Serial 1 Powered by Harley-Davidson│H-D's Electric Bicycle Test Ride

  • Harley-Davidson has partnered with Serial 1 and created a cruiser style
e-bicycle that is pedal assist. The fit and finish is what you'd expect from a Harley-Davidson product, everything down to the belt drive. Coming in two variations the Mosh/CTY and Rush/CTY they offer different features and price points. If you're in love with your H-D motorcycle and ride cruiser bicycles down to the local beach or park then the serial 1 is probably something you need in your garage. Matt takes to the streets with some of the guys from Laidlaw's H-D to In-N-Out for some grub while putting the bikes through the paces.

Hey Guys, Something I wanted to mention that I neglected to put in the video. Dealers are NOT STOCKING these bikes. The bikes we have are for demo purposes only. You can come in and check them out (at participating dealers) and if you like them we can help you place an order or you can place an order online on your own. Then you have the choice to have the bike shipped to your home or to the dealership. The benefit of shipping to the dealer is we will assemble the bike for you (I believe there is a charge for this during online checkout). If you have it shipped to your home it comes in a big box and you will assemble it on your own.

Great vid Matt, actually changed my opinion on these bikes. Their not in my budget price range, nor am I looking for an E-assist bike. If I was I would consider them. And to all the people bitching in the comments on the cost..... It is evident that they have no clue about the average cost of E-bike and or E-assist bikes.
I was gob-smacked at the price of these types of bikes when I was at a dealership recently with my uncle who was looking for an E-bike. Low end started at $1500 and went up to close to $10K for the top end range with all the bells and whistles. Yes you can buy a motorcycle for these prices, but as they say, different horses for courses, different strokes for different folks.

Finally a detailed Serial 1 electric bike review. I thought TH-cam e-bicycle channels would be tripping over themselves to review these bicycles. Sounds like the tires are underinflated in parts of this video. You can easily add a suspension seat post to anyone of these bicycles. Why isn't HD having dealerships service and repair these bicycles? What if you need support, parts, etc?

    • @MattLaidlaw

I have 3 new Giant E bicycles .A road bike, a mountain bike and The one that is comparable to these bikes . It is called the Fastroad e .And when you compare the components of what Harley is offering to what other premium e bikes sale for it’s very much inline with that Particular segment of the market. These are priced in about the middle of what most of the name brand e bikes sell for with Giant probably being on the low part of the price range in this style of e bike at around 3,100 - 4,000 and Trek or specialized being on the high end at around 5000* - 6000*.(* i’m basing this on my memory of when I was comparing e bikes before I purchased the Giant ebikes so the current prices might be different ) If I didn’t already have a new e bike I would definitely take a serious look at the Rush city speed model.

I stopped by the dealer yesterday while on my visit to So Cal. I checked out the “Serial 1” bikes. Any full time RV’er should have these on hand.

I think it's a great idea personally. It will help light a love for harley davidson in a new generation. That's what harley is missing right now with the current young generation. The baby boomers failed to pass down their love for the brand and why they prefer the brand onto their kids.

Absolutely. I can see these bikes being a real hit with all sorts of people that might otherwise look beyond the Harley Davidson brand.

For people saying $3500 USD is too much money for a bike - walk in any bicycle shop and check the prices on a name brand, medium to high-end, non-electric bike. You will pay at least $2000. For another $1500 you get a high tech motor and zero maintenance.

looks like HD did a good job on these , no idea how the price compares with similar models from other manufacturers which will be the big thing in selling them . trying to get new people interested in buying Harleys won't work out if the price is silly .

It would be nice, must have actually for a such price, if the rear red light could also be used as a direction of turn indicator. And with the controller like on/off on the both, left and right, handlebars of the bike.
White tires was also better on promo video about this model. And lil bit old shool-vintage look were also nardly needed, i think. It should be clear from first sight, what kind of bike does it come here, right now i need to come and read a name of manufacturer and model, that s not right for HD bike, i think.
There are millions of all kinds of electric bicycles in the world, and their prices start from 500-1000 dollars, there is no upper price limit at all. The only reason to buy a bike from Harley is its unique style and recognition, at the moment the style of the bike is cute, modern, but indistinguishable from thousands of other similar and standard models from other manufacturers.
Harley's bike should be unique and recognizable, and not the same as hundreds of the same in any bike shop or website. All the charm of Harley is in the old vintage style of the golden times of American technical design 1940-1960. Without such a kind of "look", design, a Harley bike is meaningless, unnecessary and not interesting. IMHO
P.S: Only thing i ready to buy right now without payment in installments - are these nice Harley Davidson socks, if i ll find it in black, white or red edition ))))))))))

Only one I liked was the one that looked like the Harley serial one.

Wow! Really? A sucker is born daily and I’m no exception. But at those prices, I have an endless amount of options. Far less equal too and obviously mouth more. I can’t imagine no one buying this no suspension comfort. Needs to be plugged in, up to 5 hours of that. Wow! Why Matt? I hope these items came on consignment. I’ll drive my Yamaha Zuma 125 on a daily for around town or even distance for a casual trip and I own a fleet of Harleys.

These might be cool if they were priced competitively to the *other* chinese e-bikes exactly like it.

If you are selling e-bikes, you should have some basic knowledge about classifications and what they mean for the customer. That’s more relevant than your local In&Out burger

    Too quiet for a Harley.

What's the warranty on these bikes? Most of us could would work on a regular bike or even a ebike but with all this new technology it means back to the dealership, and you know how these stealership try to drain your wallet on something simple..
