  • With the 100 Days of Dev providing daily written updates now, it has become quite difficult to author a weekly dev diary without simply repeating all the things I've already written in the week prior ( All available on our Discord: discord.starshi... or on our FB page: / starshipgame ).
    So, with much urging from Claire I'm going to have a go at turning the weekly updates into a video instead
    This week we take a look at the updated Bridge functionality working smoothly in multiplayer

    8:00 Interstellar vibes right there

    Really cool! Do you wonder if, while surveying a system, the pilot would "sunset" and "sunrise" the pitch of the ship, for the subconscious benefit of the crew?

    Marvelous! I'm so happy to hear the attention to realism in the use of actual star maps.
    I know this is early, but I hope that eventually the Orrery display can have a nice whooshing transition in or out when changing zoom levels. The stars just winking out doesn't visually communicate the change well enough.
    Every video you release makes me so excited for this game. :D

      Definitely something I'd like to see as well. Over time we'll continue to do detail passes on the various systems to add more style and polish :)

    6EQUJ5!!! That holographic display is amazing!!! I imagine that's how navigation displays will really work in real starships in the far future!
    But what kind of supercomputer will I need to play this game?
    And why doesn't Claire have a head?!?!

    you may have to be able to filter the sensors, for object size or mass... every solar system would have billions of rocks zipping around!

    Question: Will you support VR? Would be cool if I could put on my Index, and actually press buttons with my fingers and such. That 3D display would probably look really good in VR.
    I have an Index and three Vive trackers, if you need someone to test VR in the future.

    WEEKLY updates, now sounds more like it. The only real issue I have so far and this game isn't unique. The constant moving of a character gives me a headache. Not your problem, mine.

    • @minerskills
      @minerskills 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean the head movement? We already have a mode for that which turns it off. Dan just isn’t using it :D

    • @mikethompson2650
      @mikethompson2650 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@minerskills The problem is with me and my eyes. I am closing on 70 and the movement back and forth or constant moving from side to size of the video makes it hard for me to focus and that leads to a headache. This doesn't seem to happen when I am gaming ONLY when I watch videos of others gaming. Like I said, not really a game problem but a physical problem most likely due to my age, although I have to admit that back in the day when I played Doom or Duke Nukem the movement caused headaches and a vertigo issue. Over time I got used to it and adapted. Please don't loose sleep and continue development work. This is on my wishlist, you have a sale here.

      @@mikethompson2650 I kind of understand where you're coming from. I don't get the vertigo, myself, but, I really dislike demos where the person doing the demo constantly moves around while talking. Jumps around, walks around, looks around, doesn't stay still, etc, while the presenter is just talking/mumbling/complaining/etc.... This video isn't at that point, nor anywhere near it, but games with Minecraft type head-bobbing and just watching the video where the presenter is just randomly looking around... The video becomes background noise pretty quickly. If I'm in control of the view, then, it's no biggie, I'm right in to it (without the head moving while walking around). But I do know people who just can't play 1st person games at all because they get queasy.

    I have an important (to me) question: will we be able to name our own ships?

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, there will be a number of customisation options for the ship, including things like UI interface colours, carpet colour, wall colour, lighting colour, etc. All the cosmetic stuff that a new captain might want to change for their command.
