PhD is a Guide oriented program not University oriented. University brand matters only after you have done enough work to justify your PhD degree

Let me tell you one thing! If you have funds in your lab and your guide is extra supportive then no matter where you are doing a PhD. Only fee varies 🙂

I am currently doing my research in TIFR, and I must say funding is a huge part of research in experimental fields. For theoretical research, the institute only matters because you would find great professors there. I would say, being in a good institute is really important because otherwise, it would be extremely difficult to get a good postdoc. So if you plan to do PhD please do it in a recognized institute, or you can do a good project for a while, for admissions in US/European institutes (try only top 500 QS ranked).

Straight simple suggestion to phd aspirants... Mat karo. Kuch bhi karo bas phd mat karo. Shuru kiye ho to right now start preparing for jobs...else you will end up loosing some precious years of your life. Fir bhi passion hain aur capabilities hain to bahar karo, bas India me mat karo. Ye desh naa to scholar ko deserved samman deti hain naa job opportunity. Insult aur depression ke alava kuch nehi milta. Even if you are deserving but still cant sell yourself or cant brag about your silly achievements or cant create a halo of hype around yourself then no matter how good you are, your effort:payback ratio would stay low. So think thrice before coming to phd. It kills.

What is the facility of Library in Private University? Did library in a private university able to satisfy the research Information needs of the researcher!!! As the concern is private University libraries have less access to e-resources, academic and research databases, for which a researcher face too many problems in finding relevant scientific papers for his/ her research.

  • @epictetus__

Excuse me, sir, I was wondering if the current circumstances at institutions such as IISc and old IITs are similar? The reason I ask is that I have the opportunity to pursue a Direct Ph.D. in CS from both IISc and IIT Bombay. However, I'm uncertain about which option would be more advantageous, as my ultimate goal is to become an assistant professor at an IIT or IISc. Additionally, I aspire to complete a postdoc at a prestigious US university like MIT, Stanford, Caltech, CMU, or others after finishing my Direct Ph.D so will the brand of IIT Bombay carry a little more weight compared to IISc? (although I am more inclined towards joining IISc). Anticipating your response. Thanks in advance.

I have personally known many teachers and many of them my colleagues who have completed their Ph.D from BHU or other central universities and they proudly say I have done my Ph.d from those institutes but actually they don't have any knowledge to write a good research paper for publication in reputed journals but not all but many of them. They always busy for making link to each other..I don't know how they completed their Ph.d without any knowledge.

I have studied from an institution where most of the professors are alumni of DU and BHU and I completely agree with you
