Cleanest hand I ever seen working on a vehicle
Thanks, A little D&L can go a long ways - I guess. 😂
Those snap rings are a pain to take out and put back in. I wound up taking my electric fan out to have more room to work. 07 Classic 1500 with 4.8 LR4 (LS1)
Also who has the means to torque the bolt to 13 ft lbs (156 in lbs)? Definitely use the old shim if you are using a AC Delco/GM original clutch.
Oh on the splines on the clutch plate where the shim goes, lightly brush antiseize on the splines to make it easier to disassemble in the future. Mine has the ac belt tensioner (better than stretch belt)
I didn't see the snap rings go back on?
Great video. What are those Bluetooth gauges you used to check ac psi?
Thanks. The Bluetooth gauge I used is made by testo, I added a link in the description below.
If the rubber ring in the clutch is shot, chances are the compressor was slugging and you need one of those devices that stutters the compressor at start up to prevent damage. This is the penalty for having the compressor low. The liquid refrigerant sometimes drains down into it.
Hello sir thanks for posting this informative video which I happen to be having the same problem 😂 I’m testing the plug where you used the light but with a test light instead but not getting no power, I checked fuses and all is good. But since you mentioned it only takes very little amps is that why maybe my test light doesn’t pick up anything?
Do you have a check engine light on? I know many cars won't let the AC come on if there is a problem with the vehicle, even if it's not AC related.
@@marksplace nope no check engine light. The compressor clutch looks in the same condition as your video, but before I get a clutch kit I wanted to try the test you did with the light, but my test light wasn’t picking up any voltage coming out of the harness that goes into the compressor
@@marksplace I forgot to mention my truck is algo a2015 gmc 2500 6.0
I wish you would show how you got the lock ring back on the clutch
I apologize for that, it was because I thought I hit the record button and instead I stopped it. I remember that clearly because I forgot to stop the recording during the last part leaving me with a long section of recorded video with nothing going on. Where I had the camera positioned it was somewhat difficult to tell if it was on or not.
I hope all went well for you and that you were able to get it on.
Hold mouth tight and btreath helps ne
Need to do the same to mine.
One word of advice, make sure that you have a good mirror for when I comes time to remove and install the C-clips. Good luck bud
You made that look a lot faster and easier than it is. Well done thanks for the video.
You're welcome
I have a 2017 2500, 6.0. My compressor started to make a humming/rattling noise. Even with the a/c you hear it while accelerating as well as idle. Was that the same for you? My freon is good.
I don't recall hearing anything other than my AC wasn't cold anymore.
Mine works fine but won’t stop making a chirping/squeaking sound. If I spray a touch of pb on the clutch it goes away. Would this fix it?
I would hate to say that it would to only have it still make noise afterwards. Did you try squirting some water on the belt to eleimate it form the equation?
YOU DONT HAVE TO CUT THE STRETCH BELT PUT A ROPE ON TOP AND TURN CRANK COUNTERCLOCK WISE AND IT WILL ROLL RIGHT OFF
Thanks for the tip, I love learning new ways of doing things and appreciate your feedback.
Just to double check: you don’t need to drain the refrigerant before replacing the AC clutch right?
No you don't mess with the refrigerant at all.
@@marksplace awesome, thank you! Great video. :)
Thanks, much appreciated.. Good luck, and iI hope it all goes well for you.
Nope, don't do that unless if you want to pay for r134A servicing
Hey Mark, I believe I have the same issue with my 2015 GMC Sierra 2500. I'm Finding that all auto part stores are saying that they don't have a separate clutch assembly, only the entire compressor unit listed. Did you find this same issue, and still just use the part you listed off amazon?
Most auto stores or even shops will only have or install the entire compressor that I've noticed, I had the same issue. The one I have listed is the one I installed, well at least it was at the time I posted the link. Its unfortunate considering the price difference. Knock on wood but mine is still going strong till this day.
@@marksplace Excellent, thanks for the quick reply. I'm gonna give it the Ole College try. One last question, what size was the fan clutch wrench you used?
No problem. I don't remember the actual size off hand although this is the set that I used. Good luck, I hope it goes as well for you as it went for me.

Do you think it would be possible to gain access from underneath?
Hey, you dont have to cut the ac belt. There is a tensioner for it. Just under and a bit to the left. I had to replace my ac belt, tensioner, pulley behind clutch on my 07 chevy silverado 2500hd 6.0.
Though i will say this, it makes it way easier cutting the belt because 9/10 youre gonna replace it anyways!
Not on the 2011 hd 6.0.
Use the edit icon to pin, add or delete clips.
My 2008 Tahoe has the belt tensioner to loosen the ac compressor belt. Still have to remove the serpentine belt first.
Mine uses a stretch belt, there isn't any tensioner on it. it's a 2015 6.0l which was the start of a new model year.
What a nightmare
Wtf was Chevy thinking?
Not a bad design
Chevy is sinking low to cost a consumer this price for a new belt because they can't educate an engineer on how to install a tensioner to properly remove this belt. It's all good. I gots a knife but out of money from working on this piece of shit. I used to have lots of love. That's all gone.
At the time I wasn't a where that there was a removal tool. I put a link to a tool that would work for both installation and removal. Sorry to here that you're having issues, hope all goes well for you.
