My dad was a BSD user since Bill Jolitz (RIP) wrote 386BSD
It's good to know that there are people from my nation who use BSD. (I assume you use BSD too)
@@nxjoseph No, everyone in my family uses some distro of Linux now, even my mom. I started with an old Dell Latitude D600 my dad gave me as a child.
@@esra_erimez I see. Linux is good tho. I'm currently on Linux, it has better software availability. Have a good one.
Thank you for not editing out the troubleshooting. You know way more than most of us, so its good to know we all have issues now and then.
I've wanted to try out BSD, but this is the kind of thing that keeps me using Linux instead. It just seems that much of the BSD community is quite happy leaving things half finished or just not porting things. There are so many good software packages on Linux that seem to take forever to get to BSD, if ever. Just the other day I was thinking of trying to do an install of FreeBSD and put the lastest Gnome 46 on it, but I can't find even a guide anywhere online about how to do that.
I just love so much your sound effects, so they conceive the meaning about the content. I assume there must be some people who like it, so keep up the good work for them at least
Best of luck. It does work and run, and I used poudriere to build from ports as well. That was a few months ago. It took a long time to build though, and I had to wrangle a few dependency problems, but I heavily customized my USE flags so hopefully it goes more smoothly for you.
Edit: I haven’t used Wayland, I stick to X11 on FreeBSD. I did try it briefly, but it doesn’t seem to play nice with sddm, so I gave up on it. Black screens aren’t very useful on a desktop.
I'd be interested to see how well it works with Wayland :)
on my machine, FreeBSD would outright refuse to run X11, but KDE would run nicely under Wayland. YMMV.
@@redwillrise Interesting, thanks!
Building the /sys and / partition is ok once thats done then you have to build X which is going to give you problems with xf86-video-intel for packages like these just write them down , and then when your ready to build kde itll work fine plasma 6 can be de-bugged by configuriing it entirely Adreno/nvidia-tegra/powervr: i kept getting what they called dbus-seat errors i think is what they were called when attempting to run wayland because they changed the init configuration i think............ but xwayland was able to bring up a virtual desktop...... so it did in theory work......
Great👍
I am an old FreeBSD user. 14.1 won't run x windows on a new gmktek k8. I have 14.1 on two intel boxes, and I haven't gotten sound through the HDMI cable for ten years.
I was trying to install it yesterday. I'm no expert of FreeBSD so I just installed hyprland... it would be cool to watch a so called "riced desktop" video...
Hey! I also went with Hyprland! How's yours look? Got any tips or dor files to share?
❤
I installed this 2 days ago and it has to be set to latest pkg install x11/kde6 one problem I have the themes are not working in SDDM, but when the system is locked it looks ok.
Only a few Themes work on kde6 no matter the platform. I crashed kde 6 trying to force unhandled old themes... Be aware. ❤❤
Perhaps update the package database
Gary, do you think that FreeBSD will one day have a market share similar to that of Linux? Greetings from Uruguay 🇺🇾🍻
Ojalá sí, y más una adopción por parte de los hispanos.
@@PabloVilla-gn7qu ¿Vos usas Linux, FreeBSD u OpenBSD?

I managed to install Plasma 6 on my virtual machine.
I installed these with pkg:
1. Plasma6
2. X11 session for Plasma 6
3. "Plasma 6 Breeze icons"
That X11 thing was important on Fedora for Virtualbox.
But it was only a test. Removed it later. It was heavy for my 6 year old laptop. 😅
I think this is what I did.
NetBSD has the same problem.
They doesn't have Xorg on their repositories.
It makes me sad to see these problems around FreeBSD. I switched to FreeBSD years ago because of the stability. Edit: I have a jail, which I installed libtensorflow and photoprism and it was running smoothly for months. Last night, I did a freebsd-update fetch install and guess what...? The jail cannot map the same directory from OS anymore. It was working flawlessly before the update. 😔
Jack Ketch and Linux! 😆😁😄🤣😂
time is your friend. try time -h
FreeBSD need more money to buy hardware, in order to offer these compiled ports. :(
Even with all the money in the world for hardware, they still need developers to write drivers
Sorry, is your real name is Jack Ketch? FreeBSD instead of Debian 12.5 - you scare people even to mention Linux for ages!
