The joke is that Larry didn't understand the sentimental value those specific flowers had and viewed strictly in numerical terms. In his eyes he wasn't stealing, he was basically borrowing.

The knocking on the door wakes me and my niece. My niece immediately tells her mom that she's hungry. The roosters have come home to roost.
I found this street! It’s in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, Los Angeles. I originally wanted to put some flowers out when we lost Bob “Marty Funkhouser” Einstein. But I only found it a few weeks ago.
Larry is/was Marty’s best friend but Marty wasn’t Larry’s best friend. Larry’s best friend is/was Richard Lewis. Or maybe at some sick, twisted level, Susie. Or maybe Leon. But probably Richard Lewis.
