    My wife panics just like Lucy when I do anything to the RV. For what its worth I am on my Second Class A motorhome and they are not built any better than you class C. I have to remind her that Riving is our Hobby and all hobbies cost money. Just like a Home you can spend a little now on repairs and a whole lot later. Thank you for the updates and I am looking forward to your next video to see the progress.

      Hi Daniel! Paul had sent some pics of the damage and of the demolition to Lucy to keep her updated. I think it threw her back just like it did me! But she's got the same faith in Paul's ability to get it right. I don't believe any rv's are built to last very long. It makes for steady customers. Strict inspection and maintenance goes a long way to keeping one on the road. I'm glad you're enjoying the vids. It will be interesting (to all of us) to see how it comes out. Thanks for your interest.

    I’m doing something similar to my ‘79 Minnie Winnie. She was completely rotted. I’m stripping the overhead bunk down to the bare metal and having to reseal everything and then rebuild. I have no idea what I’m doing. Just learning as I go. I’m probably going to over-engineer the heck out of it to make sure it’s sturdy and sealed tight.

    Now that is the way I like to buy them, dirt cheap and with some issues. I have not got one yet I had to totally writeoff and scrap. here is my secret to longevity with a class C, replace that wood with King Starboard, it is a marine plastic wood and will never rot, fade or mildew. Yes, it is more $$ than regular plywood, but far superior and you sleep better hearing your neighbors rot and not yours.

If I was dependent on a dealership, I'm afraid Classy would be residing in a boneyard. The cost for them to fix this problem would be financially irresponsible. Oh yes, fond memories of this. I took out the front window completely and filled in the front with framing. I was lucky and wrapped the front overhead with a filon sheet that was long enough to go from bottom to top. That was a good find. Then had to custom fabricate outside corner molding out of fiberglass to give adequate coverage. The factory stuff was just and always to small to give decent coverage. The corners took quite a while to mold and finish. The end result was no leaks and a solid bunk area again. Luckily though it wasn't as bad as what your doing. 20 years ago when I helped my Dad do his class C what your showing is what we had to deal with. Good luck with your project. Looks to be in good hands!

    I've got to do the same thing on a Minnie Winnie. The camera with the actual rot is sitting on the side of an interstate hwy somewhere but hopefully I can get by there and look for it. But I'm thinking of replacing the floor with 3/4" or whatever it sizes out as x 6" tounge and groove but wood type is still being thought of! It's only going to be my cast iron storage and some food stuffs.and seasonal clothing in flip top storage cases. Then if I can seal that window completely dark I'll be happy! The side windows can be removed easier and cleaned and resealed.. if I want to I can recut the panel without the window. Repaint the plywood to match the rest of the rig and then the other side or "south" side of the vehicle you put the window in for the heat. If you wish.

      There's a lot more damage than any of us thought. It will be a much bigger project than we planned for, but Paul has the skills to get it right. Lucy went out there to have a look. She's better now. LOL Thanks for watching.

    Thx. I have a class c as well. Looks like someone ran into something. Regardless, I need to do what your doing and it’s great to see what I’m in for. One bonus, I hope, is that we do not have the front window.

      I'm glad you got something positive from watching the vid. I later was camped in a storm and had a tree fall and crush all the work we had done. It was so bad that I paid the pros to do the repair, omitting that useless, leaky front window. LOL Thanks for watching and ... Let the good times roll.

    Sounds like Paul will have Classy looking better than the factory ever had it. You might consider not putting that front window back in (and maybe the side ones as well) and just use a new sheet of laminate where it was. Those windows, as you see, are the biggest source of water leaks/damage considering the rain pounding on that window. Great informational video.

    • @GeezerAtTheWheelGang
      @GeezerAtTheWheelGang  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know if she will look any better. But she'll be tighter and stronger than original when he's done. We talked about eliminating the front window but the price of new laminate made it financially unfeasible. The factory setup lasted almost 26 years, so I think she'll last at least as long as I do! LOL Thanks for watching and ... Happy Trails.

    Oh that so sucks! Road debris hit the passenger side of my ClassC a few years back. Then it poured rain, thus destroying the over head cab while I was driving . Had it rebuilt but it still worries me that it could happen again. Plus the place that did the rebuild used liquid nails, so the sidewalls need sealed back down again. My best to ya'll.

    • @GeezerAtTheWheelGang
      @GeezerAtTheWheelGang  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no! That sounds like a terrible thing to have happen. Hopefully, the repair (after the reseal) will last for a good long time. We'll be using a relatively new product to seal the seams that you may find interesting. Thanks for watching.

    This is exactly what I'm dealing with on my New-To-Me RV; it's not leaking from the roof or windows so it must be coming up from under the front bill/above the driver's seat? The wood is all flaky and rotten, the bottom is glued to the actual fiberglass frame and when trying to get it up we've made a couple holes that I'm going to have to find a way to patch up. It's a 97 Conquest by GulfStream, I think it's made out of fiberglass, it's not metal sheets and feels like the family boat.

    • @GeezerAtTheWheelGang
      @GeezerAtTheWheelGang  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kailynn. If it's not leaking from those two places,, then it's probably the seams where the front wrap meets the side panels. Do yourself a favor and get rid of that front window. They are nothing but trouble. I recently had a tree fall on my camper and destroyed all of this work that my family and I did. I took that opportunity to just have it fixed in a shop and have them reframe the entire overhead eliminating that window and recovering the nose with a solid sheet of fiberglass. That repair cost me less than 3k and it's been worth it to me. If you still want to try it yourself I'm around if you have questions. I'll try to help. Good Luck and Happy Trails to you.

    Not sure if you're still monitoring this video's comments,. but I could use some quick help. That "bumper" thing under the front window - on mine it's covered with fabric and it's definitely getting wet from somewhere. I can't figure out how to remove it to get a good idea of the damage and I can't find a video of anyone taking it out. It seems built into the walls. Do i just start by ripping off the fabric?

    • @GeezerAtTheWheelGang
      @GeezerAtTheWheelGang  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh bummer. Mine was all wood (rotten) and was easy to get out. Sounds like yours may have still been a factory installation. Sorry, but your guess is as good as mine on removal. As far as what I would do ... I would grab a pry bar and take it out by whatever means it took. But I don't know how much demolition and reconstruction you're willing to do. Good Luck and thanks for taking a look at the vids. I hope you got something beneficial from them.

    What did you use to get the wood off from the very front, (closest to the window but still on the bed area) because on mine the decking seems like it was glued to the laminate on the front half

    • @GeezerAtTheWheelGang
      @GeezerAtTheWheelGang  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine just fell off when I removed the joint/trim pieces. You do need to take the window trim off as it also holds the laminate on. Good Luck, I hope this helps a little.

    many Campground have gone to the ten year rule not sure why , you can have an older camper and still make it look good!! also pretty close. working space hope they don't make you move

    • @GeezerAtTheWheelGang
      @GeezerAtTheWheelGang  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the ten year rule is mostly used as a "tempered" requirement. That is, they don't want junk in the campground and rather than make a list of what's acceptable, they have this rule which they can waive if they choose to. We've only ran into this situation twice so far. On both occasions the rule was waived and we were allowed entrance. However, exposed caulk and duct tape is just asking for problems. LOL Our work space is just a storage yard and the owners are pretty lenient about repairs. Plus we know our "neighbors" on either side and they have no problem with the repairs. Thanks for your continued interest.

      @@oc5515 Keep in mind I had paid, but cheap, labor. Plus, Classy's an old camper and we didn't make much effort to make the repair "pretty". And used as many old parts as we could. We really did it the least expensive way we could think of. A profession job would no doubt cost more.
