PhD Admission Process 2024
Admission for PhD courses is carried out both through merit as well as the entrance based process. The admission process for both courses is explained below along with the basic eligibility criteria.

The basic eligibility for applying to a PhD course is the possession of Masters or a PG degree.
The candidates should have obtained at least 50 - 55% of marks or grades in the PG course based upon the community the candidate belongs to.
Candidates with work experience in the field of research are highly preferred and are given more preference.
Merit-Based PhD Admission 2024
Top institutions offer PhD admission through a merit-based process.
For this, the institute may ask for the candidates to submit the outline of the research proposal.
This is done mainly for scrutinizing the candidates and the selected candidates are notified after the process.
Also, the candidates should fulfill the basic eligibility of 50 - 55% of marks in the PG course.

State Universities In West Bengal is worst of it's kind. My research proposal was rejected twice because of unavailability of competent guide and infrastructure.
So, what should a student do then?
Currently I'm doing my PhD from JIS University, they didn't only provide competent guide they also providing me funds plus proper research materials and labs. So, it is not entirely true that only mediocore students go to Private Universities. Please check your facts.

One of the best university for Ph.D is LM Thapar School of Management. They provide both Executive and Residential Ph.D. The college has excellent facilities and a high percentage of job placement. The Thapar School of Management offers excellent teaching staff and state-of-the-art classrooms for students. They have a strong placement history. Admissions are open now.
Private universities are more focused they pressurized PhD students for publication. Continue Scopus index only. They are more practical and target oriented one of my frnd is doing PhD from private university. 90% of their facilities have done their education from reputed foreign universities. Yes one thing is there that faculties are not permanent after every 8/9 months his guides getting change. Various faculties have left the university and have joined the govt University.

Edit: Sharing Experience after 1 year. Private universities mein nalle professor bhre pde hai 99%. Chadarmodo ko kuch nhi aata. I'm suffering from it. They have very little knowledge about research and academics.

1:38 Brilliant Students??? LOL, I cracked NET and after that I applied for PhD admission in many universities. Government mein Bina Shifarish nhi hota. Shifarish waale bnde Ko interview mein 10 mein se 9 marks milte hai aur Bina Shifarish waale Ko 3.5 marks milte hai. Entrance deke jaao to entrance mein pehle 100% setting hui Hoti hai. Bina NET waalo ka admission ho jata hai sab jagah govt. Uni. Mein PhD mein jugaad se. Interview mein 100% seats pr shifarish chlti hai aur JRF Qualified ka bhi admission nhi hota India mein easily. Sab jagah mera interview 99% efficiency se hua aur last mein Private mein Lena pda and ye sab questions mere mind mein bhi thy ki Private se kaise hoga, kya mahool hoga etc and Now I can proudly say ki Bahot Government Universities se jyada achi hai kai private universities and Private mein researcher ko special attention di jaati hai. 100% cooperation milta hai University ki taraf se. Don't spread myth ki private universities are bad.
