      @@jullieannesanpedro42 Thanks for the question. Start by using cabbage leaves. Place them in the fridge and when they are cold put them on your breasts and keep them there until they are warm and wilted. Some of the chemicals in cabbage help dry up your milk. You can also start drinking peppermint tea which can help. When you take a shower, try to avoid having the warm water hit your breasts because that can stimulate milk production. Finally, ask your doctor if you can take Benadryl. Taking Benadryl for 1 week can really help dry up your milk.

      I am about to wean my toddler from breastfeeding. He's 22 months old. The thing is, he doesn't like to drink milk from bottle. Been trying to wean him for two days but he ended up crying last night. Do you have any suggestions or tips for me? Thank you.

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@anitamayangsari8784 Thanks for the question! First, he doesn't need to drink from the bottle. A lot of breastfed toddlers do not like an artificial nipple in their mouth. You can give him his milk in a sippy cup instead which may help. For weaning toddlers I recommend the use of Band-Aids. Before putting him to bed, go to the bathroom alone and put Band-Aids on your nipples. Then start your bedtime routine and sit down with the cup of milk. When your son asks, show him your bandaged nipples and explain that you have a "boo boo" or "owie" or whatever term you use for pain/injury and you can't offer him milk tonight because it will hurt you. Then offer the milk in the cup, keeping your son close while you do. If your son accepts this explanation, which a lot of kids do, continue this practice for a few days. After 3-4 days, don't open your shirt but remind him you can't breastfeed. Continue this until he stops asking. It can take a week or 2 but it really can work! If your son is particularly resistant, you may have to have a family member put your son to sleep for a full week and then start this process. Good luck!

Can I use cabbage to stop breast milk on the affected side only and let my baby feed on the non affected side? I have plugged ducts on affected side too, should I continue to massage or will that stimulate for milk to come out? Please help!

    Thank. YOU! I had a spontaneous delivery at 5 months and lost my son. I spent two nights in the hospital due to POC still present on ultrasound (which I’m still passing 3 days later).
    With all the monitoring no one told me my milk would come in soon. It came in last night and it is so painful and unexpectedly depressing. My d/c instructions say to call my OB-Gyn for more info on how to dry up milk. . .in 2022 in a city that is a medical hub. . .I’m not sure who has a direct line to a doctor. I needed relief NOW! I went out first thing and bought a pump. I pumped much less than an ounce for relief, but now that I have watched your video I think I will try a the cabbage leaves.
    I’m so terrified of the healthcare system (and I work in it) that I’m not sure what to do.

    My milk supply started to decrease after my first period (5 month after birth) and by my baby was 8 month old, I did not have enough milk to feed her. She only needed a few feedings until she was hungry enough to accept formula and from there on, I breastfed her with what little I had and then gave formula to her. After a month she was only breastfeeding in the morning, and after another, she only got milk every second day. It has been 4 days I completely stopped breastfeeding and other than some discomfort and fullness of the breasts, I'm doing great so far and hope it stays that way.

I drank no flow tea 3-4 times a day, and used cabbage leaves for weeks and still was producing until several weeks into my SECOND pregnancy in 2021-2022. Lol my second baby is 1 now, and I have produced much less throughout my journey with her, and now that I am weening, I’m doing all the same stuff as last time but with way less engorgement and leaking. I don’t even leak through my shirt without a bra on. Not sure why this happened the second time around but I’m not complaining! Lol

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for asking. Tylenol and Ibuprofen are usually the best. If you choose to take Tylenol, you need to follow the directions on the bottle exactly. Any extra can cause liver failure. Before taking Ibuprofen, you should check with your provider. Ibuprofen shouldn't be taken if you have high blood pressure or kidney problems without a provider's knowledge. Ibuprofen can upset your stomach so make sure to take it with a little food. Some crackers are fine. It doesn't need to be a whole meal. Please remember to like my video and subscribe to the channel. Thanks for asking! Cabbage leaves have been used for years and really work well. You can also ice your breasts three times per day. In addition, drinking sage tea and peppermint tea can help. Wear a bra 24 hours a day until the milk dries out. Do NOT bind your breasts as this can cause infection and plugged ducts. If the milk is very bothersome, ask your healthcare provider if its ok for you to take Sudafed which can be bought in your local drugstore. Sudafed can help dry up your milk. Good luck! If you can, please like my video and subscribe to my channel. It really helps me out! Thanks!

      @TheMaternityMentor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Just speak with your healthcare provider first to make sure its safe for you. Claritin and Benadryl can both help dry up your milk. Claritin can cause insomnia and a racing heart. Make sure to take as directed. Benadryl can cause sleepiness so don't drive a vehicle or make any major life decisions while taking it. Also take as directed. Remember the alternative treatments are very helpful as well and can be used with the medicine like mint tea, ice, and cabbage leaves

      I am so sorry for the loss of your baby. Taking Sudafed while using cabbage leaves and ice packs is the quickest way to dry up breastmilk. Wear a bra all day and night until the milk dries up. Don't let too much warm water run on your breasts. Cold cabbage leaves every hour. Peppermint tea is also good. Take the Sudafed as directed. Do NOT take extra as it can cause heart palpitations. • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an excellent question! Drying up your milk supply should not affect your milk supply in your next pregnancy. In fact our bodies usually get better at making milk with each new baby. However, things sometimes happen. I have worked with women that for a variety of reasons including their baby being sick or in the NICU, retained placenta, and more - the breast milk was delayed. If this should happen to you, be sure to seek help right away. It was not caused by drying up your milk previously but instead probably has another cause. Also feel free to check out my video on increasing your milk supply for your next baby!

      Thanks for asking! I'm sorry to hear that. The process can take a week or more in some women. She should apply cold cabbage leaves once per hour. She can ice her breast 4 times per day for 20 minutes. Drink peppermint tea. Make sure she is wearing a bra but don't bind her breasts. Binding actually increases the risk of infection and plugged ducts. Finally, talk to her provider about Benadryl. Benadryl can be really helpful in drying up milk.

But it’s been a month since I stopped and I noticed a bump next to my nipple it hurts really bad, I thought it was a pimple or maybe a clogged duct. But i noticed what looked like a tiny hole in the middle. So I tried to squeeze it and it popped and white puss, blood, and a clear liquid came out… but the bump didn’t go down. Now I just have a huge bump that looks like a second nipple and it’s purple and it’s still painful. I did a warm compress but all that did was stimulate my milk again. What do I do?

    Thank you for the great video! I am t rying to dry up my supply after 16 months exclusively pumping. I have one question for you though, I am trying to gradually drop pumps and shorten the length of pumps I am doing (I am down to 2 ppd now). Does hand-expressing milk also result in stimulating your body to produce more ( the same as pumping)? If, for instance, I hand-express some milk in the hot shower, will that encourage my body to produce more just as pumping would? Thank you again for the great video and sharing your information.

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for asking. Hand expression can be very effective and very stimulating for some women. Breastfeeding and the production of breastmilk is a very natural process. Breastmilk is produced by hormones that respond to sight, scent, sound, and touch. Therefore, hand expression is sometimes even more effective than pumping. Studies have shown that early hand expression can actually increase your milk supply. Hot showers can also stimulate milk production. If you are looking to switch from pumping to hand expression, try it. It might be a great last step for you. If you find your milk increasing, decrease the time and use lots of cabbage leaves and ice. Please like my video if you don't mind and subscribe to the channel. It really helps me out. Thank you!

    Hi mam , am struggling to stop milk supply. During night times my daughter is drinking milk continuously . Pls help me to stop milk supply complete . Is there any side effects in taking tablet to stop milk supply doctor advised me to take cabgolin 0.5 .pls help me out

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for asking! Cabergoline has many side effects including dizziness, racing heart, weight gain, nausea and vomiting. I would start by using ice and cabbage leaves on your breasts to assist with drying up your milk supply. Also start offering your daughter a bottle when she wants to breastfeed instead of your breasts. This should hopefully help. That being said, Cabergoline is effective at drying up your breast milk supply. Good luck!

      The Maternity Mentor great but how long it will take to dry up the milk? Cold cabbage leaves I can store in the fridge n use it? How many times in day? Please clarify

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@tsv2031 You can use the cabbage leaves every 2 to 3 hours. You wash the leaves first and dry them. Then place in fridge until cold. After that you apply to breasts and remove when they are wilted. As for how long it takes to dry up milk, everyone is different. It depends on how long you have been producing breast milk for and how robust your supply is. Most women can dry up their supply in 3-7 days.

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for asking. I would hand express or pump some milk off. If you try to stop too quickly, that can happen. Apply warm compresses to the clogged ducts and massage them before pumping. You need to pump once until the breasts are soft. Then, the next time they fill empty most of the milk but not all. Use cold compresses and cabbage leaves. If you develop a fever or feel very ill, you need to contact your doctor

    I have plastic surgery in a month and I can not have any breast milk. I’ve stopped breastfeeding for two months, I don’t leak anymore but I can see the milk in my nipples. What can I do? I don’t want to change my surgery date?!!

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the question! I wouldn't change your surgery date yet. Instead I would contact your doctor and ask if you can start taking Benadryl every 6 hours or Claritin every 12 hours. Benadryl can make you sleepy so you probably shouldn't drive a car. Also, make sure you get real Benadryl which is sold behind the counter at the pharmacy. The stuff on the shelf is a different ingredient and won't dry up breast milk. Claritin can give you insomnia and make your heart race. This is why you should check with your doctor. Also, you need to make sure those medications are ok to take in the month leading up to your surgery. In addition, you can start drinking peppermint tea three to four times per day. I would also ice your breasts three or four times per day for 10 minutes which is good practice for your surgery because you will probably use ice afterwards as well. Finally, you could ask your doctor to order a prolactin level blood test. If you haven't been breastfeeding in a month, your prolactin level should be close to normal. If its still high, than that could be causing the breast milk and your doctor may want to investigate medical causes for why your prolactin level is still high.

    I haven't been breast feeding my daughter much. I pumped about twice a day with hand expression as well about 30 minutes. Today I breast fed her four times. I'm not sure how much to pump now or how much to breastfeed her the following day for a slow process of making the milk dry up. I really don't want to get an infection.

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for asking! I would start pumping/hand expressing for less time. 20 minutes 4 times per day for 4 days, then 15 minutes 4 times per day for 4 days, then 10 minutes, etc.. That should avoid infection. Ask your healthcare provider if you can use Sudafed. Also, ice your breasts 3 to 4 times per day and use cabbage leaves. Feel better.

      @TheMaternityMentor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for asking! You need to use cold cabbage leaves every hour, drink peppermint tea, and ask your healthcare provider if you can take Sudafed. As far as pumping, if you normally pump every 3 hours, extend it to every 3.5 hours for 3 days, then every 4 hours for 3 days, then every 4.5 hours for 3 days, then every 5 hours for 3 days, etc. This can help your body adjust and helps reduce your milk supply. How can I dry my milk supply cold turkey. I’m on day 3 now, my daughter no longer gets the boob i’ve never pumped she was exclusively only breastfeed on boob only no bottles. I only offer her 4oz water at nap in the day time and also at night. surprisingly it’s been going quite smoothly the first day was the rough one. My boobs are so engorged and i’m barley starting to feel pain today around them. Can i start using the cabbage and just remove every 2 hrs and put new ones in? Thanks in advance! :)

    • @TheMaternityMentor
      @TheMaternityMentor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the comment! Yes! You can definitely use cabbage leaves every 2 hours. You can also start using mint teas, especially peppermint which can help. Apply ice 3 or 4 times per day in between the cabbage. Benadryl or Claritin can also help to dry up your milk supply fast when taken as directed but make sure to check with your doctor to ensure it's safe for you. If you are engorged, please keep an eye on your breasts. If you see redness or red streaking or develop a painful lump, you need to talk with your doctor because it may be mastitis or a plugged duct which can lead to infection. If this happens, you want to pump and empty your breasts and then continue with all the remedies mentioned above. Also, if you develop a fever with engorgement, that may be mastitis.

      @TheMaternityMentor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dianas6396 You're welcome! Yes - take the Benadryl as directed on the bottle. Be aware Benadryl can make you sleepy so it may interfere with work and you may not be able to drive safely. That is why you can also use Claritin. However Claritin 24 hour can cause insomnia. There may also be interactions with other medications you may be taking which is why talking with your provider may help. Definitely don't get up in the middle of the night to change cabbage leaves but during the day change them every 2 hours if you can. Leaving them on longer won't hurt you, they just may not be very effective after 2 hours. Finally, if the lumps are little, you can try to massage them to alleviate the lump. Larger painful lumps are more serious and may require a pumping session to remove.

      Thanks for asking! This is very difficult for most parents. First, it is going to involve a lot of tears. There is just no way around this. I would recommend you put bandaids on your nipples and explain you have a "boo boo" or "ouchy" and you cannot breastfeed. At his age, he should understand this concept. Then at night, continue your bedtime routine as usual. Use positive reinforcement when he is coping well. You may need to use bandaids for a few weeks until he gradually forgets to ask. Stay strong! There will be times he cries and you will need to say no. It should get better. within a week.
