Nice to have you back Dave.
At 5:46, this is the most excited I’ve ever heard Dave 😂
Dave the only few folks where you actual follow the guideline and hold the steering wheel. Safety guidelines are in place for a reason, even the smallest chance can end a life. Also love hearing his explanation on everything. Feels like watching his other videos about Tesla but now with FSD. 👍
If that's your argument then don't use fsd at all? That's safest
Stay in bed all day every day it’s safest
Nice to have you back Dave, actully missed your content a lot, hope your family is well. If you find the motivation and time please consider being more active on youtube, dont be afraid to be inspired of some of Rob's content...
Handling the detour into the parking lot from both directions was VERY impressive to me.
Agreed
Thanks for the DD (due diligence) Dave!
Good seeing your videos Dave!
Thanks for sharing your v12.3 experience. It looks very impressive. Can’t wait for the update on my car. Is the current rollout limited to US? I’m in Canada.
thanks for the video. I was sorry to hear about your wife’s diagnosis, I hope she is doing well.
Thanks for the video. It almost looks like FSD is creating a synethic HD maps. Would love to see multiple drivers using different Teslas driving the same routes.
Dave hitting FSD with some great use cases!
Please post more Dave! I miss your Tesla insights. I’m curious what your thoughts are on AI, FSD, and Optimus competition with OpenAI
Amazing content Dave.
Thanks Dave!
Getting onto North Lamar (7:25) is not easy for any driver, north Lamar is the best place to test in Austin.
That spot where you did the first test used to always slow down because of the bridge ices before road sign, nice to see its finally fixed
v11 used to always try to drive into the barrier on the left at 4:50 (driving in the parking lane)
With v12.3 it is worth buying the FSD package, hope it comes unlimited to EU, note that we are still using a very old version from at least three years ago
EU officials are not influenced by TH-cam videos that are full of praise for FSD. EU officials test FSD personally, and when they see how many human interventions are required, then EU officials will not approve it.
I think EU deployment is many years away. Tesla will focus on USA and China.
In the US Tesla has had the benefit of an extensive beta testing program to help them develop their product and that whole exercise would need repeating in each market. Getting regulatory approval for that approach will be a big deal in the EU.
@@EwanM11 "Getting regulatory approval for that approach will be a big deal in the EU."
Yes, because Europe is much more focused on the safety of the average citizen, than accomodating large corporations. Well done EU.
@@EwanM11 If the FSD system is solid and trustworthy in USA, then why wouldn't it work in other countries too?
@@DerekDavis213 i expect it will, but will need training in the local driving practices by local drivers using a lot of video from local drives and then it will need tweaking to get rid of common mistakes as they occur. They will have a lot of that video already, but it will take time for each local deployment. And you'll need Tesla staff to go and train edge cases which are special to that country. And then there will be loads of testing to make sure it hasn't adopted any unsafe behaviours which have slipped into the training data. This is a lot of work, so Tesla will only deploy in countries with big market opportunities, i.e they sold a lot of cars already.
this is profound, upvoted!!!
I think it handled the scenario at 7:00 in the intersection perfectly.
I agree
Im guessing that Dave didn’t yet see the pedestrian crossing on the left-hand side, which is what it was yielding for and why it was hesitating. probably had plenty of time before they crossed however it still handled the intersection well
It did it perfect . we had a person crossing the street
also agree. it had to wait for the pedestrian
We need Grok into the cars so we can talk to it :) Then we can tell the car if it was good or bad behaviour in real time
I notice the same and agree, when Auto speed goes away on highway, you are back to a different stack. I’d guess 11.4.9.
Dave, do you see this as a value? (The fsd). I was thinking that, if I have to pay attention all the time that is almost more work for me since I have to be anxious about what the car is doing. How do you see it?
Dave,
Please do a deep dive with James Douma
Thanks Dave. It's clear that FSD cannot READ the sings - it is so far doing pattern recognition - but it needs to be able to use a LLM to process the signs as a higher level directive to the system. Even Musk has said it needs to do this. But when? It's not an easy thing to safely combine heuristics with end to end neural nets
everybody testing edge cases~
which means normal cases are no issues
Thank you Dave! Love reality❤
Dave, any opinion on Figure AI (+OpenAI) robot demo?
Yes Dave, if more compute is the answer to refining V12 then Elon and Team will do their best to make it happen. So exciting to see what is possibly the answer to Robo Taxi and better than human driving.
Thanks for sharing. We appreciate it! But Omg why do we still have misses? It should be perfect by now especially in mild conditions.
V12 is a new build and is entirely different from v11, as it is based on neural nets and not heuristics. Thus it has had to retrain from the start. One advantage of v12, however, is that it learns at a much faster rate than v11. It has already overtaken v11 in a fraction of the time. But remember, this is the real world, with countless scenarios to be mastered. I personally believe v12 will show noticeable improvement every 3 months or so.
Sick!!!!
Dave any comments on q1 deliveries? You always make a video after
Hey Dave. 😘
8:03 I‘ve been in similar situations driving on my own. I guess, if you would had waited, FSD would have taken the chance of the next gap to enter the right lane, just like a human driver would have done.
If we only knew why it got better so much. Is it just the training compute increase?
Dave it really looks like you are the one turning the steering wheel 😅
Just tried out the free FSD trial Tesla has provided for 30 days, and car navigates pretty darn well, except when you reach the destination, it seems to stop without actually parking in a parking spot. Is this something FSD cannot yet do? Just wondering as this is all new to me.
Nvidia announced their advancements with self driving AI and teaming up with BYD.
Dave, My experience with fsd is it’s almost useless. You should do a couple of videos with random FSD users to see if you can replicate your experience.
I agree with you. Even with the latest 12.3 FSD update, it didn't quite live up to the hype Elon Musk shared on X. I know it’s Beta but still 😅
@@MichaelChoi You want to talk about hype? It was eight years ago that Elon said: Soon FSD will drive you from Los Angeles to New York, door to door, automatically. That was 8 years ago!
We miss you Dave.
will FSD (AI version) ever know it makes a mistake or know to alert the driver when it encountered a situation it doesn’t know what to do. I‘d feel safer if it is capable of detecting the unknown and alert the driver proactively
how does one get FSD 12?
I am from Austin, this is pretty incredible. It is covering like 99% of the day to day scenarios very well.
The way it is, I think you can drive hundreds of miles without a disengagement.
Watch other TH-cam videos about 12.3. Several disengagements in 5 minutes.
@@DerekDavis213 Yeah but they are fixable in the next few months. The issues are speed maintenance and lane turn issues which can be fixed in a few months, ofcourse there is Unprotected left turns which will probably take a few more months, nothing big really.
@@harishyala You HOPE they are fixable in the next few months, but that is not guaranteed. Remember that FSD has been in beta testing for almost 4 years, and it still cannot be trusted.
FSD = Fully Supervised Driving
This is an intrusive question so I do apologize, but hope your wife is doing well. Best wishes to you and your lovely family.
Hey Dave, your take is highly appreciated. Could you maybe with James go into the reasoning re the shift from heuristics to neural nets and why this was not done sooner ? For a layman like me this seemed to be the way to go from the get go. Thanks !
Agree that would be interesting to understand why it wasn't done sooner...perhaps they knew it was ultimately the way to go but hardware/processing limitations at the time prevented it from being done earlier?
@@alanvonweltin6820 good point, SMR highlighted that in his video today, saying Tesla has been very clear that the solution to FSD is not a data issue, but compute power. Knowing how fast processor power has evolved this would mean that it was indeed not possible earlier on. Staggering fact that is, and the realisation how much power you need to bring to the table to run these systems. It also illustrates China can't win this game as long as chip sanctions are effective.
Thanks Dave. I feel it’s improved slightly too, but on occasion had to be stopped from taking rights on red where there is a clearly visible sign preventing it and has missed exits due to hesitation. Still a beta product.
Man, you guys should be paid by Tesla. You all are great teachers to FSD kiddo
FSD will have to be perfect every time in every situation for robotaxi. How is that possible?
If it is stuck, like waymo, there can be a remote operator guiding it.
if it gets stuck once in a week, it is fine, not a big deal.
@@harishyala That’s not how FSD works.
@@jkimo1178 You think tesla will get to L5 from L2 directly in 2 years ?
Do you think waymo is stupid to do L2, tesla will go to L4 or L3, be there for a few years and make money.
It can get to L5 with human level intelligence which we dont know when it will happen.
@@harishyala I don’t think it will make the jump to L5 from L2.
I do know that the vehicles are designed to run FSD without supervision or an internet connection, so what you said about the car being taken over remotely will not happen. Plus, millions of Teslas will be running FSD soon.
@@jkimo1178 Any car without internet connection is screwed. It cant run a robotaxi at L4 without some form of internet connection.
You are fundamentally mistaken between regular FSD and what it takes to run a robotaxi FSD. As you said the car will not function everywhere. Tesla has no choice but to take the waymo route using remote operators if the car is stuck.
Tesla only need to run a 1000 people call center to service all the millions of cars running 24/7 which is not difficult and practical just like waymo already showed it.
When do you think that FSD will actually respond to verbal comands and actually listen to what is said by the driver for training if ever?
Wow, hadn’t thought of this use case but good callout. I’ll guess 5 years before it’s ever tossed and 7 before it’s useful.
Was that corecct at 16:12 ? It looks like FSD didn't see that guy on the street walk. Should FSD not stop for the crosswalk? Thx
Seems like the person was pushing a button, and there’s lights there. I wonder if the crosswalk is on a traffic light. Agreed that it looks dodgy
So they completely revamped their FSD technology twelve months ago, and it trounces their prior autonomous driving technology?
What's to say any of the tech heavyweights can't match this performance within the next twelve months?
They don’t have the data
Training data, it’s ALL about the quantity and quality of training data.
@@rkalla All the training data in the world won't help FSD to respond in a split-second to a strange or unexpected situation on the road.
Human drivers can adapt instantly.
@@DerekDavis213most human drivers crash their cars when this sort of thing happens. I think you give human drivers too much credit.
The insurance data says that it is the drivers which see hazards from afar, avoid risky situations, do not create dangerous situations (i.e. they are not rushing) and drive slower that have less accidents compared to people who have their lightning reflexes on standby, e.g. older drivers vs younger drivers.
@@DerekDavis213 you are incorrect
Do you have FSD or a beta test version of FSD??
Has anyone seen xiaomi ev premiering at USD$29,000? The finish, quality n performance is outstanding! Tsla has been caught with pants down!!! Elon Musk distraction by X n complacency abt Chinese ev makers is haunting tsla now! Within 24hr of launch, pre orders hit almost 89,000 ev! Dave, Your opinions please
When are we gonna be able to talk to our car???? I want to say KITT take me home ❤
all i can say is it's only a matter of time before they incorporate something like grok into FSD, where it can read what it sees and "understand" it. That's kind of a type of training that has nothing to do with FSD intrinsically, which is exciting and slightly worrisome. Exciting in that i think it would be easy to specifically train for, and we probably already have the AI capability to do such pretty easily, worrisome in that perhaps integrating it into the neural net could cause some friction as opposed to seemingly just raw "good driving" data without any coding of human rules.
FSD
FSD I'm in love. Problem: EU is actually technophobic. They still call cell phones "gadgets". And they have a mortal fear of javascript cookies. Sad but true, no FSD for us for now. But I did buy it, so at least with your great videos, I have FSD in my mind and virtually in my car, TM3 LR.
EU is very protective of the average man on the street. USA needs more of that attitude.
@@DerekDavis213 that's a good point. But I think that EU is less protective of pedestrians in parking lots, and so often pedestrians need to share sidewalk with street. My impression is that EU as a whole (excluding most norther three countries) are deeply technophobic and afraid of change.
@@thomasschwarz1973 In USA, we have the impression that Norway, Sweden, Finland are strong in tech, and also Germany, France, UK, and Italy too.
@@DerekDavis213 right, I am from Chicago, 9 years now I live in southern Austria. Keep in mind the EU has practically destroyed about 10% (my impression as a web developer) of the usability of the entire internet by demanding that all websites have a popup dialog that asks you three questions about the use of cookies. Cookies are not edible and not dangerous in themselves, they are a very small and controlled amount of client side data that a web server can ask a web browser to store for things like remembe me, and preferences. It's like Grandma and Grandpa made an internet security decision straight out of kindergarten. Then they have this amazingly naive DSVO data protection rules which are insanely naive and innafective in inhibiting businesses from using your data to do sales targeting. It's just one joke after another. So I live here but work exclusively for a USA company.
Guess its still 2 years away from unsupervised fsd.
At a minimum.
While impressive, this needs to be tested in different cities - Austin is used by Tesla for their testing
Impressive when passing the bus at th-cam.com/video/L17uC3COqh8/w-d-xo.html . But that is not actually allowed in Germany. The bus had its hazard lights on and there might have been people around it (e.g loading it) so the car could have potentially passed it but only very very slowly.
Hey Dave, I just got back from an FSD drive from Los Gatos to Saratoga (CA). The v12 did marginally fine, but the nags were driving crazy! Please ask Tesla to lessen the nags. Cheers!
I think FSD's ChatGPT monent has arrived. For the first time, the architecture looks capable, with enough training data and compute, to sufficiently solve autonomy.
Watch how FSD 12.3 handles busy streets in San Francisco or New York.
ChatGPT moment is still far away.
3:11 Come on man... we are now complaining about frieking AI that's able to SAFELY cross 4 (for with an OH!) frieking lanes!!!!????? Jeezus! talk bout tough crowds!
…. When do you think that we will see a down trend in the national figures for traffic deaths/accidents which can be directly attributed to TESLA and FSD like behavior?
FSD is very close now
Very close to what? Several TH-cam videos show lots of human intervention is still needed on 12.3
I'm confident in TSLA as a company re: my investment....where I'm growing concerned is EM's behavior infront of the camera. Even tho I'm underwater on my position, I have time on my side to hold for 10yrs. Anyone else feel similar? Uggggh
I guess teslabot may be out sooner than FSD cause bot in a more controlled environment is more tolerant to mistakes.
Mazda SkyactiveER extended range has an internally built battery charger that self charges on the road from initial 85km to extended 600km without need to plug into an external charging kiosk! Seems tsla ev innovation is losing to competitors n has been immersing itself in own echo chamber? Discount the Chinese n Japanese at its own perils!
th-cam.com/video/0KtM_5SiMRY/w-d-xo.html ?
austin is not a beauty at first glance
Used to be
Dave you are to nervous. You hold the wheel. You have to give a little. That is why they have to do this slowly. People not used to will have problems letting go.
Agree 100%
This is not an investing channel it’s a Tesla channel why don’t you talk about anything else ?
It's so obvious how accidents would be reduced if AI takes over. No more lane hogs, no more slow pokes.
At 8:30 That really infuriates me. I've seen in it many videos. People go "Oh my god it has stopped, I am going to disengage!" and disengage. Give the car the time it needs )or WE need) to make a decision!! Jeez! We'd like to see how it gets out of there.
Imagine if scientist, when running an experiement, they always wen't "oh my god something we don't expect is happening... stop the experiemnt!". Bah!
Why don’t you just steer it yourself, what’s the big deal re self drive. Yawn.
Full self driving is years and years and years away to be legalized which leaves zero income for tesla only their pitiful car sales
It’s already operating in several states
Doomed 😂😂😂
That's a weird takeaway from this video
Must be really rough for all the companies without the best selling car in the world
"Pitiful car sales" while litteraly having the most sold car in the world
DAVE! what don't you understand. Tesla is doomed! I have been pounding the table for months and months yet nobody listens
Doomed!!!! 😂🎉
DOOMED! 💀
Please Dave keep your hands off the wheel - it so looks like your driving a lot of times. You only need to touch the wheel once in a while to let it know you are paying attention. All the haters will say you drive the car :) - Good job though, Thanks
