Monstera adansonii variegata care and propagation (with updates)

  • This is hands down the most expensive plant I’ve purchased at the height of the rare-plant boom in the beginning of covid. I spent money I didn’t have, and had really high hopes to make a return of investment in the future. Well… ladies and gentlemen, I went and propagated this plant. Again and again. In this video I share the care tips, and propagation experience with tons of updates. Watch to find out how many plants I have at the end, and how much this plant is worth now lol.

    I’m so sorry that you lost those propagations! I can’t imagine how disappointing that must be but I really appreciate your commitment to experimenting with propagation and making these incredible videos about the process. I’m glad you still have some of the plant however and I know you will manage to make something out of it. You’re great at this

    Always the best videos because you follow through and show us updates on the plants. I love your videos because of the time and care you put into them. I just saw a video from people who collect rare variegated plants. They advise patients since this plant often puts out green leaves but then alternates with variegation.

    • @onlyplants

      The variegation tend to be unstable but a good genetic one (with the right environment and good luck) should yield all variegated leaves

    I was skeptical with the light factor! As I do believe variegation mostly is affected by genetic. I still believe that, but I now also believe that light can be another factor. 90% of my variegated plants turn super white/ yellow since moved to a brighter location or as they grow closer to the light source.

    Thank you so much for sharing this video. Sorry for your loss of cuttings but after watching this video i realised that im not the only one who has spent a big saving amount on this plant (it was a rushed buy as soon as i saw one being sold nearby. Plant has 3 leaves-one very less white almost green, second was half half but the seller cut the leaf in half (may be albo part was burnt) and third one all white leaf(i had no idea before buying that it wont survive)
    Now after seeing this im going to dare chopping at least the all white top
    Leaf. You are absolutely right its very stressful plant and literally costs an arm and a leg. So heartbreaking to see my most expensive plant like this😔

    I’ve just got a monstera about a week ago and it’s living in good medium mix but way too large pot. I suspect there’s a root rot as the garden center overwater them. Should I repot them into a terracotta pot or should I wait for a few more months to let them acclimatise to my home? I’m so afraid to make the mistake again as this is my forth monstera. Hi i have a question. I own a variegated adansonii just like yours, however the white part is turning lime green, nyonyadestira says that it maybe because i’m giving it too much light so the variegation adapts to create more chlorophyll. Just wondering do you think that the new variegation will be white or will it be lime green. Cause that sucks if it turns lime green (when i bought it it was white)

    I bought one and I noticed there is a leaf that is variegation on one leaf should I leave it to grow with the whole plant or cut it and make it it’s own plant?

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would wait a few more leaves and for that node to gather enough nutrients first, then cut it

    Hello i just got my adansonii aurea, 1 leaf is 3/4 variegated, the next leaf is 100% green and the next unfurling leaf looks like it’s gonna be fully green.. is there still a chance for variegation?

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wait for the next leaf, if not you may consider single node propagation. Their variegation is highly unstable

    • @onlyplants
      @onlyplants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would wait for the next leaf to see if it produce any green. You can cut the white leaf off later as it will not produce food for the plant but only after it has sprouted a new leaf on top of it 😀
