I know you're half joking because this seems like a tired subject, but it's something that, at least in this very specific niche of short barrels, for short range, when using a suppressor but still supersonic ammo, I have a lot of questions about. I think if you really really want to optimize that you might go with something like 6.8 SPC in a 9 inch barrel, but if we're keeping with regular 5.56 brass and magazines, I'm torn between which caliber to keep next to my bed.

Nicely Done. Would like to add, one of the main factors in making 300Blk so effective with shorter barrels and less gassy than 5.56 and x39 is due to the limited case capacity all 300 Blk loadings are using a much faster burning powder. Some of the best loads use magnum type pistol powders and you are achieving 100% burn in 10 inches or less. PLEASE do not confuse 100% burn with optimal barrel length as the gasses are still expanding and providing increased velocity.

There are many recipes to make a 300 blackOut and you just shoot out of an AR10, the cartridge just looks different. The advantage is when you want to shoot the more powerful 308, you can. Did you ever build it? If so, what size barrel did you end up choosing? I'm trying to put on together now. I've got everything except the upper. I can't decide if I want a 7.5, 8.5 or 10.5.... I'd like a smaller options for shoving in backpack or car. But I don't want to sacrifice ballistics.. although according to this vid, there isnt a huge diff between 7.5 and 10.5...

Finally someone who tells it like it is. I got more answers to my questions in this 27 minute video than 27 hours of watching TH-cam videos on the subject. I am a 300 BO fan and have 2 uppers for my one lower. I am also a subscriber now. thx for the info. I reload all of my 300 BO cartridges so I get a bit more range time than the normal shooter. My "go to" cartridge uses the 115 gr. Lehigh Controlled Chaos bullet for "varmint" control. I also practice with 155 gr bullets. I have a 1:8 twist barrel that I fire lapped with David Tubbs components. I was able to get sub MOA groups with the 115 gr Lehigh bullets in the AR platform. I have been watching and implementing some of the recommendations of Grand Thumb in set up. Your video is the icing on the cake!!!!

One reason you may want a 16 inch 300 blackout is legal issues. In Florida you can have long guns loaded and openly displayed in your vehicle but pistols must either be on your person or locked in a container. If you want a truck gun in 300 blackout it would have to be locked in a container if the barrel is less than 16 inches.
Also, with the pistol brace rule from the ATF all of your 300 Blackout pistols are now illegal or you have to ditch your brace or have to be registered with the ATF.

I have a Wilson Combat 18" Barreled upper its accurate and I've taken a few hogs with it. I have found that once you get up past 150 Gr bullet weight the projectile drops significantly and you need at least a 30mm scope if your shooting at longer ranges or you'll run out of elevation adjustments. I like to stay around 110 to 125 gr bullet weight that seems to be the most optimum bullet weight for hunting.

Talk about a guy who really knows his stuff... excellent video. I own a BCM 9” 300 BLK I use Gorilla’s 110 grain Varmageddon and Hornady’s Black 110 V-Max for self defense, home defense and most other situation along those lines. Subsonic end, Gorillas Silverback 205 grain and Hornady 190 grain Sub-X. Practice ammo is Sellier & Bellot 124 grain FMJ and 200 grain FMJ. Using an AAC 762-SDN-6 suppressor I can say I’ve ever had an issue running any of the ammo mentioned above. Also just in case from my experience mentioned above, the BCM 9” that I own came from Bravo as a 1:7 twist and buffer which I believe is an H1 buffer weight for anyone concerned about not stabilizing and or feeding issues. No issues at all suppressed or unsuppressed. Thank you so much for all your videos and work that you put. We greatly appreciate you my dude!

The recce? I have a BCM recce 9. I totally agree with your comment. I watched some videos today going over buffer weights. They seemed to think if you shoot suppressed the buffer should be an H2 at least. But I haven't had any problems with the H1. I thought about putting in an H2 because they say it'll help some recoil (not that it's an issue) but nothing to do with the cycling using a suppressor. The only issue I've had at all with the gun is because I bought 1k rounds from a guy who loads. Somehow on a few of them after the primer is fired it comes out of the round then gets stuck between the bcg and the lower jamming it up. Other than those shitty rounds it's pretty solid

From what I understand about this caliber and why people buy shorter barrels is because they generally use a can. I have no intention to buy a suppressor. Next, compare it to 6.8 SPC and 7.62x39; the 300 Blackout will show it's true colors. Good for short barrels and good for suppressor use, but when you start using longer barrels, there are better cartridges.

@Nick 718 While 300 Blackout wasn't intended for longer barrels, it, like all other calibers, do benefit from longer barrels. 6.8 SPC was also designed for CQB, and it achieves that and then some; the ballistics are better than 5.56, 300 Blackout, and 7.62x39. And while we're talking about it, no, 300 Blackout does not out perform 7.62x39; when comparing similar grains, 7.62x39 has more energy than 300 Blackout or 5.56 62 gr green tip at 300 yards.

I can make single round reliable game kills up to around 250 yards or so under 'field' conditions (no bench rests lol.) With a good rest of some kind, bout a 100 to 200 more depending on other std enviro concerns...wind, temp, altitude, lighting etc. With a good bench, and the time to dial in a good scope, I can punch paper out a fir distance more than that.

Picked up my 300 BLK pistol from my FFL today. Thank you for the info needed to go down this road. I have some 110gr Noveske with the Nosler Varmageddon bullet to start and the 150gr Fiocchi for the range. I'll now spend a lifetime testing 300 BLK rounds for fun.

The Winchester 300 blk Deer Season XP 150gr round is awesome! Expands perfectly and very accurate in several 300BO I’ve shot it through... 👍🏻

What yardage are you shooting out to? From my understanding, it's only really effective to 300 yards or less.

Adam Huffman 300 yards is really about the limit of any intermediate rifle caliber like 5.56, .300 blk, or 7.62x39 anyway. Honestly, I prefer to cap them all as 200 yard cartridges for an ethical behind the front shoulder kill on a small to medium size adult whitetail deer. Considering the wooded areas I hunt, that’s usually plenty of range. At 300 yards and beyond, I’d rather step up to a true rifle caliber like .308, .30-06, .270, etc. Now, it’s certainly true that deer can be put down with lesser calibers like .17HMR, .22WMR, or even .22LR. You’re talking about critical shot placement into the brain in order to keep a deer from running forever before dieing at that point though. I’m not talking about what can be done especially if it’s taking game for survival. I’m talking about making a clean ethical kill in a non-critical hunting environment.

Im using a 300blk for deer season this year. I also chose winchester 150gr deer season xp. I'm use to a 30-06 with 180gr corelokt so I'm just wondering how those deer rounds worked with your 300blk?

Funny how this was made in March of 2019--which is 5 years before I'm writing this very comment--and I'm watching this literally 2 minutes after ordering a 7.5" .300 Blackout barrel with a 1:5 twist. Thankfully it looks like I made the right decision! Yes, I know you can get better terminal ballistics with longer barrels, but it just seems like the best velocity & energy per barrel length ratio. Man, .300 Blackout is such a great cartridge if for no other reason than how it does *great* with shorter barrels!

I don’t mean to take away from what this video is about. What watch is that you have on? I’m an avid watch collector/lover. Thanks in advance, and this has to be the absolute best and most informative video on 300 blk on TH-cam. Great job!

I keep a suppressed 8" 300BLK with subsonic rounds ready for home defense. And I keep a 16" unsuppressed upper for hunting with supersonic rounds for hunting. And a .22lr dedicated upper for plinking. Got rid of the .556/.223 uppers to mitigate the 300BLK rounds accidentally being loaded into a .556/.223 upper. Only need one braced lower for all of them. Takes up less space in the cabinet, lol

subsonic 300BLK, what advantage does it have over just suppressed subsonic 9mm, in say, a PCC?

    • @bullittsandbullets1821
      @bullittsandbullets1821 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@---tx9xx subsonic 147gr 9mm is 326 foot pounds
      Subsonic 220gr 300blk is 520 foot pounds
Not to mention the length and weight of the 300 bullet is better. And it’s much more reliable than a pcc

Excellent info Mike! Very informative.. I’ve been eyeballing the SR-30 in 11.5” to compliment my incoming SR-25 so I’ve got something to share that can with, trying to get as much info before throwing some cash towards the project. This video came in at the perfect time 👊🏼
