  • Repairing the water rotted front nose on a pickup truck camper ( Start to Finish )
    The front nose of my 94 Texson pickup truck camper had a leak when I bought it. I immediately fixed the water leak after I purchased it, but I waited to fix the structural damage until it became an issue. While driving 65 mph into a strong headwind driving back from The Grand Canyon, the front siding broke free and damaged the roof of my truck. In this video I replace the rotted wood and fix the nose of the camper from beginning to end using 8x video speed.

    I love your channel. But I have been homeless. Lived in a VW Beetle with no heat through a cold winter while working full time. Then getting back into an OTR truck, driving 11 hours a day just to have a roof over my head. All with an outdated Master's Degree. Lots of education but useless after years of raising children and a divorce.
    Worked super crazy until I could buy a house with a solid front door and private bathroom. Thanks to a friend's help, paid cash for it. Now, at 61, I am a State Corrections Officer with 5 years in. Five more to go before a 1/2 Pension. Six years before full Social Security.
    If I were younger, I would be doing what you are.
    I totally admire your hard work and life choices.

      Oh wow it sounds like you’ve been through a lot in your life! I’m so happy to hear that you bought your own place to live and that you are so close to retirement! My way of living is not for everybody so basically, my main goal in life is to get people to think twice about working too much. I had a 10 year relationship and raised three stepchildren, but I was so busy working and concerned about money that the relationship fell apart and I no longer see the kids anymore. I wished I would’ve taken my own advice back then if only to just not work over the weekends so I could do fun things with my family at the time. Now that I’ve had time alone , I’ve realized how precious life is and how the only thing we can’t get back is time. So I try to enjoy every day and be so grateful for all that I have! Most people would say I don’t have much, but in my eyes I have, everything I would ever need!
      Thank you so much for sharing your story and for watching 🙏 😊

      I've been there, except living in a vw. I raised my family. Mine, hers, ours. My job required I work Saturday. Was only supposed to be till noon but would usually not get off till 3. So much for a pleasant weekend. 21 yrs later she left. Always demanded more money. I already worked 12-14 hr days. I found my true love. Her dream home was same as mine and we made it happen until she passed. I lost a court battle and her wishes got thrown away by her family. I retired early, but now seem to work more than usual. I need to get back to an enjoyable life. Wish you luck.

    Hi Larry. Geez, you make that repair job look so simple. I notice a lot more DIY’ERs. My wife would attempt that job. Because of my back issues, I could at least cut and measure. I remember growing up no battery tools. How did we manage?Whatever power tools like circular saw you had to plug in and run a lead. Unfortunately, my dad wasn’t very handy so I couldn’t learn from anyone until now with TH-cam. My father-in-law would tackle it but at 88 father time has caught up with him. Anyway, thanks for sharing this. Till next camping video, good night from Florida.🌴🦎🐊🦟

    • @worklessenjoylifemore
      @worklessenjoylifemore  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Ahhh but those campers have a whole bunch of other issues 😂 . Those campers will leak just like the regular campers but those fiberglass ones hold all the water inside and rots the wood just as fast if not faster. These old metal siding campers will allow the water to drain and usually dry because they are drafty. A good example would be on Jonathan Yentch’s channel. He bought one and gutted it and you can see why I’m talking about.

    • @guyverfanboy
      @guyverfanboy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It is 💯 % the finest example of lipstick in a pig hahaha. It was the cheapest truck camper on marketplace!! I paid $2500 and not one thing worked in it 😂 oh and the roof leaked bad!! They sure have a mark up though. You've got to keep ahead on the maintenance on any of those, water is their worst enemy. I know you watch Kenny Of All Trades, it would be great to check your truck out while the camper is off so that you don't have the same problem he did. Awesome job Larry,I don't know a thing about repairing things like that, but the diamond plate you installed, will it need something protective over the bolts you screwed in , to keep from scratching the cab of you're truck? Or does it sit kinda above the cab? You are very good at many things, besides being a good dad to my friend Mason. Give Mason his Tuesday hug from Mississippi. Can't wait to see you two next Tuesday! Have a great week Mason & Larry.

      The camper sits about 6” above the cab of the truck so it should be fun from scratched unless the camper breaks again lol.

    Nice! Love the diamond plate! I was almost thinking you could have used treated lumber since it’s only a matter of time before it leaks again. Or, how about you diamond plate the front around the window down to the new part you installed? Then have the seem welded. That’s probably overkill but it would look cool, lol.

    • @worklessenjoylifemore
      @worklessenjoylifemore  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All very good ideas but due to time constraints and having to post weekly videos I had to fix it the best I could for now and hope it hold for a while haha. The original leak was from the front center marker light not having a seal around it so the water was pouring in!! So I constantly checking for leaks in that thing when it rains and I seal around those lights as soon as it looks like the caulk is getting weathered. I hope it won’t leak like it did long term anymore 🤷 crossing fingers hahaha

    So my camper hangs past my windshield. I wonder how it stays. Mine being an older one had some leaks before/ when i bought it. I know you didn't want to dig deeper into the damaged plywood.. it nasty last as long as it remains dry. But, being a builder myself, the time it takes to clean and do something correctly is time well spent. (The old silicone) removed...
