I think that the whole premise of Let’s do a PhD because I’m not getting a job is heavily flawed. If you enter into a PhD program with this mentality, you will have an insanely bad time. The primary motivation to do a PhD should be the sheer joy of studying the subject we so dearly love and then try to make an effort to contribute to the already existing pool of knowledge. Also comparing salaries you get in an MNC and the PhD stipend is not justified. The very expectation that you’ll be payed like an MNC, stems from the fact that you entered into the PhD program because you didn’t get a job (which shouldn’t have been the primary motivation in the first place ). Also there are many jobs that exclusively require a PhD as a minimum eligibility criteria, however I do agree that they are way lesser in number.
@Harnoor, This is a totally biased video, please educate yourself before making any Ph.D. video. Have a lot of respect for you; don't post false data and devalue your image. Half-baked guys who studied in crap schools make such videos; I hope you don't belong to this category. Thanks!

Even a masters is not required for you to gain the skills to work in a tech sector. Kids who are citizens just do a bachelors and earn as much as you do after a masters. If people got STEM OPT after an Indian bachelors, do you think a single person will do their masters to acquire "skills"? Harnoor seems to be all about money money and savings savings.
I guess doing ph.D will get you on J1 for 5 years, It will give you stipend 60-70K and you can still do another job. Easier to publish papers/review as a ph.D student and next apply for EB1 or H1 without lottery.
Well i did job, it’s routine, some shows attitude, seniors did stupid stuff but i have to accept I did it for 3 yrs and was underpaid because of HR policy So i started phd. Till now it’s okay. I like the ideas everyone delivering. I’m not in routine work or stupid ppl. Most of the countries phd is 3yrs like japan. I myself now can design new projects and it’s thrilling don’t know if will succeed or not. It gives you hell lot of contacts, which might help you in future to build your own startup as in phd you gather project mgmt, ground work every bit. It’s hard and it’s not for everyone and it’s not for ppl who like routine job.
You seriously don't get what a Ph.D. is all about. Please, stop making videos about stuff you've never lived through. Just because you might end up marrying an American girl with a potential marriage-based Green Card doesn't mean you understand what Indians go through. Getting a Ph.D. isn't just about money; it's about diving deep into research. And let's be real, if you're out there breaking laws and making illegal cash as an immigrant, you're not gonna get why dedication to research matters.

I think if you would like to stay in space science, both India and the US are great options for a PhD. India is ofcourse super competitive in which case you could consider US.
@W3n0q2p-bs7dg "passionate" is a subjective term :). While I don't want to downplay your enthusiasm, but I don't know of a single person who had a successful research work with "self-funding".
Actually, it depends. If you are getting an average job but top Ph.D. programs in the US then top PhD programs are better than average jobs. But jobs are better if you have job offers from top companies with great packages and you really don't have much inclination towards research at an early stage. The guy who has both can think about the suggestions given in this video. But PhD from a low-tier university under an advisor unknown in their field is not worth it.

In the provided transcript, the argument against pursuing a Ph.D. and in favor of opting for a job after a master's degree is built on several key points: 1. **Long-Term Commitment and Potential Delays:** - The speaker emphasizes that a Ph.D. is a marathon, taking several years and potentially extending into one's late 20s or early 30s. - Points out potential delays in thesis approval and qualifying exams, which may extend the duration of the Ph.D. program. 2. **Toxic Comparisons and Lifestyle Differences:** - Raises awareness of the psychological impact of comparing oneself with friends who are well-settled in jobs, highlighting potential toxicity in such comparisons. - Notes that, despite being fully funded, Ph.D. salaries may not match those in the tech industry, impacting lifestyle choices. 3. **Financial Considerations:** - Compares the financial implications of a tech job and a Ph.D. over a four-year period, suggesting that the return on a Ph.D. may not be significantly higher. - Argues that savings and investments from a tech job may outpace the financial benefits of a Ph.D. 4. **Value of Ph.D. vs. Master's:** - Asserts that a Ph.D. does not add substantially more value than a master's degree, indicating that 90% of the skills needed for a Ph.D. are already gained during master's studies. - Challenges the notion that a Ph.D. provides a significantly higher salary or better career prospects. 5. **Advice for Limited U.S. Experience:** - Advises students to gain 1-2 years of work experience before considering a Ph.D., suggesting that this experience in the tech industry may reveal that a Ph.D. is not essential for research roles. 6. **Encouragement for Job Seekers:** - Encourages students to diligently pursue job opportunities before deciding on a Ph.D. - Argues that risking a Ph.D. without attempting a job may be a significant and potentially regrettable decision. 7. **Challenges of Quitting a Ph.D. for a Job:** - Acknowledges the difficulty in changing the mindset from a Ph.D. to a job-oriented approach. - Highlights that job offers for those with a Ph.D. may be fewer compared to those with a tech job. 8. **Choosing the Right Environment for a Ph.D.:** - Stresses the importance of having the right mentor, community, and friends during a Ph.D., suggesting that these factors significantly impact the success of the program. 9. **Final Thoughts:** - Concludes by suggesting that a Ph.D. may be suitable for those with a passion for research and teaching but recognizes the complexity of the decision. - Leaves room for potential responses from others in the field, indicating an open-ended perspective on the matter.
It is a very biased video and you can develop a number of skills and networking while doing PhD which you might not develop during masters. These skills will be pretty useful in the job market (industries), whether you do a break through research work or not. Also, not necessarily everyone has to settle in their 20s and some countries do offer good salaries to the PhD fellows. So there is more to a doctor life than briefed in this video😅.
You shouldn't speak about something which you never experienced. You should make videos regarding the benefits of Tech jobs and why we should take it.... instead of making videos how phD can destroy your life. Every profession has it's own advantages and disadvantages. You shouldn't belittle a profession to make another look better.
I agree with whatever you said in general, but in the case of aerospace engineering simply a masters will not help me get a job in the US because I am an Indian citizen but with a PhD I can have a chance to work with NASA too if I show exceptional talent in a very niche domain which no one has. It's still a long shot but PhD does create chances.

That is unequivocally untrue - a PhD is a training to do original research. While there are some excellent minds who can conduct research without a PhD degree, it is so so so so rare that that population is statistically insignificant in this regard.

The Real Question is : Why don't people working full-time in industry teach as well? Like I would want to get taught from a technical architect. Why is this teaching route only made mainstream for Phd folks????????
If you are looking at R1 universities as a tenure track faculty, their main goal is research - pushing the state-of-the-art! Teaching is secondary, and teaching colleges do hire candidates with a masters degree. Also, there are quite a few adjunct positions at top universities which hire industry professionals part-time. This is mainly to fill a gap in their department with the expertise that the adjunct faculty brings in.
The way he is referring his own videos itself shows he don't have knowledge of proper research base. This video has rediculously failed to note tha fact that only Research leads to all the Tech....tech and tech jobs he claims all about in this.......😂
after some age, no one entertains you in PhD world...the younger you are, the faster you can learnt things! So I disagree with you, but be smart with your PhD, don't get stuck with useless projects and useless professors.
What if someone is interested in Research Scientist/Engineer roles at places like DeepMind, FAIR, Brain, OpenAI etc? Is I possible with just a Master's degree?

Thanks!
PhD is 90% failure 10% success. if you like to work hard and fail up to 99% of the time then do PhD. It's called
research it's not called success
Doing PhD in the USA is a luxury as the support system is amazing!
phd is basically for them who are passionate for being a professor of a school or colleges
Is it good in bsc chem. I have responsibities in my home
wtf 😂
ever heard of research in industry??? Why do you have to go to academia?
You can't become a research scientist at OpenAI/Deepmind/Anthropic etc. if you don't have PHD ..... it's about working on more challenging problems in life & not just blindly code all day ....
Many Indians go to the US for money. Why would they pay an exorbitant fee for Masters in the US and come back to India.
I guess doing ph.D will get you on J1 for 5 years, It will give you stipend 60-70K and you can still do another job. Easier to publish papers/review as a ph.D student and next apply for EB1 or H1 without lottery.
so you dont want to do reseach you want to beg for green card and you want to escape india
Well i did job, it’s routine, some shows attitude, seniors did stupid stuff but i have to accept
I did it for 3 yrs and was underpaid because of HR policy
So i started phd.
Most hedge portfolio fund managers r phd. holder
People also say about MBA, it doesn't add value, but it opens new opportunities for u
I agree, all I’m saying don’t commit to PhD without trying jobs
If u are doing MBA after BCA or any other unrelated degree which can make u eligible for MBA of course...it is beneficial ig. But if you have done BBA then it's just a waste of time for me at least. Anyways, I am planning to quit my education after completing my Graduation. Hope I get a decent job. 😂
I am a PhD and whatever he said in this video has another name : delusion.
I have done my bachelor's in electrical engineering, can I do master's in aerospace / astronautics and a PhD in space science? I'm super passionate about aerospace and dream of working at NASA. I've worked in IT as a software engineer, but I want a job focused on research, not coding. Can you give me some advice?
I think if you would like to stay in space science, both India and the US are great options for a PhD. India is ofcourse super competitive in which case you could consider US.
@W3n0q2p-bs7dg "passionate" is a subjective term :). While I don't want to downplay your enthusiasm, but I don't know of a single person who had a successful research work with "self-funding".
Here isanother very important thing to do at high school -- live a life :). Travel, make friends, you will miss all that later.
Yes I still believe PhD should be done by trying what can by experiencing the other side too that’s full time job
bro ,I am Indian techie from bengalore who is working in web development for almost 2 year, I would love to go to phd from a top research institute to get away from toxic corporate
With this thinking, no one should become a doctor ever.
PhD does have some non-attractive cons, but it should be described by someone who completed his/her PhD :) Tech or in any science field, having a phd definitely allows you to start on a higher level in most cases.
Agar Paiso se hi Respect Milni hoti toh Humse bhi Kitne Amir log hai Duniya mei. Money Cannot give Respect of that Level.
what a hypocrite! you yourself were against the "destroying career" on video titles which was posted by aevytv and you defended it by saying that you're still getting knowledge and you're getting jobs anywhere in the world because of USA degree and now you're using clickbait titles like these? disappointed in you, always counted on you for good content but now you're using clickbaity titles, please don't take this as hate, take it as constructive criticism and do better - your honest viewer
In the provided transcript, the argument against pursuing a Ph.D. and in favor of opting for a job after a master's degree is built on several key points:
1. **Long-Term Commitment and Potential Delays:**
- The speaker emphasizes that a Ph.D. is a marathon, taking several years and potentially extending into one's late 20s or early 30s.
- Points out potential delays in thesis approval and qualifying exams, which may extend the duration of the Ph.D. program.
2. **Toxic Comparisons and Lifestyle Differences:**
- Raises awareness of the psychological impact of comparing oneself with friends who are well-settled in jobs, highlighting potential toxicity in such comparisons.
- Notes that, despite being fully funded, Ph.D. salaries may not match those in the tech industry, impacting lifestyle choices.
3. **Financial Considerations:**
- Compares the financial implications of a tech job and a Ph.D. over a four-year period, suggesting that the return on a Ph.D. may not be significantly higher.
- Argues that savings and investments from a tech job may outpace the financial benefits of a Ph.D.
4. **Value of Ph.D. vs. Master's:**
- Asserts that a Ph.D. does not add substantially more value than a master's degree, indicating that 90% of the skills needed for a Ph.D. are already gained during master's studies.
- Challenges the notion that a Ph.D. provides a significantly higher salary or better career prospects.
5. **Advice for Limited U.S. Experience:**
- Advises students to gain 1-2 years of work experience before considering a Ph.D., suggesting that this experience in the tech industry may reveal that a Ph.D. is not essential for research roles.
6. **Encouragement for Job Seekers:**
- Encourages students to diligently pursue job opportunities before deciding on a Ph.D.
- Argues that risking a Ph.D. without attempting a job may be a significant and potentially regrettable decision.
7. **Challenges of Quitting a Ph.D. for a Job:**
- Acknowledges the difficulty in changing the mindset from a Ph.D. to a job-oriented approach.
- Highlights that job offers for those with a Ph.D. may be fewer compared to those with a tech job.
8. **Choosing the Right Environment for a Ph.D.:**
- Stresses the importance of having the right mentor, community, and friends during a Ph.D., suggesting that these factors significantly impact the success of the program.
9. **Final Thoughts:**
- Concludes by suggesting that a Ph.D. may be suitable for those with a passion for research and teaching but recognizes the complexity of the decision.
- Leaves room for potential responses from others in the field, indicating an open-ended perspective on the matter.
Have been following you since my JEE days, 2018, 2019 se. It is so nice to see you grow so much bhai. Thank you so much
Can I know ehich clg are u in ?
Now you are in ?
I am doing PhD, and yeah you're right for people who feel the same.
Dude quotes SRK over an acclaimed academic and deliberates about PhD!🤥
You shouldn't speak about something which you never experienced. You should make videos regarding the benefits of Tech jobs and why we should take it.... instead of making videos how phD can destroy your life. Every profession has it's own advantages and disadvantages. You shouldn't belittle a profession to make another look better.
I agree with all your Points 👍
I agree with whatever you said in general, but in the case of aerospace engineering simply a masters will not help me get a job in the US because I am an Indian citizen but with a PhD I can have a chance to work with NASA too if I show exceptional talent in a very niche domain which no one has.
It's still a long shot but PhD does create chances.
you are indian you cannot work for nasa
you are indian most phd reseach for aerospae engineering you can't do in usa. you are russian ally. you can do your research in russia
Indians can work on highly classified projects during PhD if they show exceptional talent
@@sbnerji12555 for that you have to work on controls. If you want to work on space sciences. The domain will be flight dynamics.
let's summarize :-- bhai ka khne ka mtlb ye h ki sirf isliye Phd nhi krni h ki job nhi mil rhi to phd kr lete hn.
See Harnoor if you are doing job or if you are doing phd from top universities both have good career option if you give your best effort.
If you haven't done PhD then you shouldn't commentary on it
You are speaking all these because you have no idea what PhD is all about.
You said that the research is possible without a PhD. Would be willing to explain how is that possible or perhaps make a video about it?
That is unequivocally untrue - a PhD is a training to do original research. While there are some excellent minds who can conduct research without a PhD degree, it is so so so so rare that that population is statistically insignificant in this regard.
Self learning is better than PHd
Americans have a huge respect for PhDs even in the corporate world! :))))
Bhai Tera bohot karibi PhD holder wala dost desi American professor teko hi roast maar rha iss video ke liye😂😂😂
😭
Why?
Wrong opinion regarding PhD.
Kasam KHUDA ki..... mein 1 week sy yahi soch raha tha , ky mein Phd karoun ya nahi bcz Age bohat ziada ho jai giii almost 35 years old........ and suddenly your video popped up on my feed hehehehe XD lots of love from PAKISTAN 💚💚💚💚

Harnur sahab.
Aap kya bol rahe ho.
In Europe people get paid 40lakhs/year for doing PhD .
Ye bolna ki PhD is waste of money is so stupid.
Don’t spend money on PhD ,take it up as a job in Europe (Germany,Luxembourg,Norway,Finland and Sweden) have 0 fees for PhD .
Do your research harnur
Look at India
You've got an incorrect perspective, I do not agree, Phd has a lot of opportunites
Lot of opportunities learn but not to earn ….and many Indian have to send money home
You tricked me with this video. That’s not you on the thumbnail.
Calm down guys, he is trying to give advice to ppl who have to repay loans and want to do ghodagiri asap
Yes I gave up after lots of thought
Plain speaking! In India we see recycled garbage in terms of PhD
What if someone is interested in Research Scientist/Engineer roles at places like DeepMind, FAIR, Brain, OpenAI etc?
Is I possible with just a Master's degree?
PHD are for those, who failed in their masters, and masters are for those who failed in their bachelors.
Yeah, Dr. Homi Bhabha failed at his masters. Go back to school Mr. Illiterate das.
If as an indian I’m not interested in PhD and only interested in green card and good tech jobs what should I do
Marry an American maybe
4 years masters degree? What? 4 years is a bachelors degree
Let me clear one thing. Not PhD students, each and every person in this world compare their lifestyle with others. So please do full research then only share such kind of information. Those who are really passionate about research will go for PhD . There is no point comparing tech phd😂😂😂
Totally disagree, if you want cutting edge R&D job, PhD is a must, even in Data Science also, I encourage others to pursue PhD
wanna be a CTO not a researcher
you can open your startup after 12th, become CEO/CTO then @@LabibIbnMuzahid
Stability der aayegi se kya matlb? Der aaye magar durust aaye. Long term me there will be big layoffs because only researchers at lab will get job.
Master’s degree = 90% PhD degree 🤐
Phd needs passion not comparison bro..
Hii am a big fan harnoor bhai , i am watching your vids since 2021
Best video to demotivation
Hey Harnoor, what about direct PhD after doing bachelors with honours and research, I'm currently a bsc data analytics student, do you think that doing a direct phd in computer science will be worth it. Btw the comments are describing that phd is worth it even of it takes a longer period of time.
Thank you singh.
Make the PhD Admission 0 in any country 😊. Then thing will be better.

hi, @Harnoor singh what is your opinion about computer vision field and its job sector, because i do have interest in it and learning skills regarding it. My peers say it is still in research stage and it is true. You can give a good insight about it?
