    Sir you are a legend, thank for these videos, very inspirational. i'm heading over from Australia around October 2025- flying into Pittsburgh Airport, doing Montour, GAP, C&O, then flying home from Washington DC - I'm back on my bike after many years, 62 years of age, fat overweight and very unfit - my bike is helping save my life, I,m completing a lot of short overnight trips here in OZ and building on distances as i going. Once again Thank You

    Loved your video. Back in the 80s living in Reston, Va , just before dawn, I’d ride west on the WO&D towpath to Leesburg, then north and take the ferry to the White’s Ferry restaurant where scratch made pancakes with real maple syrup wood fuel your journey down to DC. Then back to Reston mostly on the WO&D. 100 miles. Now like you in my later 70s I treasure those rides. Glad to follow your adventures.

    Thank you for sharing this journey with us. I’m sad to see it end and wanted to give you a heart emoji instead of a thumbs up. I loved it so much! I want to ride both of these trails and can’t wait to follow in your tire tracks soon. Your videos are the best I’ve seen on the C&O and GAP trails. You gave me great information and whetted my appetite without any spoilers. Looking forward to your next adventure. 😊

    Such a beautiful trail that I keep going back C&O year by year, especially the Great Falls and Harpers Ferry sections are beautiful. I assume you didn't go to Harpers Ferry because you have to carry a loaded bike up the stairs. Great ride, hope to see you soon on the next one! 👍

      Hey Russ, it was great to meet you last week! The C&O is a great ride. Later this week I will be performing major surgery on my road bike. Installing an electronic shifting system. The installation may involve rubber gloves and a lot of cursing. Video in a few weeks. This week another e-bike review. Don't need one but they're interesting. Busy summer but I hope we can ride together before summer ends. I'll keep in touch. Have a great week, Steve

    Great series. I'm thinking that if you had decided to climb that hill instead of doing a hike-a-bike, you'd have done it without much trouble. Waiting for your next adventure.

      Hi Fortes and thanks for your comment! I could have climbed that hill, however to maintain my cycling ability as long as possible, I try not to put undo strain on my aging knees. Thanks again and have a great week, Steve

    It's amazing, you doing these fantatic rides then documenting them with great videos. Obviously, you do all the filming, but what about editing? Do you do your own editing and about how long does it take to produce one video (not including the ride)? Is your background in filmography? It's fascinating! This 71 year old is green with envy with your skill set. Thanks for all you share.

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Dan and thanks for your nice comment. Yes, I do all my own editing in Adobe Premier Pro. It's an ongoing learning process since I don't have a background in filmography. It's a fun hobby. Thanks again and have a great week, Steve

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It takes about 30 hours to edit a video

  • @rodm140
    @rodm140 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hello Steve!! Your videos are so well made and evidently much painstaking editing is done before you post them. The sound quality, especially when you're speaking, is excellent. I wanted to ask if during this ride, did you wish at any point that you were riding your Jamis and not the 600X? (Thank you for instilling confidence on those of us who are hesitant to take that first step)

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Rod and thank you for your comment. I'm always trying to improve my editing skills. It's fun, but I still have a lot to learn. Because of the muddy conditions I was glad I took my Priority. However, my Jamis would have handled the the trail also. Having wider tires helped get through the mud without a problem and not having a traditional gearing setup was a plus for the unusual conditions. Thanks again and all the best, Steve

    Great job showing your trip. The other videos I have watched just flew through the trail and it was hard to get a good idea of what you really encounter. How was it getting to the airport from Georgetown on your bike?

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Tom and thanks for your comment. After arriving at mile marker 0, I locked my bike and took my valuables in an UBER to the airport. Picked up my rental car and drove back to mile marker 0. Picked up my bike and started driving north to a hotel before driving home the next day. Thanks again and have a good weekend, Steve

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, I was using a DJI Pocket 3 as my main camera. And a Insta360 Ace Pro mounted on the handlebars. The Ace Pro is not the best for vlogging since you must hold it two feet away from your face for it to be in focus. Thanks and have a great day, Steve

    Your distances are impressive carrying so much gear. How much weight is it?

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Larry, the bike weighs about 37lbs. All the extras including tools, tent, panniers etc add another 30lbs. Wasn't bad since their weren't many steep hills. Thanks, Steve

    Steve, question; what do you do about flat tires, what’s your set up and how often do you get them if any.
    Thank, Mike

    • @steveretiredandcycling
      @steveretiredandcycling  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Mike, I run tubeless tires. Never have a bad situation because of a flat with tubeless. Only had one flat in the last 3000 miles and it was easily fixed with a standard tubeless plug and a little air. Tubes make life to difficult. Thanks again, Steve
