RV Water Damage Repair Part 1 - Demolition

  • I tear out the walls in this water damage repair video. Join me as we tear into my class C Jamboree to fix years of water damage. This is not your standard repair job as the over head cab would probably be completely disassembled at an RV repair shop. This repair is a simple DIY fix to get the old RV going down the road this summer. Always make sure your wall framing is structurally sound before completing this type of repair. Wood frames can deteriorate quickly with water damage. Enjoy the video.

    Wow! These videos are so well done that I may decide I can tackle some of my issues in my Class C. I'm scared to death, honestly. Single middle-aged very overweight and (the truth will set you free) lazy woman. Fulltiming. RV is disintegrating around me. Have to face it and beat back the deterioration. She runs good and appliances are great. I just don't know how structurally sound she is and she leaks bad, depending on how I'm parked.

    • @fullmoonadventureclub
      @fullmoonadventureclub  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The repairs can be challenging and a bit overwhelming at first but you can do sections to keep things easier. I think your top priority is to stop the leaks. They will eat your RV fast. Even if you just use some flex seal and go crazy on seams, windows and roof areas until you can properly reseal the roof and walls with the correct materials. Any method to stop the water leaks now would be beneficial. Most motor-homes have a metal frame which resist water leaks far better than wood frames but structural damage will occur with water infiltration. Good luck and happy camping. Jim

    Hey Jim, I've been thinking why dont we use exterior primer the wood on the paneling backside, inside walls, ect.., why leave it bare. If it had some protection the water damage wouldnt be so catastrophic. Pros,cons?

    • @fullmoonadventureclub
      @fullmoonadventureclub  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't see any reason why you couldn't paint the Interiors of the walls for added protection. However I think the main objective is to keep water out of the inside of the RV and therefore painting the insides of the walls would just add weight, cost time, money and hopefully never be necessary.

    What do you suggest for sealing the wood in a similar project? I’m replacing the wall around my slide out due to water damage. I noticed the wood that was sealed with something black, was not damaged hardly at all. Do you know what that is? It appears to be a rubbery sealant. I want to seal these new structural beams with that.
    Can’t anyone suggest something that would work well for this?

    • @fullmoonadventureclub
      @fullmoonadventureclub  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do a bedroom remodel video where I take the windows out and reseal them. But basically you just remove all the screws and the outer window should just pop off and you can reseal it.

    Very nice video. Thank you. Quick question, where was the leak? I have a small leak but couldn't see any water coming in. I did see a black line on the outside of the RV after it stopped raining. Just to stop the leak I tried some black tape that was recommended at Lowe's and I am hoping I identified the leak. We will see. Next, I plan to do what you did if necessary. Was wondering where your leak was. Thanks again and God bless.
