And then be seen as the selfish weirdo that doesn't care about anyone other than himself. That's why you don't say that stuff. Larry has no concept about social etiquette and is absorbed in his own ego.

You're right Carl. Larry is very honest, opening himself up to criticism since he doesn't follow the peer pressure of social norms. It isn't big ego, it's saying what is true. The other people are often wacko for blaming him for everything which is a recurring theme of the show.

This first season had a few scenes that really nailed the conversation of groups of boring people. Another one was in "AAMCO," when the dinner guests are talking about neighborhoods, cruises, and shows they had seen. It's like, Jesus, if this is the alternative, no wonder Larry so often chooses to go to Susie's house and get screamed at. At least he isn't going to doze off.

This scene is funny at so many levels! As a closet misanthrope myself, I can so much relate to Larry's discomfort at having forced to sit in family get together post a supposedly tragic event in the family, which he hardly cares about! And people talking mundane stuff about mileage and all that BS. You just want to storm out of all this-which he finally managed to do..lol

Why is it bad timing for the boyfriend to break up? The timing is perfectly natural: the boyfriend was already looking to maybe end the relationship; with a death in the family, he is expected to intensify his caring and emotional closeness; but since he can't do this, he breaks up. Hence we should expect *more* breakups around holidays, deaths in the family, and other events that require bringing the relationship to the next level.

this is still better than what i faced in India- when my father died. People literally wont stop encouraging you to feel sad, if you are behaving normal they will see you as if you are an alien or in trauma -unable to cry. moreover- the fuckup tradition to keep feeding people, and preists , and keep serving guests whole day for several weeks- and no real time to mourn properly in silence.

I’ve noticed both in Curb and Seinfeld that Larry seems to have a particular view on funerals and how to approach death. I’ve already made it clear to my partner and family I don’t want a funeral when I die, that side of things is such a bummer and a pain in the ass. Every funeral or wake I’ve been to it’s obvious everyone just wants it to end so they can get back home. It’s a weird social custom where we add this unnecessarily stressful social and administrative duty to the mourning process. If my family and friends get together to remember me of their own volition, great. But I’m not going to obligate them to from beyond the grave.
Anyway that’s my take on this hilarious comedy I hope you liked it

It's so funny that you feel this way because I too have expressed the same thing to my family. I have forbidden them to funeralize my body. When I die just send me to the funeral home, process my body and bury me. I don't want to be ritualized burial. I told them if they did it would be the biggest haunting known in history, lol 😁 😁. That I would rise from the casket in the church and then be a forever present in their lives.
