Just did a 5 miler/40# yesterday, one tip for civ or people rucking recreationally and not timed is to keep a hammock in your ruck it’s lightweight doesn’t take much room and quick setup. Let’s you get your feet up off the ground on a break or at your destination it’s peak relaxation 👌🏽

Very cool. Longtime backpacker here. I typically ruck with my full kit as it's dialed in to around 38lb with 5 days food & water. Great tip on the towels. I keep a bandana in my pocket and Shemagh in the ruck as my towels.

As a backpacker, really good gouge on using bulk to fill up a pack. SO MANY PACKS DO NOT CARRY WEIGHT WELL WHEN NOT FILLED OUT. While some packs really can cinch down almost any load, most of them really need to be filled out with stuff to distribute weight properly so that you're not fighting with the pack the whole time you're wearing it.
    Excellent vid.

Gritty, thank you for all the great tip. As an old Marines that has not rucked much in the last 20 years. I found it every help full. I just started adding rucking into my workout in the last year and forgot what a butt kicker they can be. I stated teaching my 12yo son land nav last fall. I think we will add rucks to it this spring.

I bought one of those rucking plates, used it one. The problem is that you cannot allocate the weight to the top of the ruck. I still use it to exercise, but I think that using everyday gear to add weight is more helpful (and realistic). Especially when I go out in the winter when the temperature is below zero I fill my pack with gear that might be helpful in case the weather turns. Thank you for your video.

Yeah that's a big problem if the weight is not center shoulder blades area after a km gravity drags you down if you have a European style ruck I put a bucket In mine so when I placed the weight it sits higher, I also found that if I did not do this, a weight might sit properly at the start but after 5 miles it can sink, the lightest I do for rucking is 65 pounds and the heaviest I done is 110pounds, a goruck bag is designed to hold a plate

Another reason to have your sleeping bag loose and not in the issues stuff sack is the insulation doesn’t get crushed and prematurely degraded. It makes your sleeping bag function better than if your made it super compact in the stuff sack. It’s a world of difference if your always cold when you sleep in the field try it out. And make sure you put your sleep system together correctly.

Just started at 53 YO in rucking. I am about 2 weeks in and using known paths. I ruck about 2 mi per day but will upgrade soon. I am using the molle2 large ruck and also have the ILBE that I have not used yet. I dialed in about 20 lbs so far dry weight. Then I add water usually 1 liter so not much. I will add more weight in a 2 weeks. So far each walk is easier. I have been averaging about 2.5 miles no ruck during my work hours my average time rucking is about 18 min / mi. I will continue until my miles and minutes drop and weight increases. So far all of your advice is working well. I intend to use what I am learning to keep on keeping on. Thank you

I'm a huge hunter and backpacker. I absolutely hate how the water bladders fit inside on the back of the pack, like you said, when you have to refill it or whatever, you have to tear down the whole pack, your idea of placing it on top ans cinching it down with the hood. Was geniuses. I'm going to start to try that and see how it plays out.

Your videos about rucking sure help a lot. My ruck looks better with your help with sorting everything efficiently

I actually always thought I’d make a good DS, won’t be doing that anytime soon now. But hey, at least there is TH-cam! 👊

Much like a proper issued haircut, this thing is high and tight. I'm digging this rucksack. Once again, excellent advice.

I'm not in the military or anything but really wanted to try out rucking since I saw the other video of yours. Just to have another thing to challange myself and build my overall fitness and efficiency.
