Is a V4 better than a V2? Ducati Multistrada V4 Review

  • I FINALLY test ride the all new Ducati Multistrada V4 S model. It's fast, smooth, refined, and full of amazing features and tech. In this first ride review, I share my riding impressions about the handling, the engine, performance, wind, mirrors, comfort, and overall opinion. This video does not review all the fancy techno gizmos, that would be too much to cover and there are many other videos already reviewing those amazing features.
    Thank you to www.teammcc.com for providing the demo ride.
    Hope you enjoy and give it a thumbs up, these videos are a lot of work and I apologize in advance for any annoying wind noise.

    Nice review dude. I like your production with the voice over carrying over the recorded ambient sounds of the bike & road noise. It’s good to hear what previous/current Multi owners think of this new model in comparison. I think you nailed most every point one would ask. 👍

    Best strait up review I’ve seen yet on any Multistrada. I owned a 2014 GT and it was a rabble rouser but could go touring with its trunk and bags. I toured long distances with it and went sport riding on weekends. It was an awesome sport bike and an average tourer. The 2014 and earlier versions had a 2” shorter wheelbase and no wheelie control which made it scary to grab the throttle in SPORT mode or even in touring unless you were in 4th gear. At the same time I also had a BMW R1200RT and it was good in the twists biut a great touring bike. Your correct twins make the best soul riding bikes there are period.

    I liked your review of the Multistrada V4s. Straightforward and honest, without being over the top My riding is a mix of weekend half day brisk pavement rides with a couple of 3500 mile annual journeys, half interstate, half backroads. This will be one of two or three bikes on my short list next time, which will likely also include the Harley Pan America S and maybe another GSA. Thanks for doing it.

    Realy nice bike. Looks like a true GS1250 competitor. I bought my 950 in 2019 after a test drive from MCC on the same route you took down 83. One tip for better audio in your riding videos. Get a Zoom recorder and wrap it in some foam and put it in a backpack while you ride and you will have much much better Ns cleaner exhaust sound with almost no wind messing up your audio. You can mix the audio and the GoPro video in post. Its a tip I learned about from another TH-camr. Drive safe!

    Perfect review for someone (me) who owns a Multi V2 and was thinking about going to a big touring inline bike to get smooth riding for long distance. Might be another Multi Im thinking now, the V4

    Thanks for a good review, your voice is made for calm analysis instead of many overly exuberant fools. I liked the brief comparison with competitors, I would love to hear you do a more detailed (riding) comparison with the R1250 GS and XR1000 beemers.

    Thanks for your review on the V4 and previous version of Multistrada and the comparison to the GS. As I am a 1260s rider and I would say I love my current generation so much but still consider on the V4 one cuz of its engine. I would have a look of it for a test-ride when it arrives here in Asian.

    Thank you for an owners perspective. The new bike certainly has plusses to consider. I was the owner of a 2014 MultistradaGT and loved the bike. It had some flaws but the list was few. Perhaps the worst was the service cost for a major service. The 2014 was the last year of the short wheelbase 1200 and the newer models grew 2” in wheelbase, sacrificing corner carving quickness but gaining stability and control as a trade off. The 2014 and earlier models lacked the DVT, quickshifter and cruise control, they had a quicker revving engine better midrange torque (didn’t suffer from the dip in the torque curve the DVT engines had) and were true corner cutters with a 60.4 inch wheelbase verses the 62.4” 1200-1260DVT bikes stability enhanced bikes. Is the new Multistrada a Ducati or a UJM copy bike? Is the passion still there? After all why do we love a Ducati? Passion makes a Ducati different. So I ask you, did they keep the passion or lose it in going Honda Smooth?

    Great review, I too have a 2019 1260s and I know I “should” see the V4S as an improved Multi, but I just end up thinking that Ducati have removed a bit of the soul out if this bike.. The L-Twin 1260 has so much character..not all of it good!, but it feels alive and connected. The smoothness of this V4 is no doubt a masterstroke in engineering excellence, but I’m not totally convinced that this is what Ducatisti actually want..

    • @ilmostro16

      I know… it’s a difficult review because of this. At the same time I feel the same thing regarding the “soul”, and also feel that it’s an overall better machine in every way. I think the best way to look at it is time in the saddle. Shorter rides are more “engaging”, more exciting with the rumbly twin, but I imagine doing 1000 miles on this new V4 Multi would ultimately be more enjoyable. It also needs to be said that the comparison isn’t exactly even since my 1260 has a full Akrapovic while the V4 demo bike is all stock. Put a full exhaust on the V4 Multi and it would change the equation a bit for sure.

      @@ilmostro16 That’s a fair point and maybe applies to riders (especially stateside) who have little choice but to use the highway/interstate system. I’ve done over 27,000 miles touring the UK/Scotland/Wales on my 1260s in the past 18 months and actively avoid motorways/highways when planning my trips, so most of my riding is done on cross-country twisty roads where the L-twin excels…

    Good video! After I told a Ducati dealer that I've sold my Monster, He straight up offered me a 2022 Multi V4S! He wanted to give a really sweet deal on it! Should I go for it or not! Let me know Thanks!

  • @ilmostro16
    @ilmostro16  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    One thing I forgot to mention in the video, because to me it’s always obvious, is the build quality, fit and finish of the bike….which is of course excellent as you’d expect from a $24K Ducati. Every part of the bike is beautifully made with nice materials. Also, in fairness, it needs to be said that my 1260 has a full Akrapovic exhaust system, while the demo V4 is obviously stock. Putting a full system on the Multistrada V4 will no doubt change how it feels when the full sound is released. So much of the “soul” of a bike is held back by the catalytic converter, choking the bike.

    • @Mac_okee
      @Mac_okee 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A catalytic converter is not choking the bike but allowing others to breathe cleaner air!

    So even if it’s in neutral, and the bike knows it’s in neural and the side stand is down, you still need to pull the clutch to start it? What’s that about?

    So you feel the Engine Heat no issue? My 2017 1200 Multistrada Enduro seat gets so hot its not comfortable on a warmer day. Please tell me more about the Seat/Engine heat on the V4s if there more to share? I was watching... focused on your comments on this... if any. Great Video!

    • @ilmostro16
      @ilmostro16  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      During my demo ride engine heat was not an issue, but it wasn’t a very hot day either. It was around 78F. I believe the rear two cylinders shut off while the bike is stopped and idling. So this helps a lot with heat. For the record, my 1260 doesn’t get very hot and my seat never feels terrible.
