    I've been buying Tesla shares like crazy, no doubt I loved getting at these low prices under 900, but I am still super grateful and not selling a single share after the split either.

    Dave, thanks for all this great info. How was the pattern in the last stock split. You mentioned the price could run up now, which it has, and then again after the split a lot of new buy-ins. But, one more question on this. After the new buy-ins on the split, did you see a drop-down after a few weeks or month after all the new buy-ins? Is there a drop-off period and is that what occurred last time?

    1:38 Exactly. A 20:1 split would be great. A split is always great for the little people like me (and others). Personally I would prefer a 20:1 split rather than a 5:1 or 10:1. There are 2 reasons:
    1. Tesla is growing so fast, with a 10:1 split it could be in the $1000.- range again in about 3 years.
    2. Being able to buy TSLA below $100.- would really help (the little people).
    Let me explain: Let's say you have a budget of $500.-/month to spend on stock. Now let's look at the dilemma you are in this year (Jan - March 2022). After Q4 earnings and Berlin + Texas coming online soon (seen from a view in Jan) you have enough money to buy 1 share in March (maybe). But then TSLA drops below $1000.- (totally unexpected -> unbelievable bargain). So at what point do you buy that 1 share?
    If TSLA is at $1000.- you have only 1 chance to buy that 1 share. If TSLA is at $50.- you have several buying opportunities. 10 shares in Jan, 10 shares in Feb and 10 shares in March.
    Little people who are all in on Tesla will LOVE a TSLA stock price under $100.-, believe me!!!

    You didn’t address the most important question. Taxes. I know stock splits are non taxable events. But the way this one is described as a stock dividend has me worried. In your example you say if 10:1 split we will be given 9 shares as a dividend. Do we have to pay taxes as a dividend on that amount? I’d hope not. Not confirmation is needed?? Thanks!

    • @CL-gq3no
      @CL-gq3no 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is non-taxable. The 5:1 spilt from 2020 used the same "dividend" wording. Even if this one is slightly different it's still a "like for like" transaction which makes it non-taxable.

    Thanks Dave, to clarify the possible stock split sequences and the implied benefits for the shareholders. I think though we are just at the beginning of the two stock splits of many to come in the future. As I see a further one end of next year when all Giga will be humming and spitting out perfect EV at a crazy pace. While I see another when the FSD will finally reach perfection and starts to sell to other manufacturers as probably the only one available. I see the the number 5 split when the BOTS will be introduced in Tesla assembly lines speeding even further the most efficient assembly lines in the world, and I will stop at 6 when a possible consolidation of Space X and other ancillary Elon businesses I hope will come under Tesla same roof. I hope you do a video touching this subjet, I am sure far more professionally than my enthusiastic try.

    1. split announced
    2. split effected
    Here you are looking at the announcement of an announcement, which means that there was some urgency to release bullish news.

    i think they should do 20 to 1 .. for one reason this will make them the same price as there competitors like rivian and lucid. there is alot of people investing in other start ups with the hopes to "catch that tesla success" if elon can match that share price he can probably price out his competitors at very least make it very hard for them to find investors.. can snuff them out at least what 10-15% without so much as spending a dime :):)

    I feel like stock splits make no sense these days when you can just buy fractional shares. Increasing the amount of shares lowers the price but it also increases the amount of shares haha it doesn’t change anything fundamentally. The company production is going to stay the same which means the rate of return stays the same.

      @@paulharsh78, it did retract quite a bit in the short term (a couple months), but it certainly didn't retract in the long term. Having said that, both the retraction and the rise had little to do with the stock split and lots to do with more important factors. The retraction coincided with tech selling off hard and the price rise was from Tesla's business fundamentals becoming hard to ignore even for Tesla shorts.
