Sizing your Ruck - Ranger School Prep

  • Nobody has a ruck hack to make 65lbs feel like nothing, but if your ruck isn't sized properly on your frame, you're gonna have a bad time.
    Additionally, I like to use the waist belt and use the load lifter straps to keep the weight off my shoulders as much as possible. If you look at packs from Kifaru or Mystery Ranch, it looks like they agree.

    Hello sir,
    Iam a ex-soldier of the german army "bundeswehr". The last 6 years, i was an infanteris. Mashine gunner with a mg3. I never understand why modern soldiers....historically it begins in vietnam war....and the baddest moment for rucksacks was the britsh falkland crisis....carry these ultra big backpacks. My biggest one had 120litre of volume....i dont understand why i must carry 3 complete uniforms and a lot of useless shit with me.
    Our grandfathers, yours and also mine, had a little pack and only the uniform they were wearing. My grandfather fought in africa, in greece, at the western front and at last in russia.....with the same uniform....and a little haversack on his back!
    I hatet it to carry this shit with me.
    Salute to you.
    Mike

    this is the most underrated ruck video on the internet! most soldiers get their gear from CFI or RFI and never adjust their equipment to fit them. they also over tighten the shoulder straps which leads to shoulder fatigue too quickly.

  • @xlRainlx

    So much useful info, thank you! I bought a Molle 2 recently to become decent at rucking prior to shipping to Basic, went on a timed 8 mile ruck and my shoulders were destroyed by the end. My legs felt fine, I was never exhausted, my shoulders were the only thing feeling bad. Turns out, I just didn't have my ruck setup right and had all the weight on my shoulders. So this has helped me figure out how to fix it. I got a 10 mile ruck planned for this next week. If I get through it without wrecking myself again, it'll be thanks to you, brother!

    I’m glad to see your actually emphasizing the proper use of the load lifter straps. I see so many people putting them near the base of the neck thinking this raises the actual ruck but instead completely destroys your neck and back muscles especially 12+ miles. Another good tip to take it one step further is to take the load lift tabs and route them over the top of the frame and back through the cutout. A lot of trial and error to figure out these molles

    • @299scouts8
      @299scouts8  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      CE20 that’s actually a good idea with routing the lifters. Gonna have to try that out as long as they don’t slip left or right.

    Brother, this is the most correct and comfortable way I’ve seen someone wear the ruck. I’ve been wearing it wrong for years it seems. When I was in back in 2005-2010, I’ve gone through multiple ways to adjust to make it feel comfortable; even today when I go out for a ruck run. I’m gonna try this tomorrow for sure.

    What’s your definition of a “quick” 6 mile ruck

    • @299scouts8
      @299scouts8  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your goal should be doing a 15 minute mile.
      Going out for an hour and a half or less is about all the time I have on a typical weekday.
      I divide my practice between speed rucking for as much time as I have available and rucking for long hikes without a time limit on weekends.

    • @299scouts8

      1) Loosen the lifter straps first
      2) Sit back so your ruck is high on your back.
      3) Attach the waist belt first. It'll sit above your hips.
      4) Tighten your shoulder straps
      5) The top of the frame should be above your shoulder
      6) Tighten the lifter straps until ruck doesn't bounce or flop
      7) Chest Strap
