    Thanks for the video.When I change my water fuel separator I always put a little oil on the rubber gasket that way it will not stick to the fuel line mount.If you have a high moisture location like I have on my boat.

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I seen that some people do that put a little bit of oil in the gasket but where my filter is located there is no moisture there is very dry as you saw the filter have no rust but that's a great suggestion it helps for the future to remove the filter thanks for the great suggestion captain

    Hi OOTR, Nice video! My Yamaha filters also look clean when I cut them apart. My old diesel boats had Racors where you could see the fuel, filter and see water if there was water in the clear bowl. Saved money by only needing to change the filters when they needed to be changed. Some of your subscribers mentioned in the comments to install a similar filter. but it is against the regulations (ABYC standards) to install the gasoline filter with the clear-bowl and drain-cock, if the filter is installed below decks in an enclosed area where there could be an ignition spark. (Like a battery; bilge pump; electric solenoid, etc.) .... I change both of the gasoline filters on my boat every 100 hours (about 2-3 times per year) and they are always clean as new. I use only Valvtec non-ethanol gasoline, and only from a local marina that sells the most gasoline.... fresher gas!.... I look forward to all of your videos!
    (The suggestion in the comments, below, to put a little oil on the filters gasket is that it makes it easier to take off when you change the filter; same reason we put a little oil on the gasket of the engines oil filter when we change it)......

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the great info it's always good to know those things about fuel separator and I always use seafoam oh my fuel and I use ethanol-free that's why my fuel filter is very clean and the only concerned about putting a little bit of oil on the seal of the fuel filter was that I did not want oil residue going inside the injectors.
      I think I'm very picky that's all.
      Thanks for watching on my videos captain I also look forward to seeing yours and navigate safe

    You shouldn't over tighten the filter it can cause cracking of the o ring, and cause seeping of fuel. The softness of the seal is enough to keep a good seal and keep fuel from seeping out. I know everyone has a mentality to over tighten things but in this case hand tight is enough.

    I don't know if the gasket is designed to handle that extra "1/4 turn" with the wrench. Never done anything more than hand tight on anything, never had a leak. I do make sure that my hands and the filter housing are clean and dry so that my hand-tight really is :)

      @OutOnTheReef  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What's that is crazy

    • @OutOnTheReef

      Why you didn't have the manufacturer install it for you?

    • @yumyum408
      @yumyum408 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont know, we didnt have any idea they werent coming installed. I told my husband it's very deceiving when they give you a date. We went to the boat show Sept 7th and ordered the boat, then tweaked some things in the next few days like wanting a second helm. Sept 11th I wired 20% to them to complete the order. He told us sept 7th at the show the boat will be in the first week of October. On Sept 11th when I sent the down payment I asked him again about the date. He then said "the first or second week in October". Oct 9th I texted and asked about any word on the ETA and he said it's coming the next shipment "hoping for mid next week". On Oct 16th he texted the boat was in. I said "ok. Well when can we pick up?". I was thinking they would just say give us a day to prep and let us know to schedule it. But he texted back "just need to get final payment and I'll get it ready." I texted back that I thought it's like buying a car and I want to see the boat b4 paying for it...its just weird bc they have 20% of your $$ , that should cover us and them if we back out for any reason. Well after going back and forth, I said well I guess I'll drive down there 2 hour tomorrow and check out the boat and if everything is alright I'll give u a bank check. So he then called me and said he explained to his boss how far we are and said we can just set up the pickup date and bring the check.
      He said to set up a pick up date is like a week and a half to 2 weeks!!! Bc they have to order the electronics, install them and detail the boat. It's just crazy to me they wouldnt have already ordered the electronics or already have them in stock..crazy. I mean we didnt order anything crazy, its what they said comes with the boat Garmin 942 XS and Garmin VHF.
      So to wrap up the story, when a customer asks when the boat will be in, it doesnt necessarily mean that's when u can take delivery 😠 so I think that's pretty deceptive. It's not like we like in Florida, people around here have already tucked their boats away for the winter. Some still brave through another month doing striper fishing but most boats are pulled out of the water mid Oct and the marina closes.

    What about priming it?

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You could do that, but it takes time. The only best way to do it is filling it up with fuel, it's the fastest.

    Bad idea to put tight end the filter with an extra 1/4 turn. The o ring is designed to expand under pressure and tightening it down hardens it and doesn’t allow it to expand.

    You forgot rub oil on the filter gasket

    • @OutOnTheReef
      @OutOnTheReef  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no moisture there so there will be no rust it's going to be okay I will change it in about a year

      @@OutOnTheReef You should still put oil on that seal because it will make taking it off in the future a lot easier. I've seen them seize on there pretty good.

      @@Gmtail that's a great suggestion captain especially when the filter gets hit with salt water it really can get stuck there thanks for the great suggestion

    never tighten a filter with a wrench. you risk damaging the o ring. also not sure why you put gas in the filter before installing it. that seems unnecessary
