Getting Back Variegation! REVERTED Yellow Monstera ‘aurea’ | Propagation - WITH SATISFYING UPDATES!

- In this episode, I share basic care tips for the yellow variegated monstera ‘aurea’ and propagate a reverted green specimen with aim to get some variegation back. I use various technique, and invoke my experience on detecting variegation stripes from the nodes, so there will be loads to learn from in this episode. There were lots of success and satisfying update at the end, but also some deadly mistakes so you learn not to make them!

Awesome video!! Love those videos from your home by far the most. One thing I've experienced myself is that Monsteras hate to be propagated by sticking "old" aerial roots into soil. Never had success trying to do that. Water or moss all the way.

Such a good video. Sean, can I cut the aerial roots without hurting the plant? I have a monstera that the aerial roots are hitting my cement patio floor.
Yesss, I cut most of these aerial roots in the video to a manageable length. Be sure to sterilize though. I use activated charcoal powder.

The billietiae part 2 is half way done filming. Its 6 months update so far but I might wait for 2-3 more months

What N P K numbers do you recommend? I have 2 different fertilizers - one is N9 P3 K6 and the other is N7 P9 K5 so, I am wondering if I should get another for these plants which I do not mind to get.
I have 2 Aurea’s that I started from wet sticks that I received in early January and they have grown painfully slow however, recently they have taken off growing and I’m so happy. So far they both have good variegation.
I’m getting ready to repot and add a moss pole and after watching this, I want to make sure I have the right fertilizer.
I would find a balanced one with equal amount of each.
Just my 2 cents, but isn't it easier to water propagate first for the lateral-subterranean roots to develop before potting them?
You are 100% right, but in my channel we take the experimental and risky side of things. I enjoyed showing both results - even my mistakes 😀

Interesting that you can propagate by putting just the aerial root in the potting medium. Whether or not you have 100% success rate we learn from your mistakes!!

Pantesan my monstera propagation always die on me . I‘ve been doing it wrong😅 the whole-time ! i always submerge the whole cutting into the soil😅😅
Haha yes you can do that, but dont overwater. When in soil keep it only very lightly moist
Love such prop videos! Does this mean its a myth that the growing eye placement determines the variegation? Since those were in the "no" pile but produced beautiful leaves 🤔
In my experience, the “yes” pile would have produced good variegation with a much higher possibility (but they died unfortunately). In the “no” pile there were a few maybes, because it was impossible to tell as the growing eye was covered. However, an all green growing eye from a variegated stem could still produce variegation but at a much lower possibility.
Question: I have a 'Black Varnish' Pseuderanthemum plant that developed a variegated sport last year. It grew 4 sets of leaves with reducing variegation (50%, then 75% & 25%, etc) before returning to normal. I cut the branch after that node to encourage branching, but unfortunately the main leaves eventually dropped and it has stayed a bare branch, even when I have trimmed the rest of the plant to try and get growth into that branch. My question (after my long winded introduction) is, is there a way to encourage growth from that specific branch beyond what I've already done, or is it possible a lost cause?
Interesting… I wonder what that variegation look like on that… but these guys should respond well to pruning. I hope you propagated top cuts.
Sometimes plants dont grow a new branch at the node below where you cut… they may grow it at the base instead.
The only way I can think of, and I might be wrong, would be to apply keiki paste (commonly used in orchids) around the node you want the branch to sprout.
So the top growing reverted and never will grow variegation. Did I understand correctly?
I wouldnt say never… but the chances are extremely low to none.

I was travelling most days of the year 🥲 mostly to film for the channel.

@@drmdrm3703 travelling is what supports the plant hobby. Sean is an exceptionally plant parent and doesn't need to be made to feel bad about losing a couple cuttings.
@@leahnelson771 my point was more about people hoarding plants in general that they can't appreciate/take care of each of them properly anymore. And that downsizing is actually a good idea for some situation. Not trying to make anyone feel bad about themselves. But hey people are allowed to do what they want obviously.
