice. On the other hand I’ve had to quite a few video calls and meetings and I don’t like the off center camera view. So, I might be one of the few people who would be interested in the 10th Gen, especially with the nice keyboards, but right now, the 9th is fine.

    After so many reviews raving about the iPad Air I was relieved to see an appropriately critical review that also highlighted some of the key differences between it and the 10th gen iPad. The only place I might disagree with is that the M1 chipset will likely help the upgraded software run more efficiently (and hopefully longer that the A14) as this iPad gets older. Otherwise, I really like that the camera on the 10th gen is more appropriately located for use in video calls if I'm using it as a laptop. The other option is getting the iPad Air and using another keyboard that allows use in portrait mode... What folio keyboard allows this? Suggestions?

Basically I was able to get the iPad Air 5 on sale for $500.00, which was basically only $50 jump (Ik that sounds a lot for one people but for me it was pretty good). I already saw so many videos saying that this ipad wasn’t worth the money, and I already got an Apple Pencil 2 from when I accidentally bought the wrong stylus for my 7th gen ipad. Since the iPad Air 5 is compatible with the Pencil, I just decided on a starlight ipad air 5 with 64GB.

On a personal level I just use it for social media and offline streaming while travelling.

    I feel like if you don’t care about the pencil than save the money and get the 10th gen and only if you really want the new design. I really feel like wanted to get this out at $399 and couldn’t so they kept the 9th gen in the line up. Long term I think the plan will be drop the 9th get this to $399, drop the 11in pro and maybe do a 14 or 15in pro. So the future line up will be Pro with M series, Air with M series -1 (gen behind the Pro), Mini with an A+ chip (chip that is in the iPhone Pro series that year) at $449, Base iPad with A chip (from the base iPhone) for $399

    I ordered the air over the standard one, the only thing i loved about the Standard 10 was the yellow color, i think it looks amazing. What i really dont like about the Ipad 10 is that they put the A14 in it, even my Iphone 13 pro max uses A15. In my case the ipad air has not that much more feature though i could use compared the normal one but the price was not that much of a difference. Only the laminated screen, stronger CPU and 1mm thinner case is usefulle to me.I dont care about the camera, reflective coating and the use of external monitors at all. I would love i could buy an ipad without cameras at all. The air should have the 120 Hz screen.

    You are totally right. Too many variants now. I own a 12.9 iPad Pro 2021 version and looking at getting an iPad for my 8 year old son. The models I was looking at were iPad 9, 10 Air 2022 or iPad Pro 11 inch 2021. I opted for the Pro 11 inch 2021. The reason I finally opted for this is the refresh rate, a compromise of internal storage (128gb) Face ID, quad speakers were most of the reasons why I decided on this,

    I believe the ipad 10 is just a rebranded ipad air 2020 with a cheaper screen but you do get 5G connectivity plus improved front facing camera with the ipad 10. Ipad air 2020 benefit is..
    Fully laminated display, Anti-reflective coating, Wide colour display (P3) sRGB, True Tone display. Both have exactly the same A14 bionic chipset. Local shop "Argos" is selling the ipad air 2020 256GB model same price as the ipad 10 64gb right now. I have my ipad 10 with out catching onto this. Feeling i miss out but the ipad 10 is still great i have no issues with the screen. So close between the two models. I think the 5G reliability connectivity on ipad 10 would of won me over by the finest of margins. Faster internet for streaming movies. tbh the improved screen and the 256GB at the same price would of been hard to turn down.

    Don't forget the refurbished store. Currently, you can find a similarly specced iPad Air (4th Generation, not the new 5th) for £439.00, straight from Apple, which is just lower than the 10th Gen new iPad. Remember Apple essentially reused the older iPad Air design, chip, etc for the new iPad. Saving £60, you get the same A14 bionic chip, Slightly better display on the older Air, slightly worse selfie camera at 7MP instead of 12MP landscape on the new iPad 10, and Magic Keyboard support (In my opinion better than the Keyboard Folio, because of backlit keys, and pass through charging), and a big thing, Apple pencil 2nd Generation support, which is just straight up better. Maybe losing a few colour choices. The refurbished store is quite reliable, as the iPad you're getting would have a new chasis and new battery. Therfore it would be better to get and iPad 4th generation from the apple refurbished store.

Yes it’s a controversial opinion, but I’ve never used the Apple pencil nor have any intention to so this issue doesn’t bother me, nor does the unlaminated screen. At the end of the day I wanted an iPad with the newer full screen design that uses usb c and one that allows me to do lots of writing and the new keyboard looks better then the rest. My only real criticism of the new 10th gen is the ridiculous price increase from the 9th gen

I was hesitant at first but I figured I only need this for watching movies and emails web surfing and the likes. It’s pricey but I hope it will be like my iPad 5th gen that I was able to use for 6 years. I didn’t get the 9th gen because I want the usb c. i feel again that this may be an unpopular opinion - as a user of an ancient 2017 10.5in ipad pro + 1st gen apple pencil, the 10th gen looks pretty good except for the colours. i use my ipad primarily to watch movies, youtube videos, emails, some web surfing i.e. *exactly* what you said ipad users do, & have realised that i don’t exactly need a pro for all this. that sald, i’ve only ever used my ipad pro so there’s no comparison for me.
    as for losing the pencil’s cap - it is magnetic & attaches itself to the side of the ipad. of course with disappearing bezels maybe it’s different now but that’s what i do.
    i’ve also done minor editing work on M365 apps / acrobat & everything’s been great.
    i was inspired by david hockney & had intended the ipad pro + pencil to do more digital art but it never went very far 😅
    all this makes me wonder if the 10th gen is for those like me who jumped at getting the pro before realising that an « ordinary » version would do very well too. & we don’t even have to get a new pencil !
    i have no incentive to get a new ipad but desperately need to replace the smart keyboard.

I have a 1st gen apple pencil, so i wouldn’t be able to use that with the air. Is it really that much of an issue to charge the pencil with a cable? Because how often do you really need to do that? Otherwise I’d need to spend €200 more on the air + invest in a 2nd gen apple pencil. Is that worth it? idk…

  • @carloslegarda10
    @carloslegarda10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Laminated screen does not mean a smaller gap. It means no gap at all. That results in a much reduced glare. The entry-level iPad has a non-laminated screen because it’s geared towards young people (kids, teenagers), and old people (older parents and grandparents) who just need a basic iPad for surfing, gaming, consuming media, and are those likely to be clumsy enough or reckless enough to drop their iPad. There will be much more glare than the non-laminated screen but the screen will be much much cheaper to repair since the glass is not fused to the screen. If you break an iPad with a laminated screen, you will be spending much more to repair it.
    As far as the iPad 10th gen iPad supporting the 1st gen Apple Pencil, I totally get it. You don’t buy an iPad 10th gen unless you are on a budget whether it’s for use in a Kiosk, or restaurant as a menu or point of sale device, or in a school or factory and the 1st gen Apple Pencil is cheaper. In families the younger members probably inherit the 1st Gen Apple Pencils when older members upgrade to devices using 2nd generation Apple Pencils. There are probably already a ton of 1st generation Apple Pencils out there and offering a new iPad that continues to support it really just makes sense especially to attract people on a budget.
    As far as the dongle/cable situation is concerned. I personally very much prefer to have that scenario than to have the Apple Pencil sticking directly out of my iPad when I try to continue to use it while I wait for the Apple Pencil to charge because it feels more awkward to me than holding it with a cable sticking out of it as I already do when I use my iPad while my iPad itself is charging.

      The 10th gen ipad isnt really a budget ipad considering the price.

    • @carloslegarda10
      @carloslegarda10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eyhtwozed2606 It's perhaps for those with a higher budget than most but it is still a budget iPad compared to getting an iPad Air or iPad Pro. Also, this is cheaper in some cases for those with a need for an iPad AND a "laptop". The question is what your budget is. There are also plenty of second hand iPads out there for those with a lower budget.
      The non-laminated screen is attractive for those who are at a higher risk of screen breakage (families with toddlers and young kids, restaurants, factories, etc.) And the cost to replacing a non-laminated iPad screen is much much cheaper than the cost to replace a laminated screen.

      The external monitor full screen support for the M1 / M2 iPads is a pretty big deal. I think it will get more coverage once it is out for public beta and release at iPad OS 16.2. It currently is on 16.2.1 developer beta only, but it’s pretty good. It’s currently a bit buggy but will be a nice addition when using the iPad with a desktop setup and external monitor or when connected to a projector for presentations. Getting rid of the black bars is pretty significant. That feature (and the M1) along with a better 12M camera, faster USB-C, and 5G support make the 5th gen Air a better deal than the 4th gen, though the 4th gen is still a good device.
