    This was so helpful!! Thank you! “Hormonal training wheels” is a perfect way to understand this ❤

    I'm almost 9 weeks postpartum, and at 5-6 ppd. I am getting 40-50 ounces daily now that I've gotten a pump that works well for me. I'm not planning on dropping a pump, should I expect my supply to stay similar when my supply regulates? Also, how do you know it has regulated? I don't get engorged unless I miss my MOTN session (only has happened a handful of times when I've been sick) or if I have a blocked duct. I pump every 2-3 hours during the day and about every 4 at night.

    I’m 9wpp, pumping 6ppd and produce ~50oz per day. Is it ok for me to drop the MOTN pump to 5ppd? I’m ok if my supply drops to 35-40oz per day

      This is probably somewhat low risk but without us knowing why you are making so much milk with less than average pump sessions it's hard for me to say with any type of actual certainty

    Im 8 weeks PP. I get anywhere from 62-68 oz/day. I pump q4h and get about 10 oz total each pump aside from the morning pump where i get about 12-15 oz total. I also exclusuvely pump. I quit after about 1.5 months of pumping with my first child (im on my 2nd now) because the pumping q2h was so emotionally and physically exhausting. I know theres a lot of factors, but do you think with my pumping schedule and the supply i see now that once i regulate i can still sustain my average amount or do you think my habits now are going to cause my supply to crash?

      This is really complicated because if you had one baby this pumping schedule shouldn’t be creating this amount of milk. Which would be the supply is acting out of the ordinary and we would need to assess more about why thats happening to determine the risk in dropping. But there should be room to modify if you are okay with a more typical supply

      I’m almost six weeks post partum and am only pumping at most an ox on both sides help I feel my baby doesn’t eat well at the breast unless I’m engorged and it is easy for her to

    I’m 7 weeks postpartum, I currently pump 8 times a day, which is also how many times a day baby eats! I typically pump every 3 hours, sometimes at night I’ll go 4 hours max, but make up for it during the day by only going 2 hours before the next session.
    I currently make between 45 and 50 oz a day. I’d love to consistently get 50 or close to it going forward. Am I doing the right things? I don’t want sent into a crazy oversupply, but I’d still like to have somewhat of an oversupply so I can stop pumping early! He takes around 32-36 oz a day.
    I appreciate any advice you may have 😁 thank you for your content and support for us mamas!

      I actually think you are doing great! I think your body is producing really well for the stimulation you are providing and don't see a reason you would drop at this point if you continue the 2-3 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night. I'm not sure without looking at a full history if there is potential to drive the supply up but if you want to discuss that I am happy to work with you!

      @@genuinelactation thank you so much!! Just wanted to make sure I’m on the right track!! Hoping to go longer at night eventually, but trying to hold strong till I’m at least 12 weeks pp! I will definitely reach out for an online consultation if I end up needing to drive supply up at any point!❤️

    Does this work the same if you have a premature birth?

    • @genuinelactation
      @genuinelactation  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually no- in my professional opinion premature birth results in earlier regulation because of the disruption to the normal hormonal process. It certainly doesn't mean lactation doesn't work but there does appear to be less room for error!

      @@genuinelactation thank you. My child was 12 weeks premature and I could never get a straight answer about regulation. It’s really tough because obviously his consumption was not that of a full-term baby at that time and I wasn’t able to breastfeed him normally so it was so hard to get to producing a full supply even with regular pumping. I had one day of pumping 24 ounces around week 3, but it dropped off after that and I never recovered.

      @@genuinelactation My experience is the same. I had an extremely premature baby in my second trimester, and I was expecting the big coming in of the milk, but didn't have it. Instead, my supply slowly increased, pumping 8 times a day, one in the middle of the night as they instructed me in the hospital (I'm in Switzerland) until reached full lactation. My breasts never felt too full and I never had any of the typical things of the first weeks of lactation (like leaking, strong let downs and that stuff), but I built a good supply. It felt like my breasts started already regulated. My theory is that, since I skipped the third trimester, the "hormonal kickstart" was much weaker. This would explain why there's less room for error, but the bright side is that, even with extreme prematurity, seems possible to build a full milk supply if you pump correctly, or at least it was for me :)
