  • The Serial 1 RUSH/CTY Speed is a dynamic Class 3 electric bike available in two color schemes and four frame sizes. Feature complete with wide plastic fenders, minimalist racks for pannier bags, and bright integrated lights. The headlight is sturdy, and well positioned. The proprietary rear lights are visible from multiple angles, and go bright based on accelerometer feedback when stopping! High volume Schwalbe tires provide improved stability, vibration dampening, and overall comfort with a lower attack angle. They offer puncture protection, and reflective sidewalls for improved durability and safety. Wide Boost hub spacing provides sturdy spoke bracing angle, and thick axles improve overall toughness and stiffness. Sapim spokes, Praxis crank arms. Excellent kickstand is adjustable without tools. Comfortable saddle has an integrated handle at the rear for easy lifting. Locking ergonomic grips look and feel great. Wires and cables are especially well hidden through the handlebar, stem, and frame. Speed sensor and magnet are hidden and protected at rear wheel. Locking Glovebox storage compartment on downtube is handy. Unique SIM chip integration aids with security and supports GPS with Google maps integration. Lower 10kg 22lb weight capacity on front and rear racks may limit use, not compatible with child seat. Chunky bottom bracket design keeps weight low but isn't as aesthetically pleasing. Charging port and locking cylinder positioned very low on the left side, in the path of the crank arm. Enviolo hub increases weight and price, optional app required to adjust target RPM. After two years, a subscription is required to continue SIM chip use for tracking and security.

    I now have over 600 miles on mine. The range wasn’t talked about for a full battery. On flat ground and riding conservatively, around 100 miles. If riding thru the different ride modes and on hills, the range is significantly less. This bike can be reasonably ridden for very long treks, depending on how you choose to ride it. You definitely get what you expect for the cost. Test ride one and fall in love in 15 minutes!

    I rode one last week. The Automatiq transmission was wonderful, so zen to just pedal and not think about gears at all.

      Sure! I covered a few in one go and have just been mixing them in. Next review is a cool Trek road bike with super light TQ mid-motor and then maybe a Stromer and Marin :D

    A 20lb rack on a $5k commuter bike is a dealbreaker for me. I was about to order one direct when I learned that.

    Question for you Court. You tested this via Reckless in North Van: does this mean they are selling the Class 3 version in BC? My Dad and I were talking about Serial 1 and we both think Full Suspension (a la R&M, Moustache and Bulls) would be a great future option.

    I also wanted to add an additional comment on which geared hub was better, the Shimano Nexus or the Enviolo which are both offered on the Priority Current e bike.

    I’ve seen a number of EBR videos. Generally soft on manufacturers, seldom critical. I appreciate the attention to the equipment but there’s a lack of information on performance that makes a difference to help me understand what I’m looking at. Especially given all the experience that EBR has with comaparable bikes. For example: nothing on torque/watts and maintaining a particular speed for extended time given the battery. I don’t recall ever seeing a test of, perhaps, a standard hill (incline and distance) to understand what kind of effort their rider would put in compared to other bikes. The Serial 1 is a nice looking clean bike with powerful brakes, no gear shifting and apparently a quieter eBike. I like looking at it. I think there’s a way to critique a bike to give some idea how it compares to a similar Bulls or Riese and Muller, as examples, but I think they opt out. Just a long commercial. Weak.

      If it had a 500 nominal watt motor I think I'm still looking at that price tag and shaking my head. 🤔

    How much torque does an ebike need to offset its own extra weight (vs an acoustic bike) ?

  • @woahasmurf7878

    do these bikes have an "unlock" feature so you can reach speeds higher than 28+ mph?

  • @s.m.5386

    This bike is currently £2,000 in the UK which is a steal given the trek equivalent ebike is nearly £5,000.

    Phew....here we go again. It has a Premium Feature set and while a Fat Tire meets my needs better (I live beachside in FL), I could see myself taking this on a long, scenic road excursion.....I just don't think it provides a realistic value for the average rider. It does however, bring (currently) expensive features to the broader market.....I just can't "shop" there :-)

  • @clayhull4239

    Are you familiar with the Priority e bike? Priority has the Current which uses either the Shimano or Enviolo geared hub with the Gates carbon belt drive. But both geared systems, Shimano and Enviolo have a gear shifter, so I guess you still control changing your gears. Where some of these bikes like Envelo and Serial 1 the gearing is totally automatic. You find it better to have a dedicated shifter to manage your cadence or nicer not to worry and shifting because it’s done for you. What do you think? Thanks again!

    • @ElectricBikeReview

      Yeah, I agree with you... a suspension fork or a suspension stem and seat post are great to have at higher speeds!

    • @MHH3180
      @MHH3180 ปีที่แล้ว

      ALL suspension forks are designed for off road control, not on-road comfort. If soft enough to absorb road irregularities, they dip dangerously. Geometry is key to comfort. Frankly, this one doesn't look relaxed enough for me, but its purpose is quick handling in traffic, something suspensions or relaxed geometry don't do well.

  • @davidj.jorgensen4828
    @davidj.jorgensen4828 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice aesthetics but, poor execution on things like seat post ,racks, stupid low handle bar that requires bent over lean forward riding position. Just look at your own video of the person riding it. Especially for what will cost close to $6K after taxes😳

    • @MHH3180
      @MHH3180 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The flat bar is more efficient and provides quicker steering in urban traffic. No bar position is uncomfortable if the geometry is correct. Ot will allow you to bend at the waist vs through your back. You should though have a reasonably strong core to support it. Otherwise, yes, we agree and I live where I just don't care about darting about traffic so a morebupright Dutch style geometry works well for me.

      I always tell my customers to take $1800 off the list price (that's being very generous). If the remaining bike is not something for which you would pay the difference, it is not a good e-bike.
