All you did was drain the filter when you flipped it over. The particulates don’t come out so the whole glass jar thing was a waste of time. You should have cut the filter housing open and looked at the element inside to see the particulates.

Is it possible to drain water off of the filter without changing it? Just to check if there's water in your fuel.

Only on certain types of fuel water separator. Those will have a valve at the bottom

Thanks for the informative video. I'm not a super mechanical guy but I'm having issues with my OMC 4.3L getting fuel. I am going to try changing the water separator and see if that makes a difference. Do boats usually have a separate fuel filter besides the water separator?

I just put one on an omc 5.0 cobra, a 30 year old engine....working on getting it to turn over eventually...could it possibly hurt the fuel pump it I put it in as instructed with no fuel...also it said oil for the seal for coatin..which thought was strange considering it's a fuel/water filter... that ok as well?

Question, Do you have to fill the water separator with Fuel prior to installation? My filter recommends it to keep air from the fuel lines. However, it's in a tight spot and I have to put in the filter at an angle so I wanted to avoid pre-filling if possible. I figured the air would be replaced with fuel any way. Any thoughts?

Justin I have? for you. I have a 2001 Mercury 150 EFI outboard motor, there is an in line fuel filter. I can find any information if there is a fuel water separator located on this engine. If there is no separator I would like to put sit up a system. Could you hook me up with information on where to buy a separator system? Thanks for your time.

If your boat has a gas tank, then yes.

When to change? After or before boating season?

I just installed a new seperator on m yboat. It had been siting for a year with a full tank of gas. It's possible there may have been some water build over that time. Is it ok for me to just dump it out, and reinstall without having to constantly buy a new one every time?

I wouldn't leave fuel sitting for a year.

That's not righty-tighty lefty-loosie when looking from the top (as nearly everyone will be).

It is from the perspective of the filter, so you need to imagine you are unscrewing it from underneath.
