    Boost spacing does NOT help strengthen wheels. It can only help if you have matching spoke offset in your rims. This makes truing them and keeping them true a little harder. It also makes them ride a touch rougher. This can be, but seldom is, done with any rim or hub. I would have to see their rim up close to see if there is any advantage, but they sound more like traditional 650b mtb wheels.
    Would rather see that glove box used for a larger battery, perhaps one that is not proprietary. 60#'s on a $5k bike!?! Did they use straight gauge aluminum? 560wh's is nothing on such a heavy bike. 750 isn't really up to contemporary standards.
    I have never had a problem with plastic fenders, but that does seem kind of cheap for a $5k bike. Hopefully people will realize that those brake lights aren't DOT approved or positioned. You still need to hand signal or you could be held responsible in a rear collision.
    It is nice to see they aren't trying to use off road suspension for on road comfort. That should help make handling all that extra weight a lot easier. It's nice to see a real headlight for once and that app is pretty awesome. I wonder though how long it will be til such things are available from everyone. Your only real expense is in development. I know I can do almost all those things on Bafang motors now.

    Looks solid. Definitely pricey, but looks well built. Riding High H-D in G'boro NC has these, but I have not tested one "yet". I would love to see the Rush City and the new DOST w/ belt as a side-by-side comparison.

    I have the Rush Cty Speed purchased in 2021 and it has 3000 miles on it. It is a great bike for hop-on recreational rides of 40 miles or less with family or friends. It is also the bike I road trip with my wife and her Blix Aveny. I have another bike that is my go to exercise rides 50+ miles that includes paved and unpaved trails/roads.
    My only complaint is the Ride App that was promised when I bought it in 2021 is not compatible with pre-2022 models. The bikes are otherwise identical so I can vouch for the quiet and excellent drive train/motor and overall build quality of the Serial 1 bikes. They are miles ahead of the mass produced cheap component bikes being cranked out of China. It is the best truly automatic shifting bike I have ridden most ebikes at and above the Serial 1 price point. It's a good example of in the long run, you get what you pay for.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the real life review, Robert! I'm glad to hear that you're happy with the product, and agree that the build quality and finish are excellent. This thing combines cutting edge motor, drivetrain, and build quality. I like how they integrated the wires and used name brand parts and brakes. Good stuff and justified for the price.

    There's always problems! As well thought out as this bicycle is, they didn't put frame attachment points for adding accessories. It's the same story with the new Serial 1 Switch Mountain model. But hey, the Switch Mountain is sold out, so maybe consumers don't care. If they're going to charge $5k for a bicycle it better cover all the bases important to the buyer. 10kg capacity for the front and rear racks is equal to 22 pounds if anyone was wondering. I always exceed the rack capacity on my motorcycle and it's never broken, so you can probably do the same with these racks. It's kinda odd to see plastic fenders on a Harley vehicle, but I guess weight is a bigger factor on a bicycle.

    I would probably go with the Gazelle C380. A little less money, but it has a lot of the features that are missing on this bike. This one looks like it may be a "itch" to work on with all the "stuff" hidden in the frame.

    Definitely a premium built bike and not a bad deal at $5K which having the "Harley Davidson" label on the bike probably contributes to the price.
    The question for potential buyers of this bike is whether or not they need to buy a "Lexus" when a "Toyota" will provide the necessary functionality and reliability at a much lower price.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great point, there are a lot of "check the box" ebikes out there, but this one has the automatic shifting and sizes, that alone really increases the cost... but also improves the ride experience. For a retired person, or someone who is replacing a car, that could definitely be worth it.

      @ElectricBikeReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lots of companies going with the higher price points, I suspect their input costs and all of the logistics have gotten very expensive in recent years. Still, it's a high quality build with great size and color options. Hardly anyone else has the same app features they do with the SIM card and Google integration.

  • @ilovephotography1254
    @ilovephotography1254 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    On one hand, this bike appears to try to integrate some interesting features. Thumbs up for the antitheft app, a great feature. I like the tail lights. The headlight appears to have a cutoff lens that would prevent light spill so, not blind on coming traffic. Court, maybe you can inquire if that is so? The motor and drivetrain another nice feature. On the other hand, as Court had pointed out the racks were some what half baked as far as capability. Bottle cage braze ons would be nice. Front shocks would also be desirable.
    Serial 1 does kind of reminds me of a Riese and Muller. That being said R&M makes bikes that appears to be better engineered and more heavy duty all around. Serial 1 would be wise to take cues from R&M.
    My own rant for all urban e-bike makers...
    ...I like to see in the near future urban e-bikes that are equipped with everything. I would like to see blinkers and bikes that put out a lot of light that don't blind anyone. Bikes need to be equipped with antitheft software. I want the ability to carry home groceries. If motorcycles and even scooters are made to include those features, why shouldn't urban e-bikes?

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very well said, excellent observations. Yeah, I was told that the weight rating is 275lbs, and some of the Riese & Müller models can support 350lbs. Maybe Serial 1 was just being conservative?
      I understand why some companies skip the suspension fork for a cruiser, but this could be a commuter, and their RUSH/CTY Speed also lacks suspension, which can really be useful at high speed. And you're correct, I do think that the headlight has a top cutoff to not blind traffic, good catch.
      I feel that some of the best innovation is taking place with the smaller companies who aren't venture funded, who can take bigger risks and blend moped/bicycle performance. The issue is, they often go above the legal power and speed limits... because that's what helps differentiate them and what many customers want. I think the big European brands have been importing products that work globally, to help achieve economies of scale, and they might also be working with legislators and lobbyists to try to make North America more like Europe with the Class 1, 2, 3 system. I don't love politics.

      The answer is simply that such things would drive up the cost beyond the means of the common man. More reasonable would be modern framematerials, color displays and reasonable margins. It drives me nuts that I routinely build better bikes in my tiny shop, for far less than half the price (my margins are huge).

      @@ilovephotography1254 I don't all the time. Take a FAR better groupset on an $1800 Felt gravel bike with a carbon fork. Add a 7.5# torque sensing mid-drive with slightly more torque and a 20ah battery. You are well under 40#'s have a better ride and handling for $3k, but you can go WAY down the product line, stay under 45 and still out perform it in every way. It would not have the app without some serious reprogramming I do not offer, but thst is available. It could have the lights, but I push more capable rechargeable. An 850c color display has all the features of The Brose. This isn't something special I do. Anyone with the proper tools and a 7th grade shop class education can do it. DOT approval amd required IGH's, tuen signals etc aren't even required on a motorcycle, only hand signals. Once required, that sort of testing amd standardization gets expensive. It also temd to lead to things like special lisc and insurance requirements.

    • @ilovephotography1254
      @ilovephotography1254 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MHH3180 I do a lot of urban night bike riding on my class3 bike. I understand the safe and practical applications of blinkers.
      There are plenty of bike head and tail lights that come stock on bikes that are not DOT approved. There are plenty of after market bike lights that you can buy and put on your bike that is not DOT approved. No one from the DOT is making noise about what you are suggesting...
      ...So what's your point? Should urban bikes riders not ride in as safe manner at night, because of DOT regulations?
      You mentioned motorcycle regulations. I've owned 2 motorcycles and they both had blinkers. I for one would not purchase a motorcycle without blinkers. I care too much about my safety.
      BTW Hand Signals at daytime doesn't work so well because a lot of people don't notice or don't understand. At night time, you're basically invisible when signaling.

    This is a “Harley Davidson” branded Ebike that ... doesn’t have a throttle , higher wattage or a above average top speed ???
    This is a compny that builds very high power humongous engine motorcycles. Who are they marketing too or are they just being “safe” ?

It's a great ebike on its own, like if Serial 1 was some random new company... but in that sense, the Harley connection is almost a negative or confusing. Maybe it's just the benefit of dealerships you can visit? I wonder what the service for bicycles is like at a Harley Davidson dealership? It's an interesting blend of companies and product here. I like the finish of the Serial 1, but appreciate the throttle from EVELO. The battery capacity on the RUSH/CTY Step-Thru is lower, but I still think it's enough for casual rides. It's cool that they sell the upgraded 706wh pack as an option... though it costs > $1k from what I've heard. The assist levels seemed comparable to me. Comparing Dapu to Brose, I'd choose Brose, but then you don't get the throttle. I guess they are both pretty good. It's difficult to price things these days. For the automatic drivetrain, Brose motor, and all of the accessories and sizes and colors they offer, I think the price is reasonable :)

    Cool bikes but the prices are ridiculous

      No, they're competitive compared to bikes with similar components. Can buy some Rad thingy for 2K.

      These parts and this level of finish tend to cost about this much, especially with different colors and size options. Kind of crazy, but a lot of things have become expensive in recent years.

    I hope they prove to be more dependable than Harley-Davidson motorcycles the price is outrageous just like Harley motorcycles.

      They should be very reliable, the underlying components are all sound from what I've observed with other companies using the same things. Brose motor with stock configuration, Brose display, Enviolo CVT, TRP brakes, quality fork and rims and bars. Their support team has been very responsive to my questions... and they are operating independently from Harley, HQ is in Utah.

    How would you compare the CVT of the Rush/Cty against the single speed Mosh/Cty for city and bike trail riding? Which one is better since they both are class 1?
