DIY CHANGE FUEL WATER SEPARATOR OUTBOARD MOTOR

During our 100 hour service on our 25 horse power Yamaha 4 stroke outboard motor, we needed to change out our fuel water separator. While it is a relatively easy job to do, there are a few ideas that came in very helpful as my friend and marine mechanic, Jon Slepian, walked me through what a fuel water separator does, how it works and the best way to change them out.

YOUR CAST NET IS ONE OF YOUR BEST FRIENDS - We use high quality nets because we rely on them to catch us bait. We always use lead weighted nets and small mesh size is very important. We like ¼” mesh. You will spend a little more but you’ll catch bait and keep them healthy! Here is a good brand of nets:

What if you have a leak at the fitting and hose. Would that cause my motor to not crank over?

If it’s letting air in the gas line because of the leak then that could definitely keep it from starting
