Nice video JP, subbed for more. Really interested in following suit and switching up to the FX6 from mirrorless - not only to make my workflows much more streamlined with the audio inputs and variable ND, but also for the optics - no matter how great the shots can look, pulling out a mirrorless in front of a high paying client feels terrible sometimes.
Thanks man... Ain’t that the truth! Clients have been visibly impressed and even more deferential, it’s great! Little do they know that half the time I feel like I have no idea what I’m doing 😅
Niiiiiice! Congrats. It took about a month from ordering to delivery for mine in the UK, I imagine it might be a bit quicker now most people have had their pre-orders now though.
I’m still on the a7iii and it’s not quite cutting it for me at this point, so thanks for the video as you’ve also shown interesting shots and not just a car park in Miami or something
Hi JP. Thanks for the video. Can I ask you if you can share the noise that the ND filter activation does? When the motor drags the filter in front of the sensor. I have an FX6 and it sound pretty loud to me, I’m quite worried I could have a non perfect version of the camera. Thank you in advance.
hey man, greetings from Devon ✌🏼 I should be getting my fx6 today. can I ask if the bp-u60 battery sticks out the back much? As in could you still put on a gimbal. (ronin s)
Congrats! It sticks out a little, but “just the right amount”. It’s hard to qualify that exactly, but a larger battery would be a little obtrusive, and a battery that sits flush with the chassis would actually feel a bit short (I’m clearly just used to the ‘60 😂). I’ve just received an extension plate for the gimbal (I’ve got an RSC2) which I’m going to try out today... as it’s the smaller of the two new DJI gimbals I’m not sure if it’s going to be a success or not. If not I supposed I’ll sell the gimbal and buy the larger one. If the 60 fouls the arm, the camera comes with a smaller battery (a 30 perhaps) that could be used for a gimbal workflow, potentially.
It sure can. For shooting people, it's SO good at identifying a load of faces in frame, you just choose which one you want it to follow focus on. I do DEFINITELY miss the touch tracking though, and have no idea if it will ever likely be added with a firmware update or not. I shot a puppy on a beach today and took the A7SIII instead of the FX6 simply because of its touch tracking.
@@westernapproaches hey jp thanks for the reply, When you find yourself not getting the focus you want and needing touch tracking, whats your work around for this Also, is not having ibis a deal breaker?
@@TimandLauren Sometimes I'll pull focus manually using peaking on the monitor or on an external monitor - if. conditions are less than ideal I might stop down the lens to give me a bit more latitude in terms of my focal plane. There IS a spot focus option with a small, touch or joystick movable box that I've used for just that, spot focus, I'm not sure if it continually focuses on the spot or if it's more like single-shot spot AF... I'll have to test and report back. Lack of IBIS isn't a deal breaker, but it sure. would be nice to have. In the balance of things though, that Auto ND is of greater value to me for my kind of work. Sony have said that it's not possible to have the ND and IBIS, but I bet the successor to the FX6 has both. That's likely years away though. I haven't tried the FX6 on my gimbal yet either. I have the DJI RSC2... not sure if anybody's tried it on the smaller of the two newish DJI gimbals, but it might compensate for the lack of IBIS to an extent.
@@westernapproaches gotcha, so manually focusing is ideal for example, your wanting to film a brides face in a crowd, theres people in the foreground as well and the focus is going to them instead of the bride. This is when you go manual? And for auto nd over ibis i agree!
@@TimandLauren The FX6 will identify a crowd full of people's faces (probably), but then you can store or lock to the brides face only, and it will ignore the other faces until you release the brides face.

Man, it's like you've got all the charisma in the world. Earned an instant sub from me!
Hilarious 😂 👏👏 Great realistic review!
Rich bastard. Lol. Best of both worlds. A7siii and fx6. Living the dream
Trying to decide between the FX6 and FX3 as an upgrade to my A7RIII for video production. Which one would you choose? Price is not an issue.
Cheers for this! Thanks so much for sharing your experiences!
No problemmo 😊
Ordered my fx6. Can’t wait to get it in!

I sold my A7III to buy the A7SIII... I’m very intrigued to see what the A7IV will be like.

It make a noise when it goes from ND filter OFF, to ON or AUTO, but once it's ON, when operating in auto or manual mode, operation should be silent.
Might be time to check out the FX6 for a shoot or 2. Thanks for the thoughts on it.

Did you film this in the Intra codec?
I did. Pretty much stick to it, in fact. I’m recording onto a CFExpress card and a V90 SD card, no issues on either.
How is the AF with the 50 1.8?
Slow & steady!
Time to trade in the GoPro? Wonder how it would fare strapped to my helmet
Get them neck muscles biiiiig
hey jp, if you were to shoot a wedding, can the sony fx6 get the job done? since it doesnt have touch tracking is it that big of an issue?
