When I was using FreeBSD for multiple months last year I couldn't get KDE plasma working under wayland but wayfire seemed to work fine. It was on Intel HD Graphics 630 as well. What I ended up doing was setting up sway wm which worked perfectly fine and now I don't wanna use any desktop environment but sway wm.

I sometimes use the FreeBSD pkg repo but most of the time I use my own poudriere repo. My poudriere pkgs use my preferred custom configurations which are not always the same as the 'one size fits most' FreeBSD curated pkgs. Most of the time when I rebuild my collection of pkgs (via poudriere) and then later update and upgrade, if I see that the FreeBSD pkg repo overrides something on my system (options changed) then I scrap the `pkg upgrade` operation which would pull from both repos, and instead use `pkg upgrade --repository poudriere` to only use the locally built pkgs, from my poudriere repo (obvious name). Also, if I feel that something should have upgraded but had not, then I use `pkg install -f pkgname` which would trigger its upgrade assuming the newer version is in my repo, or just re-installs anyway if not.

Only a guess, but is pkg pulling in kf6-breeze-icons? I think Plasma uses the Breeze icons as a fallback for any icons not included in the other icon sets, which would explain the missing ones.

You need to install the Plasma 6 Breeze icon theme. Told you in the previous video.

Hi Gary, something similar happened to me with the icons when I installed it. I chose to delete the configuration in the .config folder, then I logged in with the user and it generated the configuration again, the icons were there again.

It is possible that there is a missing plasma config file? Either it was not adjusted, accidentally left out of the install, or it is expected that those who install would need to manually adjust the config, possibly by copying the example (check pkg-plist file for what/where) and modifying it. We all know Linux can use different paths for things, and that could be an issue with the config file or anything else that gets installed, there may need to be further finesse of the port by the maintainer, or extra effort by those who install it.

I wish I could get Cinnamon working correctly on FreeBSD...

FreeBSD 14.1 won't open x11 on my brand new GMKtek K8 with 780M graphics. rtw88 WiFi driver would associate on 14.1-release, but won't on 14.1-stable. I have NEVER had audio out of HDMI on my Intel i3,i7 systems. None of these issues appear with Mint or Neon.

And if kde5 is installed, can it be removed before installing kde6? pkg remove kde5 and pkg install plasma6-plasma

Yeah I have some of the same issues with the icons, and my webbrowser is always asking to be the default even though it is. Right now the packages are on quarterly as well as latest and same version. Plasma 6.1 is due to be released soon, so I hope it will be on FreeBSD fairly quickly. Some of the Plasma6 tools are missing and need to be installed seperatly like the screenshot for example, and are listed as dev. It looks promising, but at this point very annoying.

kde6 isn't finished importing. Use kde5 for now.

And what you are showing is one of the biggest problems with FreeBSD people expect things to just work without faffing around with ports and manual configuration

Sad to see this. Systems become so much more complex due to workarounds, due to wrong decisions both past and present, proprietary blobs, long history of projects. I hope that projects like CosmicDE will be able to fix the situation with excessive complexity and thus significantly reduce the number of bugs and improve cross-platform compatibility

What network driver is missing? You can install freebsd with a dvd1.iso on a usb drive, then boot up and figure out the networking.
